Description

The Isle of Sheppey. The discovery of a wounded, unconscious man left for dead sets in motion a series of events where mistakes once thought buried in the past are forced to the surface. With lethal results.

Persuaded to take one last job, ex-criminal Brendan Quinn is betrayed and left for dead.

Now Quinn is on a mission for revenge, finding himself at the centre of a conspiracy stretching back into a past he’d tried to forget.

Forced to be a fugitive from an all-powerful crime family, running from men who he once worked alongside, Quinn must draw on all his skills and resources to not only stay alive, but also unravel the mystery of why he was gunned down by his own team, and what the connection is to his own brother’s death, years before.

Burning Bridges is the explosive new thriller from Matthew Ross, the author of Death of a Painter and The Red Admiral’s Secret.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

This is my first read by Matthew Ross, I thought the premise looked like my kind of read so I began reading not knowing quite what to expect. I have to say I really enjoyed this book, it had a very thrilling start that just grabbed my attention and made me want to continue reading. I think the author has created a strong, likeable, believable and very down to earth character in Quinn and I was rooting for him all the way through. When he is asked to take part in a job it has consequences he never expected. This is a very well written and engaging book with a good plot line. I enjoyed how the timeline moved backwards and forwards so easily and how the author gave glimpses into Quinn’s history and how it has shaped him. I loved the many different story threads which all began to make sense and come together as the book progressed. McLean is a wonderful secondary character who I couldn’t help but like and the perfect foil for Quinn. This is quite an action packed read, with lots going on and is about revenge and family loyalty. I’ve read this in just over a day - overall I found it to be a very entertaining and absorbing read and I hope there is a second book featuring Quinn and McLaren. I’d recommend this if you like the crime genre and I see the author has two other books out which I will definitely find time to read when I can.
