The Unicorn and the Wild Horses

A picture book with gorgeous illustrations and a kind story.

If you look different, don't feel bad about it. Instead, make the most of being unique and having special skills. It's an important message especially for children.
There is just enough text on each page for my 4-year-old, and the drawings are absolutely lovely. I will check the other books in this series.

This is a sweet story about a Unicorn who feels like she does not belong with her herd of horses. They tease her saying she is different and then one night she dreams that she is with her real herd of Unicorns. She wants to stay with them but they tell her her horse family needs her as they are in trouble and stuck in the snow. She ends up helping them and they apologize for being mean to her. It is a good lesson of how bullying can affect your well being. I think it would be good to show younger kids how words can hurt. The illustration was beautiful and really helped to convey the story.

Having 3 grandchildren ranging in age from 1.5 - 4 years means I've been reading and reviewing more children's books. (Thanks #NetGalley !) The Unicorn and the Wild Horses is part of a beautifully illustrated series of children's books. I would say the age range would be about 4 - 7. In this book, Luna the unicorn joins a herd of wild horses after she arrives in a flurry of shooting stars. Not all of the horses want her to stay but she is encouraged is encouraged by a few. The rest of the herd teases her for being different, mskes fun I f her hirn. She never really feels like she belongs. One day she wanders off as the rest of the herd goes in search of food. Luna falls asleep and has a dream. In her dream she is with other unicorns and they explain to her why she is so special. Then they show her that her herd of horses is in trouble. Luna must use her special magical powers to save her herd! The rest of the herd sees Luna in a new light. Now they understand that being different and unique is OK, it's even good! Luna finally feels like she belongs. She spends the days with her horse herd and her nights with her new unicorn friends. Such a sweet story with a lovely lesson. The story and the illustrations are a great tool for launching discussion.

I read this book to my 7 year old horse man daughter who really liked the book. This review is all her words and feelings on the book. She liked the book and the pictures but she thought the unicorn needed more colour. She liked the story and when they all became friends but she didn't like that the herd was mean to luna.

The Unicorn and the Wild Horses by Claire Philip is a cute book for young readers. My daughter loved that Luna found her true herd. I enjoyed the story and the idea that the horses came to accept Luna. The book has beautiful artwork.

The Unicorn and the Wild Horses is a children's book about finding your own strengths and confidence within yourself. It's kind of reminded me of a non-Christmas version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I think this book could be very inspirational for children 5-8.

Wonderful, beautiful, great story for children. Want to purchase for my niece and nephew.

Moral of the story is that there is a benefit to being different (and kind/helpful).

The illustrations were so lovely. I would have loved this book as a child and I probably would still have it in my library ... 45 years later.

Luna the unicorn is having trouble fitting in with the herd of wild horses she's a part of. They tease her and make her feel left out, and she longs to feel like she belongs. After a visit to a magical place filled with other unicorns, Luna learns that the things that make her feel different actually make her special and can help her herd when they need it most. This story of acceptance and other important social-emotional learning concepts is presented through charming text and beautiful illustrations.
A lovely read. My daughters loved it. They loved the pictures. 5*.

Such a cute book. I loved so much about it. Cute art! The story held my daughter's attention from beginning to end and my unicorn-obsessed girl loved the book "The Unicorn and the Wild Horses". I liked that there was a lesson to be learned, but my personal favorite was that the unicorn was able to find other unicorns (even if only in her dreams) to feel included. This is definitely a book that I would add to our personal library and recommend to all my friends!

3.5 stars-THE UNICORN AND THE WILD HORSES by Claire Phillips is a children’s book focusing on Luna the unicorn, and how she is rejected and bulllied by the herd of horses with whom she lives.

Luna is a unicorn but doesn’t know it until a dream brings Luna up close and personal with other unicorns who explain to Luna about her special powers. When Luna asks if she can live with the unicorns because the wild horses do not treat her very well, the other unicorns tell Luna her place is with the herd, a herd she is bound to protect during the day but she may visit the unicorns in her dreams at night.

THE UNICORN AND THE WILD HORSES is a quick read that reminds me of Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer in that he too was rejected because he looked different than everyone else. It was not until he was able to save Christmas was Rudolph accepted by the other reindeer, and in this, Luna is not accepted until she is able to save the wild horses from themselves. The images are simple yet colorful; the text is clean and uncomplicated.

This was a very cute book. Perfect for children who express a love of horses and/or unicorns.hares a sweet story about finding your place and gaining confidence in yourself.

A unicorn doesn't understand why her family, a herd of horses, are not very nice to her. One day she falls asleep and dreams of a magical place where she sees other unicorns just like her. She feels like she finally has found her family. But these unicorns tell her that her horse family needs her help and she must return to them. The unicorn is torn with her feelings - should she help the horses that are mean to her or stay with her new unicorn family?

I thought this was a cute read with a teaching moment about how feelings can get hurt by unkind words and actions. The unicorn wants to understand why she should help the horses when they have not been nice to her. My six year old daughter enjoyed this story and illustrations as she loves unicorns.

This charming short tale provides us with a young unicorn teased by her herd of wild horses, for being different. Young readers who are learning to read a book by themselves will appreciate the lively illustrations. Making someone feel different or alone, isn't a good way to behave, and another animal like a wolf or bear might have gone off by itself, but equines of course need to live in herds. At the end we see that the unicorn with her individual gifts, comes to be appreciated and gains friends.

3.5 stars rounded down: Claire Philip has penned another unicorn story, but with new characters. Luna the Unicorn is living with a pack of wild horses. She is different from them and they tease her about those differences. At night she travels to a magical place and meets other unicorns who are like her. She wants to stay with them, but they let her know that her differences make her special and that she can use them to help her herd who are in trouble. My granddaughter did not enjoy this story as much as The Unicorn and the Lost Cat, perhaps because there was no little girl in this one. This was a cute read with a moral about acceptance, hurtful words and being different makes you special. We talked about those issues after reading the story and I was pleased that she easily understood the message. Once again, her brother listened, read a few words and claimed it to be "a girl's book" which surprised me as he has been raised in a gender neutral home. The illustrations were cute, pastel images that showed emotion and added to the story.

I loved the illustrations that were included in this book. They really helped bring the story alive. This book is great for any magical unicorn fans.

Was finally able to read this, I got it from Hoopla through my local library. I thought it was very cute and my 9 yr old (who loves unicorns) really enjoyed it.

The Unicorn and the Wild Horses is a lovely rhyming picture book for children with a great moral to learn.
Luna is a Unicorn who lives with a herd of horses. Luna doesn't know that she is a Unicorn and different from them. She gets bullied and rejected by the horses for being different to them and she doesn't understand why. Then one night she had a dream where she meets others like herself (unicorns) and they explain to her why she is different and about her magical abilities that she has and hasn't discovered yet. Luna longs to be with the other unicorns but they explain she must stay with the herd she lives with and keep them safe. She visits her Unicorn friends in her dreams instead. Luna becomes the hero of the story at the end of the book by saving and protecting her horse family and is finally accepted for who she is. This is a great book to teach children that we may sometimes be a part of a group or place in life where we don't quire fit in - we may look different, have different interests etc but if we stay true to ourselves people will get to know us for who we are and acceptance will often follow.

Me and my children read this book. With the unicorn character within. It's about a unicorn that lost her way home. She decides to look around and finds a way home. But on her way she meets different things.

This story was okay the copy that I got was a little bit jumbled but we found out what happened in the end. The illustrations were colorful and went well with the story.
