A very sweet and charming book about being introverted and the joys of it. I absolutely adored this book and found myself relating to it very much. It’s a perfect read for anyone who is an introvert! The artwork was cute and the book itself had a lot of fun moments and very relatable statements!

The overall story is super cute, the illustration style is not my cup of tea but it works really well with the story.

It was a light read, with an interesting topic and comprehensible characters. I was not very pleased with the color choice of the illustrations. The illustration was actually nice, but the color scheme did not work for me, it was not complementing the relaxing and light story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

I can imagine giving this gift to a young person who is just realizing that they are introverted. It is a lovely little set of illustrations that explain what being an introvert might mean and how powerful that is. I think this would be a great book for anyone aged 8 or older.

"A Turtle's Guide to Introversion is a delightful illustrated gift book that celebrates the wonderful qualities of introverts through the everyday adventures of a turtle."

There are almost too many good things about this book to list. I absolutely adored the little turtle and could really relate to most situations presented. I loved how easily this book depicted situations I sometimes struggle with as an adult and normalized being an introvert. The drawings are absolutely delightful and convey the message clearly and succinctly. I highly recommend this short book.

This little nugget by author/artist Ton Mak featuring a turtle talking about what it’s like to be an introvert will likely check all the boxes for those of you like myself who understand it so keenly on a day-to-day basis. The simple line drawings are cute and effective - though I’m not sure I entirely understand the thing between the turtle’s eyes. Is it a nose? I’m confused. It’s a minor thing - it just threw me a little visually. The content is spot-on. I doubt anyone who’s a bonafide introvert will hear anything they didn’t already know, so in that respect, it might be a better gift for someone’s extroverted friends and family to give them insight into why you tick the way you do. Having said that, there is a nice sense of empowerment and validation for us introverts - like, hey … you’re not weird! Well, you might be a little weird, but that’s OK! Aren’t we all a little weird? ... No? ... Just me? I’m cool with that.

It’s a short, breezy, thoughtful read. It could be a cute little jumping off point for discussion with those extroverts in your life who look at you and scratch their heads.

I just looked and, in addition to a previous book A Sloth’s Guide to Mindfulness, Mak has a website flabjacks.com which displays her art. Most of it is very colorful, in contrast to the more subdued line art style used in the book. Bonus, though: I figured out what the thing between the turtle’s eyes is. It’s a mouth. I can sleep easy now.

This is exactly what it says on the tin. A cute little turtle talks about what it is like to be an introvert. The drawings are cute. The illustrations are straight forward. No hidden jokes or easter eggs (that I saw at least). If you are an introvert you will find yourself reflected in the turtle. I could see it as a good gift for your extrovert friends or even for a younger kid who doesn't quite understand what an introvert is. The words of encouragement at the end were really sweet. It's a quick little read. Though not funny or particularly inspiring so it hits about middle of the road for me.
I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.

Such a wonderful little book, it is so nice to see yourself so well represented and explained to others who don't underdtand us introverts. I'll be recommending this book on my blog when it comes out alongside the sloth's guide to mindfullness

This adorable little book about an introverted turtle celebrates all the quirky things that make us introverts us. Preferring to be alone than feeling awkward in social settings, but often being wrongly labelled as anti-social, turtle examines what it means to be quietly confident in a loud world and how special, yet misunderstood we are. Turtle shows us that introversion is a great strength and that acceptance of who we are, all the “wonderful bits and the weird” is vital in order to be our true authentic selves.

This would make a lovely nurturing gift for those people in our lives who may be lacking confidence or needing a reminder that it’s okay to be who they are. As the wise turtle says, “Confidence doesn’t always roar”.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my honest review.

Simple and relatable. The story is about an inverted turtle and just is. I'm familiar with the author and their style of art. The overal tone of the book is peaceful. It's about being introversed, being comfortable in your own skin, being true to who you are. Could be perfect as book gift.

This was a soothing book letting people know that being an introvert is not such a bad thing. I was a little put off by the colors of the book and hope they change the coloring before printing.

I really enjoyed the book because it is a quick read and it shows the bright side of being an introvert. I think during this quarantine time introverts are really thriving and it’s nice to hear the positives of it. I really enjoy the illustrations and the fact that it is a cute turtle.

I loved this book! It was funny, cute and spot on for introverts. I’ve never read a book where I saw myself in turtle form before!
I think this book is great for people to recognize that there are people out there who are just like them and that it’s ok to feel the way they do. It’s also a good way for extroverts to see how introverts think!
I thought it was short and sweet and just overall a good read!
I could see this being a gift book or even a book for kids to help them justify their feelings and emotions.

This is SO CUTE. The drawings are lovely and flow well with the easy-to-read text. The story has a breezy feel to it. It makes me feel happy and content the way that I am. I like the message of inner strength and courage that this book shares about introverts.

The dialogue can be read and interpreted by adults and children alike. (Except for one mild swear.)

Can be read in 5-10 minutes.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in return for an honest opinion.

It is 4 stars from me for this one, I could sympathise with parts and it did make me give a smile in places too.

This story is a simple tale of a turtle who explains how they see the world, as an introvert.

The turtle [our MC] talks about what they do to self-care, what happens when the world gets to be too much, and how to have their voice heard, even in a room full of extroverts.

I really enjoyed the story- It was simple but impactful, and I can see it being a useful book for pre-teens and teens, as they try to figure out their own emotions as they grow up.

The art design was cute, and appealing.

This is that book I wish I had read when I was younger. Especially during my adolescence. I am an introverted person. For many years I considered myself antisocial, in fact, many said I was antisocial.

As I grew up, I realized that I was actually nothing like what they said I was. I'm just a more introverted person. Unlike many, I love spending time alone, just as I prefer tasks that I can work for myself rather than in groups.

For many years I thought the problem was me, who needed to change my way of being. But no, I am the way I am and I don't need to change. This book would have been a brave and huge help. I identified a lot with this book, even though it's a good read for a younger audience, it still makes sense for more adults to read.

I honestly consider this book an obligatory reading, I see myself in the future re-reading this book just to remind myself that it is ok to be an introverted person. An incredible book, I recommend this book, it's wonderful.

I thought this was a very cute book about introversion. As an introvert, I could relate to this book a lot and I feel like others could learn about introversion through this book. I liked how the main character followed was a turtle because many people see turtles as shyer creatures.

This quick little illustrated book is a peaceful, reflective read for introverts. The drawings are cute, and the text provides simple reminders about all the things that introverts enjoy (and also the things they find challenging). It makes for a few pleasant and mindful moments.

As I was scrolling through Netgalley, this one jumped out at me , simply due to its name and cover. I  had not read or seen any of Ton Mak's previous work, but I ended up picking this one!
I guess it was meant to be. I am not a full introvert  but I do possess certain characteristics which make me relate to being one.
This was a very short and quick read. (took me a few minutes, that's all! )
The illustrations were cute and in context to the situation described. Ton Mak has brought out the essence of being an introvert  exceptionally well in a few short sentences, none of which are preachy.
Through extremely relatable situations, she has brought  forth the   criticism and misunderstanding that a lot of introverts face and has effectively displayed an introvert's POV.

Peppered with humour, it covered my face with a lot of smiles  and I found myself nodding along in agreement at many places.
Introverts, definitely go through a lot of turmoil as  they learn to identify themselves as one and society does not make  it easier for them. This short illustration, would definitely come as a soothing and insightful balm during such times.

It makes it easier for introverts to accept and understand themselves, and provides a boost to their confidence.
And the best part is, the book can be easily comprehended  by an extrovert who wishes to or needs to understand the opposite type  to a certain extent.

For the younger lot, I would definitely recommend this one as it is simple, informative, entertaining and gets the idea across in a very short span of time.
A growing child, irrespective of its personality, will benefit from being aware  of the information presented here.
For adults too, it would work as a good reminder to accept themselves as they are and to celebrate their personality irrespective of what the rest might have to say about it.

On a side note, I especially loved the turtle and would love to experience this as an animation 😊

Thank you to Netgalley and Ton Mak for making this ARC available! It gave me a lovely few minutes this morning.

As an introvert, this book is very relatable. The illustrations are simple but cute. Fun, quick read. It would make a good little gift or coffee table book.

A good book to give to your favorite introvert. A book to help extroverts understand introverts. A quick read with cute illustrations. Unfortunately, the neon green and purple colors in the eVersion made some illustrations difficult to see. Any grey text against the purple background was illegible. Other than that, we give this one 4 stars.

A cute illustrated book about introverts and how they feel and behave using animals. The introvert turtle is so relatable, I didn't feel like it added anything new to the introverts books I've read, but the reading process was relaxing and enjoyable, and it's good every now and then to read a book that confirms my introversion.

“I don’t like small talk. Not because I am unfriendly or dislike conversations-but simply because it feels sort of forced sometimes.”

As a social introvert, sometimes it’s hard for people to understand how, dependent on the setting, I can appear to be both introvert and extrovert. This one line from this book sums up so much of the answer.

Overall, the book’s illustrations are simplistic, yet it really highlights the simplicity in understanding what defines an introvert.

This picture book for adults (which would have been suitable for children if the one and only curse word had been omitted) is a charming and humorous take on the joys and challenges of being an introvert. I really enjoyed it. This would make a cute little coffee table book or a sweet gift for a friend.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for a digital advance review copy. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I'm an introvert who loves turtles, so when I saw A Turtle's Guide to Introversion on NetGalley, of course I had to request it! This is a really cute book with a great message, and I could definitely relate to the turtle. This book would make a great gift, and I think most introverts would enjoy it. Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for giving me the opportunity to read it. : )

It is an illustrated book and reframes introversion in a positive way. It is cute but seems more geared to middle school audience rather than adults. It is a decent book but not what I thought it would be - a more in depth discussion of introversion.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this book.

It’s a well established fact that I’m an introvert. Besides my lived experience, I have also found multiple books that could have been written about me.

I found myself on almost every page of Debbie Tung’s ‘Quiet Girl in a Noisy World’. If my introversion was ever in doubt (it wasn’t), the perfect score I achieved on Jenn Granneman’s signs I might be an introvert in her book, ‘The Secret Lives of Introverts’, was a big ‘I told you so’ to any naysayers out there.

If you’re a kindred introvert, you’ll probably get some validation and a reminder that you’re fine just the way you are from this book. If you’ve already read books that talk about introversion on any detail, it’s unlikely you’ll find any new information in this book.

This gift book has cute illustrations. However, I found the colours jarring. I read this book on an iPad; maybe the colours would look better on a different screen. It’s also possible, because I’m mindful that I read an advanced copy, the colour scheme could change prior to publication.

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read this book.

This is a short book perfect for a coffee table of someone who rarely has friends over. Perfect for someone who feels like they'd curl up in their turtle shell of a home with a good book with a cup of tea, with cute illustrations and a children's book format.

This was a delightful and quick read!

It's my first book by this author, and I'll definitely be reading her other works.

As an introvert myself, most of the pages resonated with me. Our inner worlda are complex and detailed. I like how traits of introverts are explained in simple language so as to explain our idiosyncrasies to people who want to learn more about the introverts in their life.

I don't normally do so, but I'll be reading this again in a couple of days to check for any aspects I missed this time around.

Final verdict: 5 absolutely deserved stars!

I really enjoyed this book, it has a happy feel and flows really well. It is certainly very relatable and makes you feel both at ease and proud to be an introvert!

The images are really cute and detailed, I love the way they cleverly reflect introversion. Tom Mak has absolutely hit the nail on the head with the way he has dipicted intorvesion, and the drawings it to this very well.

A must read for all introverts out there!!

A Turtle's Guide to Introversion by Ton Mak is a delightful book that familiarizes introversion to its readers. The illustrations are eye catching and the narrative has a smooth flow. The single sentence panels add emphasis without breaking the flow. The book clearly explains the plight of introverts. It clears up a few misconceptions about introversion without getting up on a soap box. I liked the way the book articulates what most introverts go through in everyday life. I enjoyed reading this book and I think that it is a book that should be read by all especially those who see introversion in a negative light.
