Description

Nikai Parker seems to have lost it all: her relationship, an unborn child and the respect of her immediate family. However, the night she unexpectedly meets Robert, a tall, sexy firefighter, the trajectory of her entire life shifts.

Neither of them anticipate love, so when the devastation of heartache, exes who refuse to bow out gracefully and family secrets unfold, they find that holding on to one another can be more damaging than the simple act of letting go.

This riveting double-narrative is an often hilarious and heart-wrenching reminder of what happens when the search for a soulmate leads us back to one's first true love: ourselves.

This was a great book! I loved the drama and how the characters were easy to connect to. I felt that the relationship between the two characters was realistic and heartfelt. I recommend this book. The drama was so good, I couldn't put this book down.

Whew, so it took me a moment to get into this book since it is not normally my cup of tea. But after reading it for a little bit I enjoyed it. It is funny, I loved the relationship between Nikai and her neighbor (of course the name has disappeared memory.) There is so much drama in the book, which I was quite prepared for, given the cover illustration, but it was not a fairy tale ending, which I enjoyed that. I was not happy about the ending but, it gives it was something that was coming and honestly, I saw it coming.

Someone to Catch My Drift is a romantic drama about Nikai and Robert. We are introduced to Nikai whose life seems to be falling apart when her boyfriend get’s arrested for statutory rape leading her to abort his child. Life’s not worth living after that but she soon gets back to loving part of herself when she meets Robert, a fire fighter who has issues with commitments. Robert is no saint and is caught up in problems of his own like ‘’Situanships’’ with the crazy Karen who traps him with a baby.

Things soon turn from blissful to nightmare when their relationship hits the rocks and are unable to fall apart and come back together. We soon realise that they were not brought together to be forever but to learn from each other. Their lives in general were falling apart to get back together. They were on a journey of self -discovery through each other’s eyes, only sad that there had to be causalities on the way. While this is a romance novel, it clearly urges readers to focus on the self not neglecting your whole being in favour of trying to please others. The book contains various themes like Family, Love, Death, and Spirituality. I enjoyed reading the book however found it tedious with numerous mistakes in grammar.

Although this book felt a little long, I really thinks it still resonates today. I think a lot of women are like Nikai (the story is set in the late 90's I believe) and there are some women that unfortunately still have to deal with situations like this. I felt so bad for Nikai, and truthfully, Robert can kick rocks. ( I am not a fan of his at all from the beginning of the book until the end.) Nikai's growth was great in this story, and I enjoyed the flow of the story as well as the storyline of the book.

I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
