Such a sweet book to teach little ones self-soothing and mindfulness. I wish this book had been around when I was a wee one. Cute as a button illustrations of our animal friends in nature will keep children engaged. Perfect for reading outside and practicing some of the strategies presented while surrounded by nature. I could definitely tell the author has connected with the fact that our fellow animals have a lot to teach us.

This little picture book is an adorable introduction to some self-soothing strategies for children. A nice, calming bedtime read and a great discussion starter.

This little story picture book is so damn precious!

Let's get this. These books actually help. Kids are generally shy and start getting anxious in unfamiliar surroundings (forget kids! We all do!).

Because we have been taught to be careful and to fear all the time.

So yes, let's read such cute little books with amazing (yes, candy like!) illustrations which actually tells you easy steps to follow in case you get too much anxious in a situation.

Love this book!

Those cute little animals though! My heart is happy!

Thank you, Authors and the Publisher for this advanced reader copy.

This book is such a great idea to introduce mindfulness to kids.

Great colour palette with cute illustrations and bold colour choices. I really liked the inclusions of different animals in the book.

My favourite snippet was "When a problem feels enormous and you don't know what to do, just break it into little steps: one hop, two hops, go you!"
This was a great problem solving introduction.

Great book, would recommend to any kid and their parents (parents could use some mindfulness introduction too!).

As a primary school teacher and parent, I know how important it is to help children practice self-regulation. This sweet picture book uses engaging rhymes and colorful illustrations to teach children about mindfulness. It would be a wonderful addition to any preschool or home library!

"A child friendly introduction to self-soothing and mindfulness with adorable animal friends."

A beautifully illustrated and written book about a cute little sheep and some adorable friends surrounding him. Perfect for any child who has anxiety tendencies to teach them to stop, breathe, think happy thoughts and take a moment. Easy steps and strategies for a parent to teach and a child to learn to ease the worries of the day.

Perfect for reading to children/grandchildren and a lovely book for them to read themselves when older, to help them overcome any worries or anxieties they face growing up.

The illustrations are particularly cute and well drawn, and overall a book I would recommend to friends.

A cute book to talk to little ones about big feelings when one is overwhelmed.
This is a great way to introduce mindfulness to little ones and let them know that feeling like that is normal. The cute rhymes will be ones that will stay with them, so they can use later on.
It's a cute storybook with great illustrations, so I'm sure it will be fun even for those who aren't struggling with any anxiety.

Many thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy.

This is a wonderful children's book! I think mindfulness is so important, and this book is such a sweet way to teach this to even the smallest children. The words are so relaxing and the pictures are beautiful. I will definitely be adding this to my kid's library! I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This book is TOO CUTE. It's perfect to read with a child who is may need to learn how to calm their troubled mind. It's trying to get the child to participate in mindful breathing to reduce stress and anxiety they may be experiencing. The main action it expresses is basically: "Inhale, exhale, repeat."

Each new scene in the book shows a different animal that needs to learn this little exercise, followed by the animal's happiness when it takes a moment to breathe. (And those little critters are just ADORABLE! I love the illustrations!!)

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in return for an honest opinion.

4 stars.

These days and this year in particular, days been full of stress, worry and anxiety, not just for adults but kids of all ages too. I like how there is a book about being calm for little kids. It's important that they learn ways to cope at a touch age so that they will cope better as teens and adults.

I also like the illustrations. They were colourful and interesting to look at. I would definitely pass this on to my little niece and all other little kids, especially those who are a bit more sensitive.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.
This book is adorable. The artwork is very cute and has a comforting nursery feel to it- lots of fluffy sheep and penguins. It’s a really good sleep promoting book I feel. Although I think this can be read equally effectively in a school setting as well. I don’t think it’s a particularly insightful observation to make, but I rather think 2020 has created a lot of anxiety for children and adults alike. I think stories like this can be a useful tool to help children understand and release that anxiety. At the end there is even a suggested activity to do with your child to help control anxiety. I also loved the rhyming pattern of this book and it made it a fun and memorable read.

Young children are just little balls of emotion and this book is the perfect way to teach them some kind of control. The world is super frustrating at any age and having some kind of technique in your pocket to help calm and control your emotions and to be mindful of how we are feeling will help anyone in the long run. This is one of the first things my husband and I taught our daughter to do when she would get overwhelmed and I'm so pleased to see this technique of self-soothing brought on through a cute story and illustrations. She's 6 now and it has prevented many meltdowns. My 4 year old on the other hand would never try this technique and he would bottle up and explode. He enjoyed the book and I'm hoping reading this a few more time and using it as an example of slowing down and mindfulness will help him. Aside from the great lesson it can teach us, the book itself was super cute and an easy read. I can't say enough about what the book has to offer though! This book would be a terrific addition to any children's' library and the lesson learned could be priceless! I would greatly recommend this book!

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

As the importance of mindfulness is being realized in the broader society, this book becomes particularly important and timely. Pictures are beautifully drawn and the text simply is written so children can be introduced to the concept of being calm and are encouraged to take deep breaths. I think there is more room for other exercises for calmness to be included though.

This is a great introduction to mindfulness and meditation for littles. I loved how practical and simple the ideas are but I wish it stuck to less types of animals because some just didn't flow well. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital review copy.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep by Jessica Lee is such a wonderful and calming little children's book! Anxiety is so common these days in children, and mindfulness is so important to help deal with that. This book is a sweet and gentle way to guide even the smallest children in easy mindfulness practices that they can learn and use in their daily life. The pictures are colorful and lovey as well.

Sweet book that helps teach kids self-soothing techniques. It's a great resource for parents unsure of how to handle or approach anxiety with their kids and will surely be a great conversation starter.

Illustrations are adorable too, and all the adorable animals should hold shorter attention spans for quite awhile.

This would make for a great gift to new parents. Definitely buying a copy when it's released!

A perfect social-emotional learning book for little ones! Learn how a variety of animal friends deal with their worries: imagining something happy, wiggling their body, sharing feelings, taking deep breaths.... Each struggle and strategy gets a before and after illustration to show kids what to do, and most strategies also show parents and friends helping them feel better, too. It's all presented in a very soothing and natural way.

"Breathe deep, little sheep, there's no need for alarm. Inhale, exhale, then repeat. You're learning to stay calm."

I can absolutely see a parent or teacher referencing this book when their child is struggling with emotions, and maybe acting out the strategies with their child as well!

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep by Jessica Lee was a delightful book that had an important message. It is never to early to teach our little ones to recognize their emotions and the power they have to gain control over their thoughts. The beautiful illustrations showed a variety of animals and the fun circumstances that caused them to exhale, relax and repeat. The message on mindfulness was even a good reminder for me! My almost four year old was a big fan of this book and the easy to remember mantras will be shared when he is feeling less than calm!

I was provided a free copy of this book by Net Galley in exchange for a honest review. The opinions shared are my own.

This little introduction to mindfulness was very cute. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for in terms of a true introduction but it was enjoyable. I think having a little bit more explanation of what each animal was feeling before the calming down may have been more helpful. My child loved the illustrations and I really enjoyed the last page explaining different techniques to teach them how to breathe and calm themselves.

I like the simplicity of this book. The images are simple but saturated with calming colors. The rhyming pattern makes it entertaining and sing-songy for little children and rhymes tend to be easier to remember. There is also some repetition with the suggested mantra "inhale, exhale, then repeat." In fact, I wouldn't have minded more repetition of that mantra, but that is something the reader/parent could tack on to the end of each rhyming section. The author pulled habits that are relevant to both the animals and humans in reactions to fear or anxiety, like a dog hiding under a bed during a thunderstorm or a squirrel hoarding nuts. Further the end page that is primarily addressed to the adult reader, discusses why breathing can help with staying calm and details exercises you can try that may help your child understand this and learn a breathing technique.

This is a book that would be great at a baby shower or for a toddler gift! It's never too early to start teaching the foundations to calm down.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep: A Calm Down Book for Kids by Jessica Lee gives young children tools for calming themselves. Their are animals who have anxieties and fears who need help learning strategies for being able to deal with their feelings. Some of the strategies include imagining a peaceful preferred place, exercising to shake worries loose, using words to verbalize feelings, quieting busy thoughts, and calming their breathing. There is also a page to explain how to teach steps for calming down to young children. The illustrations by Lucia Wilkinson are cute and are very peaceful looking. This book would be perfect for parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and therapists to use to teach young children how to calm their anxieties. As a special education teacher (self contained autism), I have had many students who have had meltdowns because they are unable to deal with their anxieties and worries. This is definitely a book that I will be adding to my classroom library to help my students.

This title has absolutely adorable and appealing illustrations of both young and adult animals. These should bring a smile to the face of both the child and adult who are looking at this book together. Further, seeing animals and not children may make it easier for children to engage with a book about anxiety.

This is a book to read with a child who is experiencing a bit of anxiety or to read with a child way before those feelings arise. There are gentle suggestions of things to try when a child is overwhelmed. The message that something can be done should be reassuring to a child. Practice right along with the child that you know and let them know that we all need to calm ourselves at times.

This is a book that has a number of suggestions. They do not have to all be done at once. Perhaps a child can pick something to try based on the pages that most appeal to them.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. It is an excellent resource.

As a therapist, I'm always looking for tools to use with young children, and to share with families to support their kids at home.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep is an accessible, sweet introduction to mindfulness techniques that will engage children and simplify teaching techniques for parents and professionals. The rhymes in this book aid with engagement and with retaining the skills so they can be used during times of anxiety.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep introduces young children to the importance of learning to self calm when anxiety or worrying starts. Simple text offers strategies such as breathing deeply, taking a break somewhere quiet and talking about feelings. The illustrations feature animals and fit the strategies well. A perfect introduction to self calming and mindfulness.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep is a book for children to help them learn to deal with anxiety. I would encourage parents to read this first solo to see if it's a good fit for their child. It's written in a sing-songy rhyme that makes for soothing reading and the illustrations are colorful and cute... but there is one scene of a sheep with tears in its eyes that might upset some small children. Also: the word "exhale" might be tough for young readers.

At the end of the book, there are some suggestions for parents. I thought the pinwheel idea was really clever.

This book aims to help young children with anxiety. It is a simple, short rhyme with colorful illustrations of animals employing self-soothing tools. After the story, it has a three-step guide for parents/caregivers to help their children work through their anxiety.

Each page has a different animal using a different strategy. I feel that the book might have been more effective if one character held the story together rather than several; it would have allowed for a child to relate to the character.

The illustrations are bright and colorful and simply adorable. Parents with children who suffer from anxiety may find this book to be helpful.

Charming animals help teach young readers how to calm down and relax by breathing deep, slow breaths. The various animals face situations that humans do and demonstrate how to relax and not be anxious. Readers can read the text for themselves or with an adult who can reinforce what the book is saying. Delightful illustrations help readers feel they are part of the scene too. Informative steps provided at the end of the book.

*Please note that this review was delayed due to a period of health complications

I love this book so much! "Breath Deep, Little Sheep" is the perfect balance of colourful, fun, and helpful, and achieves so much despite the simplicity of its concept. The text and advice is age appropriate. I can imagine this being very useful for children who are only just starting to understand the world around them and maybe getting a bit overwhelmed by it all. As a former highly sensitive child (now a highly sensitive adult), I wish something like this had been around when I found myself being controlled by my emotions. Of course, my parents helped as much as they could; that said, I do feel like this could be a very good tool for modern parents who want their child to feel safe and secure in themselves.
