Description

The story tells of a magical and adventurous quest undertaken by two friends below the earth, through portals to new Realms; meeting allies in the form of creatures, to help outwit the evil foes encountered on their journey. This is the first in a series for middle grade children and above.

The pair soon meet two of the ‘Earthlie’ children and explore their amazing and ingenious treehouse homes; learning about their extraordinary lives. Quinn is nine years old; he is strong, brave and has magical skills. His younger sister Vita is soon to turn 8 and anticipates the accompanying Scholar ceremony on that same date. Like all Earthlie children at age 8 their true Scholar nature is revealed and they join one of the schools to help develop their skills and attributes.

When Maggie and James are invited to return, they hear of a calamitous occurrence. Vita and her best friend, Archer, have been caught by The Snatcher. They are taken through a portal to The Realm of The Grimms; an evil band of ogres. The Grimms are huge and are revoltingly grubby, mean and dull. They treat the youngsters as menial slaves; their only hope is to escape but even then they will have to negotiate the Dark Wilds filled with strange and usual creatures.

Maggie, Quinn and James set out to rescue the two friends in time to return for the Scholar ceremony. An adventurous rescue ensues which tests their nerves and skills. The three encounter The Wild Bandits and meet some allies en route to Argatron, the capital city of the Realm.

Will they be successful and manage to return home in time for the all-important Scholar ceremony?

"I listened to the story on Audible first then bought a copy for Kindle.

A great narration on Audible - perfect for bedtime, general listening....

The book is the first in a series and begins Maggie and James's extraordinary journey into a bizarre and fascinating world that is right under their feet... Meeting Quinn and Vita, two young Earthlie children, James and Maggie are soon caught up in a quest to rescue Vita and another young Earthlie from the gruesome Ogres.

The author weaves a fantasy full of strange and at times gruesome creatures. Peril isn't far away, and as their journey progresses the youngsters are faced with some difficult choices... It has all the elements of a quest - saving themselves and their new friends whilst learning so much about themselves.

Written with humour, a steady flow of interesting characters, the story builds nicely to a crescendo.

I would suggest Under the Green is a book for a confident reader - any 8 to 12 year old would consume the story rapidly, and come back wanting more!' Linda Jones, Author

“I really enjoyed reading Underground Adventure. It was very original; I have not read anything like it before. I liked the idea of having a whole world underground. I particularly liked the Colour Ceremony where they all got told which school they would go to. I liked it when Maggie discovered that she could talk to animals and how they were helped by animals, it made it more magical and adventurous. The book was fun to read and I could not stop reading it.”

I give this book 5 out of 5, it was super! I liked Vita, Vince, Imari, Maggie and Quinn a lot. I hope book 2 is as amazing as this one.

The first book of a series is charming, fun to read and full of magic! I enjoyed the spunk and goodness of the characters in this novel. The novel is fast paced with several twists and turns. There is never a dull moment. I can’t wait to read the next book of this series.

Maggie and James are good friends so when Maggie finds a trapdoor, she shows him. They decide to see where it leads.

BooksGoSocial and Net Galley gave me the opportunity to read this for review (thank you). It has been published and you can get a copy now.

When they follow the staircase down, they meet two children there and their adventures begin.

They learn there is another world beneath theirs. They go with the children they met and find that they have good food and tasty drinks. There's also a danger there. They could get captured and be given to the ogres as slaves. They manage to stay safe but one of their new friends gets captured.

They agree to help get the ones stolen back. Maggie finds she can talk to animals. The help them get where they need to go.

It's dangerous but they don't run. They use the skills they have to try to rescue them. Will they be successful?
