Little People, Big Dreams are firm favourites in my KS2 class. I had not heard of Gloria Steinem prior to reading this book and I will be researching her further. The book has beautiful, enhancing illustrations, a bit different from the complement of illustrators that feature in this series. They definitely add a 'difference'' to the story and complement it well - they fit in beautifully with the topic of a leading feminist activist.

I love the brightness and positivity of the book and the timeline at the rear of the book helps to encapsulate the story.

Okay first off- SUPER cute. Cute illustrations, simple pages for id day age 4-9 to understand. Fairly cheeky- (she researched as a “bunny”). I found this book to be one we will add to our historical figure shelves. As a homeschool mama that doesn’t like sugarcoating history- I appreciated this one a lot.

Little People, Big Dreams Gloria Steinem… This may be my favorite book in the series for the illustrations! A favorite series of excellent educational books for young readers. The illustrations are great for the younger Kiddo's, the information is relevant for a range of ages & sparks excellent conversation. The timelines in the back of the books are great. No matter the age, everyone will learn something by reading these books ❤

I've read several of these books and this is one of my favorites. This is a perfect way to introduce how some fight for change to fight inequities. The book is filled with gorgeous illustrations and easy-to-understand text!

Here is another excellent biography for kids. This time readers will learn about how young Gloria Steinem became a well-known and capable advocate for women’s rights.

Even adults may learn some things about Gloria that they did not know. For example, for many years, she and her family lived in a trailer and traveled. This all changed when Gloria was ten and her parents divorced. It was after this that young Gloria was exposed to the ways in which boys and girls were treated differently. This was not okay! Gloria’s life purpose became to stand up for women. She became a journalist and went on from there. Her contributions to feminism are now well-known.

The illustrations in this title are lovely and evocative. They add to the enjoyment of the book. All in all, this is another excellent entry in a series that invites children to aspire. As always, there are sections of additional information at the end of the book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This little book tells the story of Gloria Steinem, who's considered the world's most famous feminist. Her work and life are truly inspirational!

We love these books. What an important book on a very important person. This gives children enough information without being so overwhelming.

Thank you NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a really cute and educational book about the life of Gloria Steinem! Steinem is one of my biggest inspirations and I think it’s great that you guys have written a book to teach more children about her and her life’s work.

However, my one complaint about the book is that I’m not sure the page about the “bunny” is appropriate for such young kids… it could possibly bring up unwanted questions about the meaning behind it. I really enjoyed everything else though, including the super cute artwork, and I like the areas that were highlighted about her life in the book. I also really liked that you included actual pictures of her at the end and a timeline of her life.

I am a huge fan of Gloria Steinem - such an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service. Especially the service of furthering women and their rights.
This is a great introduction to her life - her family background, inspiration to take on the plight of women's rights - or lack of, as her calling.
Gloria became a journalist - experienced sexism in the work place. But that wasn't enough for Gloria - she went out and experienced sexual harassment as a server in a male club. Her strength allowed her to build a magazine focusing on women - and it was successful.
Gloria pushed the women's agenda - in society, in politics, in life. This is a great overview.

Yet another great addition to this "Little People, BIG DREAMS" series! The detailed, colorful illustrations are really appropriate to telling the story of Steinem's life....a nice compliment to the text, which is informative even at a child's level. I really like this series, & must admit that even this 62 y/o learned something about Steinem that I didn't know! This is a great book for any library!

Another fabulous book in the collection! Firstly I want to mention the illustrations - as always they were gorgeous and I adore the representation and bright colours! I’ve never heard of Gloria Steinem (how I don’t know) so it was amazing to learn about her. Honestly how awesome is she! I love that her grandmother was a suffragist and Gloria is such a huge voice in feminism/women’s liberation. And founding the Women’s Media Centre with Jane Fonda - what a badass! Such a great model for children and a way to teach them feminism/equal rights as they grow. The final message actually bought a tear to my eye: “it doesn’t matter what gender gosh are, what matters is that your dream is only yours to determine”. A perfect addition to the collection; here’s to future feminists and a better world.

Amazing! I love this series and its focus on telling the story of feminist role models in a way that’s appropriate for young audiences. The illustrations were beautiful and moved the story forward. I loved learning more about Gloria Steinem, and I’m sure many other people and their children will too.

I love this series and how each page has 4 lines. The illustrated part of the book gives essential information of the person's life and then there is a detailed 2 page spread at the back that gives even more information. All information is presented in a kid-friendly way. I can't wait to see what else this series has to offer.

I enjoyed this kid friendly biography of Gloria Steinem. As a mom to a little girl I want to teach her about strong women in history. This book does just that! It's written in a way that any child could follow the information and digest it. The illustrations are fun and colorful. Overall I really liked the book and look forward to adding it to my daughters library.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Even though this book is aimed at children, I had the BEST TIME reading this as an adult. The message is wonderful and inspiring, but the illustrations really complete the package. Seeing a child Gloria Steinem in her signature glasses really tickled me! And mentioned that she "dressed as a bunny" to learn more about women's working conditions made me laugh out loud. I can't wait to read more of the series! I highly recommend this book!

A timely and much needed reminder of the need to stand up for people's rights. Sanchez Vegara shares Gloria Steinem's life with younger readers. She emphasizes Steinem's passion for and commitment to women's lives. The text brings readers from her childhood through her long career. Her willingness to research and report on a wide variety of issues is emphasized and helps readers see how changes can be made by individuals.

Great book that showcases the history of feminism and Gloria’s achievements toward making it accessible to all women. Spending her life speaking for women’s rights! Also she continued her journey as she aged. It shows you are ever too young or too old to make a difference!

I really enjoy the "Little People BIG DREAMS" series because you can quickly learn a lot about some great people.  This particular book is about Gloria Steinem, who as a little girl realized that she was treated a certain way just for being female.  Gloria is now the world's most famous feminist.  Gloria from a young age realized that women and men should be able to do the same things - and maybe even together.  Once she moved to NY, she found she fit in more and worked hard to have a job and support women.  Gloria teaches us that it doesn't matter what gender you are, what matters is your dream is only yours to determine.

I love how each book ends with a lesson for the young readers (or not so young, in my case) and helps them think about things.  I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.

Gloria Steinem is the newest lead in this latest edition of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This series is such a delight and the perfect way to educate not just kids but everyone about historic and cultural icons.

Gloria Steinem is an American feminist journalist and social political activist who became nationally recognized as a leader and a spokeswoman for the American feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The book follows Steinem as her early work as a journalist to her work for the women's liberation movement.

Lucila Perini illustrates this installment and does a fantastic job. Pereni's art style was so captivating and her art definitely further helped tell Steinem's story. I love collecting these books and am so thrilled to add this one to the rest of my collection.

Received from NetGalley for review.

Gloria Steinem was an inspiration to women fighting for their rights and freedoms. I loved this short book that doesn’t have to be just for kids. I got the cliff notes version of her story and it inspires us adults to educate ourselves more.

Adding this to my future library collection!

Yes! I have been looking for a good way to introduce my young son and daughter to the powerhouse who is Gloria Steinem. We tried the “Who Is” series about Steinem and while that was well done, it went into a little too much detail about certain subjects that I just wasn’t quite ready to tackle with my young kids. Little People Big Dreams: Gloria Steinem hits it just right for young children! In addition to a succinct yet impactful storyline, the pictures portray the nuances of Steinem’s work and legacy, genius in a children’s book as kids tend to study the pictures intently. I also appreciate the more in depth timeline at the end of the book for older listeners. My kids really enjoyed this and I was so excited to introduce them to one of my heroes. I hope that learning about women in history who paved the way for those who came after plants a seed to inspire them to pick up the torch and carry on the mission when it’s their turn.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Groups - Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the ARC.

Another strong presence to inspire children, Gloria Steinem has become a part of the Little People, Big Dreams series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. It explains terms in an age-appropriate way to inspire and motivate our little learners. The details are my favorite part of this series, such an easy book to take and build a small study because of the great use of vocabulary and impactful history.

I always enjoy reading the Little People Big Dreams book and Gloria Steinem’s was not exception. It had great illustrations and it made me laugh when they said she did research as a “bunny”. I’m glad the truth was told even if it brings up questions from kids.

Overall great book! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book.

Any time I review a children's book, I get the input of the children in my life as I think their opinions of books created for them matter more than my opinion. I'm a babysitter and run the children and teen comic book club at my local library. During club meetings, we've discussed the importance of picture books as they're often our first steps into reading. The kids found it interesting when I said picture books can be seen as a form of a comic book. Essentially they're both the art of storytelling through pictures and words.

Throughout the year, we focus strongly on diversity. With that comes the kids learning about historic figures and events they wouldn't otherwise learn about through our public school system. By introducing the idea that picture books and comic books are a part of the same bookish family they've said that the best route of finding historic events and figures to discuss more thoroughly is through reading picture books first. Picture books enhance their need for constant discovery. It's a taste of the stories they want to read and a glimpse at the lives that inspire them.

Today I asked if any of them knew who Gloria Steinem was. With the kids I babysit, none of them knew who she was. At the library club, a couple of kids recognized the name from the books they read on their own, but most didn't know her. We read this book out loud and they all had questions, including what the bunnies were... that was an umm... interesting discussion to tiptoe around as there are certain rules and policies in place I have to keep in mind during all of our discussions. Overall, the kids enjoyed the art, and most wanted to learn more about Gloria.

After we read in the club, we always do a private rating with a 0-5 star scale, with half points included. The average score was 4 stars, and everyone felt comfortable with keeping that score. (Sometimes, if there are vastly different views of a book, they'll debate if a book should be raised or lower half a star) The kids I babysit raise their hands if they like a book and keep them down if they didn't like the book. All but one raised their hands. The only grievance that kid had was that some of the noses looked weird.

We're in a state that's currently banning books. The books being targeted are largely by and about people of color, marginalized religions, the lgbtq+ community, and feminism. I wasn't aware of the "Little People Big Deams" series before seeing this and the Amanda Gorman book on NetGalley, but, with nearly 100 books out now, it's for sure going to be something we add to our club.

This is a fun introduction to one of the many women who have paved the way towards gender equality. The art is modern yet perfectly emphasizes the aesthetics of the past 80 years. Feminist or not, this is an important book for historical representation.

From a young girl who sees gender inequality, and fight for it, Gloria Steinem is one woman with a vision, therefore she has this great force to pursue her mission. Although I've never heard of her, but her story is so interesting and motivating. A must have book!

An advanced copy of this book was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review- Thank you!

What worked:
The illustrations were so charming and full of little "Easter Eggs" to correlate to the part of the story.
The author presents the story in chronological order, supplemented by short paragraphs at the end of the book to tie up loose ends.
Cheeky Phrases/high brow humor, especially in regards to spending "10 days dressed as a bunny" where the illustration protrayed her with rabbit ears and a bow tie.

What didn't work:
The story seems to graze over several decades of Gloria Steinem's work and generalize her work as "women's rights/feminism".
I would have loved if the story outlined the policies/groups that are currently in place that are a direct result of her efforts.

Overall, well done! I enjoyed this piece of art and look forward to reading more!

I think that it is great how Little People, Big Dreams series include modern people for their biographies. Gloria Steinem was part of the feminist movement in the 70s and onward. And to this day Gloria Steinem is still fighting for all women's rights.

The Little People Big Dreams series is one of my favorites in children's nonfiction and the Gloria Steinem book is a lovely continuation of the books. This book filled with fun and bright illustrations of the journalist and feminist icon's life- from her upbringing and things that shaped her to the inspirational woman she became. I learned a lot about Steinem's life, even as an adult, and think this would be great for teaching about the feminist movement for kids.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

Gloria Steinem really did much to change the world. I found it interesting to learn that when she was a young child, she did not go to regular school and the family traveled from place to place in their trailer. So, when Gloria was 10 and starts going to regular school, she realizes how girls dreams for the future are treated differently then boys.

She had allows wanted to be a journalist. At the time, boys were encouraged to study and get a job and women were encouraged to marry and have children. This felt very restrictive to Gloria. Even during college this was going on. She finally decides to write many articles and women respond to her. She is so popular she starts her own magazine. Many things that girls now take for granted weren’t available then. Women could not even get a credit card in their own name unless married. She fought for equal pay, marriage equality, and equal rights for women.

She did not think it was your gender that mattered, it was your dreams and determination that should decide how you do in life. So, this is a very important message for young girls, but boys as well. If a child thinks there is some sort of unfair treatment, they can use their voice and ask for the needed change. It can then happen. That is the message of Gloria Steinem’s life. This is recommended reading for Elementary Age children and think these books belong in schools and libraries so all children can access them. The pictures done by Lucila Perini added much to this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for a copy of this wonderful book. The Little People, Big Dream Series is wonderful.

As always Little People, Big Dreams cannot fail. From the beautiful, colourful illustrations that really set the hippie, flower child vibe, to the unending feminist message, I love this series.

I did not know anything about Gloria Steinem, so I was learning about her for the first time. This book simplifies the life of this figure in a perfectly child-friendly way, and with easy to read language. I always appreciate the fine print at the end of the book, and a list of references for older kids or parents should they choose to read more in depth.

If your child is an aspiring reporter, or if they feel like life is unfair, and the scales are not quite tilted in their favour, this is a great book for them. For moms who want to raise a little Rory Gilmore, this is your daughter’s book series.
