Great story! Siena is a powerful heroine. She saves not only herself, but Roderick, his son and his entire clan. She is selfless and pure of heart. Roderick is her perfect hero. He doesn’t believe he has it in him to love which makes all he does even better. It has some lighthearted and fun moments but is also filled with emotional ones.

Lady Siena Bertram of Bertram castle has been brutally abused both mentally by her father Cinge Bertram, of Balan castle who blames her for both her mother and her twin brother’s death. They both died in childbirth, on the day Siena was born-as she was the only one who survived. Her cold, heartless, father, sent Siena away to live with her cruel, evil, sadistic, older brother due to the fact she looked so much like her mother. Her brother beat and tormented her and making his people believe she was possessed and a white witch! She lived a loveless life, the only one to show her any kindness and affection was her maid Agatha and a tutor that educated her.

Siena is a healer and gifted with seeing the future but keeps her magic hidden. However, she does not know how to control her magic. Beyond that, her brother was so depraved he convinced his clan she was a witch due to the unusual birthmark on her arm that was shaped like a pitchfork. He also abused her maid Agatha for coming to her defense. Well enough was enough, she knew this time he was going to kill her. She knew it was him or her and by luck she stabbed him in his villainous black heart! The problem is his people did not defend her as they should honor and protect her and instead decided to hang her. Just as she was being hung she felt the blue face devil himself was coming to claim her. She wasn’t too off the mark as this human man was known as the Devils Laird to many!

A year ago Fidach Bertram had slaughtered Roderick’s White Dawn castle and all the people, mostly women while he and his warriors were away. His own wife had been raped and killed. His son Michael had been missing this entire time. So this man is filled with guilt for not leaving enough men to guard and protect his family and his people while he was away. Now his heart is ice cold and closed as he only feels hatred and wants vengeance and retaliation for the one who did this to his people. He wants to destroy the one who is responsible for this! He rebuilt his destroyed holding painting it black to never forget the dead. He knows Fidach Bertram, is responsible and wants to question him about Michael before he kills him, he doesn’t even know if his son is dead or alive!

Except when he surrounds Bertram castle he is shocked to see they are about to hang a woman! He is shocked when he discovers they were about to execute the Lady of Bertram! A lady they should be protecting-not killing! He saves Siena Bertram and over takes the castle. Now owing his allegiance to her since she killed his enemy. Plus he sees how battered she is with her swollen face and deep gash in her arm. He does not trust her people and felt like gagging when they were saying she was cursed and a witch. It just made Roderick protective of Siena as she is the first woman who has made him feel anything in a very long time.

Siena feels horrible by what her brother did to this clan, especially Roderick’s wife and son. She is hoping with her seer magic, the help of a green lady, and a fairy named Barra, she will find out what happened to Michael. The attraction between Roderick and Siena grows stronger. Yet Siena feels worthless and is hoping a holy grail might help end her existence. So now Roderick not only needs to find his son but he needs to find the lady that owns his heart! Time is of the essence will he be able to prove that the world will be a cold dark place without this wonderful woman who is nothing but a bright warm light and full of love? Find out the conclusion of this beautiful heart wrenching story.

Yet both Roderick and Siena are a bit broken and need to be mended. Will these star crossed lovers be able to seek what they need? As this English rose has never had a family’s love and this Scottish thistle had his family savagely ripped away. Will these two discover the answers to their prayers? Read and find out!

A noose tightens around your neck and you assume you are to die any moment! Then a mighty Warlord, Roderick of Kirkurd is the savior of Lady Siena. Roderick, who is known as the Devil’s Laird because his wife was violated and executed was there with his fighters to avenge her death and find his son.

It seems Lady Siena beat him to having the privilege of killing the slime who killed his wife. The people of her own village have always thought her a witch or cursed because of a mark on her skin. Lord Roderick does not take stock in such things and decides that he wants Lady Siena to come to his holding.

The journey is not a easy one because there is danger that awaits them on the path to the holding. Even once they arrive twists and turns will develop that you may not see coming!

The author does a superb job in keeping the flow of the storyline fresh and interesting. I would definitely recommend this book.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

Fast, sweet, sexy, love. Roderick is a man of strength and goodness. Siena has suffered her entire life. They come together and it's magic. I can't spoil the story for you. But you will enjoy every page, and I was sad when I got to the end.

The Devil's Laird by Brenda Jernigan starts off quickly and doesn't stop. Lady Siena is being hanged for murdering her brother. Turns out Roderick was on his way to kill Siena's brother for torching his land and killing his wife and child. Roderick saves Siena from certain death.

Roderick takes Siena home to his castle where he starts to fall for the beguiling woman who wants to work as a healer. His heart has been like ice since his family died, will Siena be the woman who can open up his heart to love again?

The romance between Roderick and Siena is very sweet. I really enjoyed their journey to their happily ever after.

Roderick and Siena are a match made in heaven in this story with historical romance and suspense. They meet when Roderick saves Siena from being hanged. Roderick and Siena eventually find out about the despair they both have gone through in their lives. They both slowly open their hearts to one another, and their love does get tested with other events in the story.

One of the positives in the story that I really enjoyed is the mythical and magical aspect of the story. I was not expecting mythical creatures or a well known legend to be part of the story, but the author has woven it so well in the storyline that it did not feel like it was a random event placed in the story. Another positive is the relationship between the two main characters. Roderick's wife was killed in an attack and his son is missing. Siena has the ability of visions that will take place in the future, but her family has shunned her due to her abilities. There is this common ground between the two characters, despite both of them being from very different backgrounds, and the author showcase those complexities between Roderick and Siena. Overall the story was very fluid, well written, and very enjoyable.

Lady Sienna was the sister of the Laird's enemy who killed his wife and kidnapped his son. so when he went for an revenge to kill his enemy he found Sienna instead; was about to be hanged for killing her brother. the laird saved her and took her as well as her made with him. He treated them properly in his house and one day they spent a night alone when they went to the cave Sienna had hidden His son. He already had a weird need to always protect the Lady and so this time he proposed a marriage to save her reputation but we all know that's not the real reason. They had a pretty good marriage life until Sienna's father sent a message about having the Laird's son and he will give him in exchange of her. As she knew she had some powers she went alone to save the child when Laird was away because she didn't want any bloodshed over her. She managed to successfully save the child with Barra's help and her power but got caught. the child reunited with his father but Laird went to save his wife after ensuring his son's security. He finally reunited with his wife and declared his love. Then they came back home together. I really love this book but I really wished there's an epilogue. But the book is a sweet romantic story. The steam level was pretty high too. I want an epilogue badly. I love how this book has no dramatic twist or cheating. My only struggle was the way Scottish people talked. But I managed anyway. Looking forward to read other books of this author.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley for my honest review.

This is the highlander book, I never knew I needed but now can not live without. I fell down the historical romance genre this summer and love highlander books the best. The story between Siena and Roderick is wonderful, you feel the pull on both sides, and that there is hints of legend and lore is just the icing on the cake.

I just finished reading this and don't want to give away any spoilers, but know that this is a wonderful story come to life and I can't wait to read by Ms. Jernigan. I couldn't put it down and read it in one night.
