Description

More of a story than a collection of poetry, Love by Night will whisk you away from your world and into the dreamy romantic night.

Love by Night begins with anxious hesitation and nervous attraction, grows into tender affection, blossoms into passionate love, delves deep into whimsical dreams, and finally builds an image of an idyllic future together, as the reader develops along with the two characters of this poetic story.

Written as a conversation between two points of view in constant change and flux with each other, this book invites the reader into the conversation about the love that connects one person to another, but also all of us to each other.

Through this written testament to the emotional journeys books can take us on, S. K. Williams breaks down stereotypes, sexism, relationship roles, and brings awareness to mental health, grief, anxiety, depression, how to move forward, how to love in a healthy way, and, most of all, how to love yourself when it feels impossible.

Explore the depths of love by night. You mind need a night light though because there are more than a few shadows and nightmares uncovered in this book that explores love in all its splendor and terror. Loneliness, despair, elation, attraction, wantonness...they are all in here in this honest work. I highly recommend.

I thought this was such a sweet read. Reminded me when my husband and I started dating and talking in love. Brings good vibes.

This was so beautiful and it really took my breath away. This poetry collection is a conversation (in poem form) between two people who are falling in love, along with that, it's also about self-love, finding yourself, and the magic in the universe. It was like watching a love story unravel in front of me, which made it feel so special. As a romance reader, that aspect made me really happy, and it was so beautiful.

The writing is simple but it's impactful, romantic, and lovely. Every poem was a pleasure to read and there were illustrations, which I loved so much. They were gorgeous and really made the story come to life and added so much magic to the experience. I didn't have high expectations because I didn't know much about the book going in and didn't see any good reviews, but I was so pleasantly surprised, and I'm so happy I picked the book up.

This collection is filled with love, hope, and emotion, and if that sounds like it's up your alley, definitely give it a try. I don't think you're gonna regret it.

Was swept away from the beginning of the pages and really made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's a friendly reminder of the way one feels in the states of love and romance

"The sun slipped away beneath the horizon
slivers of light faded
we walked the length of the beach
and lay there together in the dark
to watch the waves reaching toward us
and I realised I felt more bare
and vulnerable than I ever had before

and yet, I felt safer, too,
in the dark beneath the moon
with the rest of the world at our feet"

Love by Night is an artistic poetry collection, compiled by the famed Instagram poetry account. Divided into 5 sections and each a phase of the moon starting from new moon to full moon, this cosy and tender poetry collection explores a heartwarming romance that you can read snuggled up in your bed, with some music that evokes a deep yearning for love, in the twilight.
Written from two perspectives, this poetry collection has a dreamy romanticism attached to it. I haven't been in a proper relationship (except when I was daydreaming about them) to relate to anything the poems were going on about and this just made me feel super single. But not in a way that makes me feel lonely. Instead, it was in a way that made me dream of such love. Such a relationship. Something so tender and idyllic.

It is an easy, simple collection to read through and a fluid magical one at that, something I would recommend to the newbies in the genre searching for reads to experience poetry at its magnificence. And also, something that is not too complicated for them to comprehend through. With illustrations that will melt your heart away, this is a perfect bed-time read.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing for the DRC!

This book was honestly a great surprise for me. Much better than I expected.
It's such a beautiful collection of love poems! Feels good reading about these people. It makes you want a love like theirs. I can't even select a few favorite quotes to share, because then I'd be quoting the whole book.

Absolutely love it!

These poems are sweet and sad and beautiful. Told in what I believe to be dual POV from two halves of a couple, these poems give an incredibly intimate and beautiful look into how a relationship begins and evolves.

This is so romantic and aesthetically pleasing to read. Every page is so gorgeous with illustrations and I just loved everything about it. I also liked the idea and concept a lot. The last poem in this book is so hard-hitting, it stirred emotions in me.

I smiled dozens of times and cried a few while reading this collection of beautiful poetry. This collection is a conversation between a man and a woman about their love story, from anxiousness of new love to the familiarity of being with your soulmate and best friend. It is also a journey of self love for both people, finding their other soulmate within themselves and learning to love themselves, imperfections and all, through the perspective of their true love. Williams compares this love to the seasons, to the sun, to the moon, to the stars, to the sea, to the tides. And not because it is mundane, but because it is inevitable and unshaken.

The story these poems told was relatable with just a touch of whimsy. The journey of self-love was just a beautiful as the love story, where both the man and the woman found a sense of belonging with their partner and also with themselves. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection and look forward to picking up a physical copy.

This book of poetry reminds me of what it was like falling in love with my husband and also what it’s like being in love with him now. It is absolutely gorgeous and I will definitely be looking out for more poetry from this author. This was one of my favorite books I read in 2020 and I will be adding this book to my collection of physical copies.

Such a beautiful and deep poetry book about the night! I can't express how much I loved it and how much it inspired me! Thank you for the chance of reading it, NetGalley!

I was given an ARC through NetGalley.

I enjoyed this book! I was in the mood for some poetry and I loved the romantic aspect of this book. The poems were easy to read and understand. There were some I loved and then there were some I feel like didn’t grab any emotion from me.

I do think it’s an overall enjoyable read, just not as in depth as I would’ve liked for a poetry book.

This was quick read for me and I’m excited to see what other books the other will release!

This is a romantic tale of two lovers. They talk to each other about their love and how it evolves through the ages. I would recommend this to teenagers who experience their first love or to anyone who wants to remember how being in love feels. The illustrations were beautiful.

Received an advance copy from Netgalley.

This was written beautifully as a conversation between two people. While I did feel some endings were very repititious this whole read was enjoyable.

Talks of the moon, love, not being enough to conversations regarding the other side, being more than enough and how love isn't necessarily saying the right thing. Sometimes love is just sitting in the dark with someone so they aren't alone.

This collection of poems tells a story. The subject is the evolution of a relationship with all of the inherent vulnerability, revelation, hope, fear, acceptance and more that come to light. The poems are from the perspectives of two people and reflect their growing connection to each other. This title will perhaps make readers think back to when a relationship began or wish for the start of one. It is a tale well told.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

This book of poetry was so sweet. I honestly usually don't love romantic poetry. I tend to prefer poetry about more hard-hitting topics but this collection was very unique, featuring the voices of both people in the relationship instead of just the one person who's pining or heartbroken. That in itself made this collection really enjoyable for me.

Next, I saw someone compare this style of poetry to Instagram poetry and I have to completely disagree. While some of the poems are shorter, there are other longer ones which take up a page or two. This isn't something you'd see in Instagram poetry!

Lastly, the illustrations were amazing. The collection is broken up into sections corresponding with the phases of the moon and the drawings in between and throughout were so beautiful. These types of books feel like hydration for my soul! Well done.

Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5

This was a sappy, sweet book of poetry that was a fairly short read. No poem really stood out in particular, it was the overall story that was really nice. The first two sections in particular I thought were really sweet and good, but the third section kind of fell off in my opinion. I also thought that the beginning was a little confusing when I wasn't sure exactly what the form was in terms of the switching perspectives. Overall, this was a solid and cute collection about love.

When I was browsing poetry books coming out in 2021, this one caught my eye suddenly. Night, being the most used element in poetry, is used by a lot of poets to discover what is hidden from the human sight. Unlike most sorrowful night poems, this collection has a more cheerful undertone talking about connection between two people as well as with others.

Love By Night is more about the developing love interests between two people and the fact that it was written in poetic style makes it quite beautiful. It is almost a short novella written in poetic style , which came across so genuine and nor forced. What I found to be great was how each poem felt so simple using stream of consciousness. As a reader, the poems lure you into two people’s conversations about their vulnerable moments, hence why I believed the fact that these poems were written at night. There is something magical and sorrowful at nights: the sounds of silence presents you naked to the world.

What makes love so genuine is the themes surrounding it such as worries, future, and being able to be vulnerable to open up to each other. I really loved the fact that, love was mentioned in a more mature way in this collection. The entire collection opens up a window into the life of two lovers for us to watch them silently.

Every year, I set several types of reading goals, usually some combination of a specific number of books, a reading challenge, and a certain genre of books that I want to expand into. 2021 was no different. I recently became obsessed with Tik Tok, and somewhere amongst the hours and hours of scrolling, I came across the account of an author who had recently released a book of poetry. I became obsessed, mostly because the subject matter in the book seemed to align exactly with what was going on in my personal life. Inspired by this book, I decided to set a goal in 2021 of reading more poetry. To help me achieve this goal, I went to NetGalley, and asked to review the book, “Love By Night” by SK Williams.

I chose this book because the description of the book seemed to fit closely with the book that inspired this sudden interest in poetry – a longing for a certain person that is so deep you find it hard to breathe sometimes.  Am I the only one who's a glutton for misery in that way?

Love by Night is written from dual perspectives - a male and female navigating a relationship from meeting, to being friends, and developing into something more. This is something I love in the novels I read, but something I found hard to follow in this piece of work. Maybe it would read differently if I read the actual book, but on my tablet I had a very hard time differentiating between the voices. Some of the actual pages were different colors, and I found myself assuming a different color meant a different perspective, and that wasn't always the case. On every page, I had to read ahead to find gender indicators.

Aside from my small rant about something that is probably petty to most people, the writing in this book was superb. There were several lines I read that I re-read over and over a gain because it seemed to convey exactly what I'm feeling. Some of those quotes are:</p>

"You sit just inches away, but the inches feel like miles and though we aren't even touching I can feel you."

"You tell me I don't have to come over, I don't have to stick around, I don't have to love you. But you're wrong, you see, because every part of me wants to stay, wants to be with you, and wants to love you. So please, just let me."

In summary, this piece of literature is very emotional, very profound - a little hard to read, but the content makes up for it.

A book of love poems shown from both perspectives in a relationship. Beautifully illustration goes along with the poems and add to the overall experience. It's a quick book of poetry but we'll worth a read if you want to remember what it's like to first be in love.

What I loved about this collection of poems is the parallels of two people in a committed relationship. From the early, nervous interactions, to the growing old and grey of forever, this collection has both sides speaking their minds and exploring their hearts.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this collection!

This poetry collection was beautiful. If you want a love story but with the perspectives of both/all parties, this is for you. I did not know what to expect when I saw this but poems about love. What I got was a collection about what it is like to fall in love and the fears that come along with that. I think my favorite part of this collection, is that it is like a conversation between this couple about how they fell in love with each other. This was so stinking adorable, cute, and gives you all of the warm fuzzy feelings. Everything about this collection was amazing. Their voices, the art, the stories they share about their love for each other. Everything. This is one of those things that make you love, love. I hope we get more from this couple in the future!

A selection of long and short poems. Some really good poems on love or thinking about a loved one. Some really nice and simple watercolour art on a lot of the pages.
