Carla and the elf, Elan, become fast friends but what Elan hasn't told her yet begins to turn her world upside-down. He has lost his Focus Stone, so his magic is not focused - at all!

Before Carla can get to her oatmeal she has turned into a dragon, then her mother into an apple tree.

Dragon for a day follows the story of Carla and Elan. Elan is a magical elf who isn't very good at magic. It doesn't take long for him to wreck havoc in Carla's life. He even accidentally turns Carla into a dragon. Carla must depend on her friends to help reverse the magic. This book has a very fantastical feel to it and is one kids are sure to love. I can just imagine reading this to a child and hearing them laugh throughout the story.

A really fun, adorable fantasy story for children. Addresses some very serious social issues in an accessible manner for those intended.

Early Primary School Fantasy

This simple fantasy book could either be read by an early reader on his or her own or read to them by a parent or caregiver. For such an early reader fantasy book, it is surprisingly well done. The protagonist thinks she is going to have a normal day, but she finds an elf in her slipper. He has lost his focus stone, so his magic is going awry. Accidentally, he turns the little girl into a dragon and her mother into an apple tree. So the dragon girl goes to school, though she must help the elf find his focus stone so that she and her mother can be returned to their true selves. There aren't a lot of illustrations in this book. It is clearly meant for early primary school readers who don't need the high number of illustrations found in picture books. The illustrations are simple, very much like what you see on the cover throughout. I thought this book was fun and imaginative, and I enjoyed the conversations between the little girl and the elf. If you have a child whose tastes run to fantasy, she or he may enjoy this book.
