Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Kids for a free digital copy.

Walter just wants to be a good dog, but people don't seem to appreciate all the things he does. Maybe he is a bit on the wrong page. So cute and funny. The story itself is great but add in all the detailed and fun illustrations and it's amazing.

Poor Walter tries his best to be a good dog...and he really means well! Unfortunately his attempts to help usually go a bit sideways.

Lively illustrations depict Walter's misadventures humorously and kids will likely find lots to giggle at. Hopefully they will also absorb the message that it's important to try to be thoughtful, helpful, and kind when one can, even if things don't quite go as planned!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

This is an adorable little book about a dog who tries his best, but can't seem to do anything right. I think a lot of people can relate to that. I loved the illustrations and the Frenchie noise. As someone who has a French bulldog, I could definitely hear it out loud. I know this is a kid's book, but the ending wasn't really an ending. I would have liked to see Walter and his owner work together to get better. Don't put the blame on either party, but look at how could they work to solve the problems Walter causes. I think that executed without being too preachy would have been the perfect book.

This is definitely one that I'll be adding to my first grade classroom library!

Walter is an adventurous dog who unknowingly creates havoc but has only good intentions. Children will enjoy the important lessons that everyone makes mistakes and that kindness wins. The backdrop of New York City will appeal to my students who will undoubtedly recognize many landmarks in the vibrant illustrations.

Very cute story about a dog that just wants to be good and kind but doesn't seem to notice the havoc he tends to create. In the end, his owner gives him the assurance he needs. Sweet story with great illustrations!

Initial response: Such a cute book!

After thought: I enjoyed the book because it was adorable, plus the images help create a unique story in and of itself.

Walter is a very good dog but everyone he meets thinks otherwise. The illustrations humorously juxtapose Walter's vantage point from how the rest of the world really sees him. Pet owners with rambunctious dogs will definitely relate and kids will enjoy the humor of this little dog's tale. P.S. And anyone with a discerning eye will recognize that it's the owner who needs better training, and NOT Walter.

The subtitle of "Walter Does His Best" presents the book's plot succinctly: "A Frenchie Adventure In Kindness and Muddy Paws". Eva Pilgrim's story is about a small dog who wants two things: to be a good neighbor and to get to ride in a car. His attempts at being a good dog usually go awry, in scenarios illustrated humorously by Jessica Gibson. The setting of the story is a bustling NYC. Young readers should find lots to love in this sweet story of a plucky dog determined to help others and realize his dream.

Cute story about a dog who tries his best but just can't seem to get it right. Great illustrations enhance the text.

Walter is absolutely adorable! He tries so hard to do the right thing, and it doesn't always work out. But in the end, it's not his actions that make him loveable—it's Walter himself. I give this cute story 4/5 stars because it went on a bit too long for how simple the concept was. Still, a fun read with a good message!

A very cute and funny story about the day in the life of a Frenchie that just wants to be the best dog he can be.
My only issue is the part where they were at the theatre. Why is the lady all dressed up but Walter is obviously messy. Not consistent with her getting ready and still taking him too. Most Frenchie owners I know would have at least cleaned him up a bit and put something fancy on his harness or collar if they were going out fancy themselves. I know it's a children's book but my child noticed it too.

This was absolutely adorable! This is the story of Walter who thinks he’s doing what is best but learns that maybe his ideas weren’t the best for everyone else but that he was trying and that’s more than okay.

The art in this was so cute and super colorful! It really captured my attention and I know kids will love this silly story about the worlds cutest Frenchie! I recommend this honestly to everyone of any age. Especially if you love Frenchies as much as I do!

What an adorable story! This book is about a cute Frenchie who thinks he is trying his best to be kind and help others around him. In reality he is causing chaos but he doesn't know that. Reminds me of Curious George but in dog form. My toddler loved this story and I loved the message of helping your neighbors and community. I will be picking up a copy to read over and over again!

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for access to this ARC.

What a cute children's book! Poor Walter tries his best to be a good dog but he always seems to mess up. The illustrations are beautiful and so much to the story. My 3 year old great grand daughter loved it when I read it to her. I received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Walter's a dog who tries to be a good dog, however, it always seems to backfire (but he doesn’t realize it!) He works hard throughout the day to “do the right thing” and doesn’t feel like he is noticed. Until the end when he is rewarded. This was a cute book! I will definitely read this one in my classroom!

Walter the French bulldog narrates this humorous story of a dog who lives with his Asian American female owner in New York City. Walter is a dog that wants to be good but often misbehaves; for example, he doesn’t like walks, or when he tries to help, things often do not go as planned. The repeated phrase “I’m a good dog. Look at me!” makes this a great choice for storytime. Many younger children will relate to Walter’s attempts to help that ultimately fail, but he keeps trying. The delightful cartoonish artwork, which may have been done using acrylics
or digitally, adds humor as the reader sees Walter’s unintentional accidents such as knocking people down. The author is the weekend anchor for “Good Morning America”; she is likely the Korean-American owner depicted in the illustrations.

What a fun book! Like many children Walter tries hard to be a good boy but messes up a lot while trying to be kind. He is a dog, but is so very like a busy toddler! The story is good, and the illustrations are delightful! Excellent for reading with children and for ESL readers.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S, Thomas Nelson via NetGalley. Thank you!

This was an adorable picture book following a dog named Walter trying to do his best to be kind to his neighbors.

Walter kept trying to help, but being a dog he kept accidentally actually being completely unhelpful - it was funny to read. The illustrations were also really cute!

Walter is just a sweet and loving dog, and I loved the message that you can make mistakes and don’t have to be perfect to be kind.

Laugh out loud funny and I even teared up at the end. Walter is a good dog. 100% agree. Add to that the gorgeous illustrations and all of Walter's expressions, and you've got quite a gem here.

Go check out this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

In Walter Does His Best by Eva Pilgrim, Walter is a good dog, or at least he tries really hard to be. Kids will enjoy his misadventures - digging in the neighbor's garden, giving up his seat on the subway, helping ducks to cross the street - even though his owner certainly does not. As each of Walter's attempts to help go ever more and more awry, the illustrations and text get more outrageous, and more hilarious - the page where Walter tries to impress strangers with his repertoire of tricks got more than a few chuckles here, although, later on, my niblings agreed that bringing a dog to a musical is Not. A Good Idea. And after all of his exhausting efforts to help and be kind, how is Walter rewarded? With the most objectionable task ever - a bath?! How dare! But in the true story's end, Walter's owner does see the effort he's putting in, and he gets his well-deserved reward.

The book's best line is "Walter you don't have to be perfect to be kind. You don't even have to get it right all of the time." Showing kids that their efforts (which will hopefully be less chuckle-worthy than Walter's) have merit whether or not they manage to achieve their goal is an excellent moral.

Thankfully, it's expressed in a humorous manner that kids will laugh along with, and cheer when Walter gets his just desserts. It's cute, it's quick, and Walter is a fun loving, trying-hard kind of pup that I think will resonate with younger readers.  Also, the book is high on the onomatopoeia scale, which littles love: Every "fer-snertttt" and "ker plop!" is guaranteed to get a giggle. Walter Does His Best also shows off a bunch of New York tourist highlights, and has sneaky little city details (and it's not populated by all white faces, which is a nice touch of realism), so if you like books that show off the city that never sleeps, you should add this one to your list as well.

My copy of #WalterDoesHisBest was provided for free & honest review via Netgalley, but it's available at bookstores near you already, so you can grab it if you want it.

🐶 Walter Does His Best: A Frenchie Adventure in Kindness and Muddy Paws 🐶

Water is a French bulldog who comes across a dog in a car while on a walk and he is determined to be a good dog and enjoy the benefits of it. So Walter starts helping or so he thinks. Messes seem to follow him wherever he goes no matter how hard he tries nothing goes as planned.

What Walter soon realizes is “you don’t have to be perfect to be kind.”

Kindness comes in so many ways.

This is an adorable story featuring a lovable dog, Walter, who just keeps getting into all kinds of messes, even when it's unintentional. Kids will totally be able to relate to his good intentions, while laughing at all the silly things that happen. I love the take-home message that being loved means it's okay to make mistakes, and you're still loved. Illustrations are lovely, balanced well with the typography so that it's never difficult to read the text.

Walter is a loveable French bulldog who will capture your heart. He lives with his mommy in New York City. He loves to sleep, eat and really, really loves his treats. Does he like exercise? For-Snerrt... NO!

He tries to be kind and good, he really does, but somehow things always seem to turn into a disaster. Poor Walter will his kind heart finally be exposed through all the chaos?

This hardcover gem harbours illustrations that are full of expression, activity and hilarity. Kids will fall more and more in love with Walter as each page is turned. "Walter Does His Best": encourages kids to look for opportunities to be kind in their world, appeals to kids' enjoyment of animals, celebrates authors of colour, can be read aloud for story time (which groups will love) or read independently, introduces kids to New York City landmarks in a fun, colourful way and affirms that everyone makes mistakes!

Walter invites kids into his adventures and learns a very valuable life lesson. Shared kindness is important and should be distributed to others each and every day. I love the book and highly recommend it.

If you have a dog or have ever had a dog, you're going to laugh as you read Walter Does His Best. Eva Pilgrim, the owner of a French Bulldog, writes an honest and hilarious book about how a dog shows kindness to others. You're in for a treat as you discover that your dog may be doing some of the same things that Walter does.

Walter observes the world with a heart of love and is excited to go on a walk with his owner. His owner loves him and takes him many places where he finds opportunities to help others. His interactions with people make him happy. After performing each helpful task Walter feels that he is a very good dog. But does his owner feel the same way?

This book is fun and lighthearted. Walter is a happy, adorable dog and there is truth to his canine adventures. Kids (including adults who love dogs) will love this book. Walter Does his Best will capture the attention of children and they will want to look at the illustrations over and over again. My grandchildren loved this book so it gets a five star rating from me.

If you are a dog lover then you will love this cute Frenchie Adventure in Kindness and Muddy Paws book featuring Walter who does his best. This cute tale introduces us to Walter who just loves people and tries to be helpful. However, unfortunately, when Walter tries to be helpful, he just gets in the way of others and ends up making things worst. Poor Walter :(. In the end though, despite our little mistakes, good things can come out from them. This book was also a fun way to check out the city of New York as we have spots like the Broadway Theatre, Rockefeller Centre, and the subways. Reading and seeing the parts of New York come to life on the pages, brought back good memories of my trip which we spent a week in New York/Times Square. Jessica Gibson also did amazing with the illustrations as Walter Does His Best is a colorful story and features characters of all races. Walter Does His Best is suitable for children aged 3-6 years old.
