Description

SOMETIMES THE ONLY THING MORE DANGEROUS THAN FORGETTING YOUR PAST... IS REMEMBERING IT.

Tom Saric is back with Book 2 of the Gus Young Thrillers series — offering readers a glimpse into the case files of a small-town psychiatrist and crafting a brilliantly-told tale of anger, betrayal and revenge in the process.

After a bloodied and disoriented twenty-something is found wandering the outskirts of a rural Maine town, psychiatrist Gus Young agrees to take her on as a client.

But when Sara Watson, the mysterious young woman, begins quoting verses from the Bible, Gus doesn’t know what to make of his newest patient. And soon, their sessions take an unexpected turn.

As he works to piece together Sara’s past, Gus comes to a shocking realization: Ms. Watson has just escaped a nearby cult — and the trauma from her time there runs far beyond the surface.

Then, after several supernatural experiences lead many in town to believe Sara is a second coming, she returns to the very same cult she escaped — except this time as their prophet.

However, Gus isn’t convinced Sara is who she claims to be. As her prophecies intensify and cult members become more and more frantic, Gus must race to figure out Sara’s motive... before innocent people get hurt.

Thank you Netgalley and Severn River Publishing for allowing me to read this arc. This was a great story-it really kept me reading to see what was going on. It was a little weird that the way the story went echoed something that actually happened where I live though
The characters were good and I'm anxious to read the first book in the series (that I already have)! I look forward to continuing to read this series.

Gus Young, psychiatrist in a small town in Main, gets called to the hospital, a young woman was found in the outskirts of town, bloodied and no memories. An intriguing case, and if she gets send to the big town (Bangor) she most definitely will be medicated which Gus doesn’t think she needs. He takes her case, while working with her and certain events that take place, he discovered her name is Sara, and she just escaped from a cult, but not all is as it seems, people start believing her to be a prophet and somehow knowing their secrets and doing miracles, the race is on to save those he loves and the innocent bystanders.
This is the 2nd book in the series, because I didn’t read the first one it was a bit harder to get into the story at start, but once I connected the dots it was a race to keep the pages turning.
Thank you to Severn River Publishing and NetGalley for an early read in exchange of my opinion.

First up: this is the 2nd book in a series but you do not need to have read book #1 to follow this story.

Gus is a psychiatrist practicing in a small Maine town when he's called to the ER to consult with a new patient. She is bloodied and has no memory of what led to her injuries, or of anything that occurred prior to arriving at the hospital. Gus knows something unusual has taken place and his instincts lead him down an investigative path straight to a local religious compound.

I enjoyed the guessing game as I read trying to figure out the answers before they were revealed in the text. This was a nice, quick-paced read for me and I enjoyed the dynamics between the characters and the twisty plot.
