Description

Emery "Cotton" Bishop has things she wants to forget. Secrets that need to stay buried.

After a trouble-filled stint in the military, Cotton is returning to her small Virginia hometown to heal and move on.

Nothing’s ever that easy, though.

It was a favor for a friend that brought Brodie Gallagher to Jessup Falls, Virginia. It's a murder-for-hire contract that keeps him there.

A hitman for the Irish mafia, Brodie wasn’t expecting instant sparks upon meeting Cotton. He really wasn’t anticipating the order from his boss telling him to kill her. Why would anyone want to kill this woman with shadows in her eyes?

When a second assassin is dispatched to do the job Brodie is struggling with, he does the only thing he can think of…

…he kidnaps her to make Cotton disappear.

In Lies We Trust is the third installment in the Reclaiming Heaven series, and is a standalone. Read Books 1 and 2 for a more enjoyable experience. Please be aware that this book involves events that may be triggers: rape, abduction, captivity, and family issues.

I was a beta reader for this story, and let me just say... this. book. is. FIRE! 🔥

Hitman falling for his hit? Yesss, please!

All the hotness, all the sparks, all the feels, and all the really, really good writing.

Cotton is a highly developed, likeable heroine with spunk, grit, humor, and vulnerability. And Brodie... PHEW! Let's just say we all need a hunky Irishman like him in our lives.

Whyte shines with her gorgeous prose and witty dialogue. The dynamic between the leads is fleshed out, intriguing, and full of danger, heat, and heart. Snag this gem of a story and thank me later.

I was really excited to read this book as the first one was fabulous.
Emery is Shilo’s best frienf. The characters showed themselves in book one and come part of this read too.
Emery is in the military until she is raped and forced to leave. What she doesn’t know is there is a hot on her. Meet Brodie; he’s the man that has been assigned to do the job.
What Brodie didn’t count on was falling for the girl.
Brodie and Emery are in hiding when their feelings start to develop and they are on the hideout from a killer. The replacement killer for a job that Brodie doesn’t want to go.
Fabulous read. Love the author. Cannot wait fir another one
Well done

Complementary copy given for my honest opinion and review. Copy provided by NetGalley.
Brodie and Cotton’s story was one of my favorites. Cotton suffered a traumatic assault but her trust in Brodie was unexpected and therapeutic. Brodie helps her find justice and they both find an everlasting love.

3.5-4 stars. Emery Bishop, aka Cotton, is Shiloh's best friend and she's back in Jessup Falls. Brodie Gallagher was in town because he was hired for a job to help protect Shiloh, but now that she's safe, he's got a new assignment. He's contracted to assassinate Emery. Which makes no sense once he meets her in person, on top of the undeniable attraction between them. Puzzled by the combination of both, Brodie knows he's not in a position to question his orders, but makes the last minute decision to defy anyway. This drags both Brodie and Cotton deeper into a hunt and chase with both of their lives on the line and little time to find answers. I liked Cotton's fierce attitude and independence. She faced certain struggles and hardships that she couldn't talk about with anyone and yet she found the strength to continue to move forward. And as awful as her situation had been, once Brodie discovers the truth, she has a strong ally and companion on her side. Finally she has someone who is willing to put everything on the line for her, which she deserved. The story is suspenseful and the plot is cleverly written, making the reader believe one thing while still dropping the clues for another. Brodie proves to be solid guy, too, using his judgment and instinct to prove his loyalty and trustworthiness. While there are some dark themes involved, I wouldn't consider this to be a dark read overall and always enjoy a story where assumptions have gone wrong, but justice still prevails.
