Description

"A propulsive mystery with high stakes and devious, masterful twists that will leave you guessing until the very last page. Diana Urban's latest had my jaw on the floor." —Jessica Goodman, bestselling author of They Wish They Were Us

Let’s play a game.

You have 24 hours to win. If you break my rules, she dies. If you call the police, she dies. If you tell your parents or anyone else, she dies.

Are you ready?

When Crystal Donavan gets a message on a mysterious app with a picture of her little sister gagged and bound, she agrees to play the kidnapper’s game. At first, they make her complete bizarre tasks: steal a test and stuff it in a locker, bake brownies, make a prank call.

But then Crystal realizes that each task is meant to hurt—and kill—her friends, one by one. But if she refuses to play, the kidnapper will kill her sister. Is someone trying to take her team out of the running for a gaming tournament? Or have they uncovered a secret from their past, and wants them to pay for what they did...

Author of All Your Twisted Secrets, Diana Urban’s explosive sophomore novel, These Deadly Games, is a must-read, propulsive YA thriller with deadly stakes, stunning twists, and a shocking ending you'll never forget—perfect for fans of I Know What You Did Last Summer and One of Us Is Lying.

I have to start by saying I loved this book! It kept me on the edge of my seat and turning every page (or scrolling on my phone, as it was). The Deadly Games starts with Crystal getting a text on her phone of her picture of her little sister tied to a chair, bound and gagged, and telling her she needed to play a game or else her sister dies. She can't tell anyone, can't call the police, nothing. Play the game or her sister dies. What comes next is a series of riddles, clues, random tasks meant to put Crystal through misery and also to put her friends in danger. Will Crystal be able to keep all of this a secret and save her sister? How much collateral damage might there be? And, most importantly, who is behind this?!?!?! I hate to post about a book I loved so much when it doesn't come out until February of next year. It's like a mean tease. So- kids who are reading this- put this on your wish list and I promise when it comes out I will have it on my classroom shelf next year!

This book is everything! I loved All Your Twisted Secrets, and Urban built on all of those elements to craft this amazing story! I have never been so stressed while reading a book before, I had to take breaks in the middle of chapters just to catch my breath. The way that Urban flips between past and present times is flawless and happens at the most inconvenient times so you have to keep reading to find out what happens next. This is why she is the queen of cliffhangers. I loved the way that as a reader you thought you knew what was happening, and then Urban would twist that on its head in the next paragraph. The whole premise of this book was amazing and I loved every nail biting moment of it. These Deadly Games is the perfect combination of revenge, forgiveness, family, and breaking points. It shows just how far we'll go for the people we love, and that the past can't stay buried forever.

All I have to say is WOW! I love a good mystery and this was one that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the video game aspect intertwined with the mystery I thought it was so unique. This story kept me guessing the entire time and I truly had no idea how things were going to play out. I read it in one sitting and that ENDING! This book is perfect for anyone who loves a high-stakes mystery. If you loved One of Us is Lying or a Good Girl's guide to Murder I would highly recommend picking this up.

Now Crystal has to race against time and the evil anonymous cyber stalker to save Caelyn while doing the bidding of a manipulative technological genius.
