Description

Helen Winters worries the walls are closing in. With her children grown and her husband literally climbing Mt. Everest on her fiftieth birthday, she regrets not taking the more daring paths she dreamed about in her youth. So when a well-meaning birthday gift reveals a depressing image of her future, she takes a leap of faith and jets off to Cyprus for a vacation  with her two lifelong friends.

Basking in the glorious sunshine and crystal-blue waters while enjoying the attention of handsome European men, Helen starts to feel truly alive. But one of her best friends isn't in Cyprus for the sunshine and when Helen learns the true reason, tensions threaten their lifelong bond leaving Helen to wonder if she shake off  years of disappointment and claim her well deserved happiness.

A Midlife Holiday is the affirming first tale in the Midlife Trilogy women's fiction series. If you like vivacious heroines, relatable humour and re-awakenings of the spirit, then you'll love Cary's nuanced take on ageing with attitude.

Advance Praise

“I haven’t devoured a book in one sitting for a long time but I literally could not put this down. It shouldn’t be so rare (or refreshing) to read about the lives of middle-aged women, but it is. Cary J Hansson handles her subject matter with authenticity, providing some seldom heard (yet much-needed) commentary on midlife. The book is compulsively readable. It made me laugh and provided much food for thought. Any woman entering (or rapidly approaching) her fifth decade on this planet will find much to identify with here. ‘A Midlife Holiday’ is funny, brutally honest, extremely relatable and a perfect summer read." SouthAsia Magazine

loved this novel. It’s beautifully written and deeply truthful.

Definitely my favourite book this year. Funny, touching, richly described and so captivating I was transported to Cyprus with my new-found friends, Kay, Helen and Caro. It deserves to be a best-seller.

Kerena Swan Award winning author of Scared to Breathe

A well written, page-turning tale of loss and awakening with engaging characters and hilarious moments. I can’t wait to read the next.

A highly enjoyable read, if at times thought provoking, about three friends who go on holiday to Cyprus. A easy read on the surface but one which makes you think seriously about the role of a woman as she ages, how easy it is to get lost along the way and give up on your dreams and ambitions in favour of pleasing your family.
Probably a book best appreciated by women who are familiar with the situation and can then appreciate the wit and the regrets all the more.
I would be interested in reading the second book in the series if it is published.

A midlife holiday is a funny totally relatable read that I loved from start to finish!
Three middle aged women who are juggling careers, relationships, children, elderly parents and all whilst being of a certain age!
Caro invites good friends Helen and Kay away on holiday with her as she needs female friendship and company for what she is about to endure! Helen and Kay also have there own reasons for needing a complete break from the life they have at home, over the course of the holiday we see kay catching up on well earned sleep,Caro proceeding with her controversial plans and Helen finding a love of sailing and rediscovering the joy of lust and intimacy !
A great read that I didn’t want to end !
Thank you netgalley for this early read,4

I absolutely loved this book. It’s just beautiful and has such a genuine truth in the story. It’s a story based on friendship but has so much more. I was left needing to know more about the three friends so am really happy that this is part one of a trilogy. I can’t wait for the next books. I think women of a similar age to the characters will really “get” this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

I absolutely loved this caper about three university friends, now in their 50s., who travel out to Cyprus on holiday. For each of them the experience is life changing, putting life into perspective. Three individuals, whose characters and lives although very different, have remained best friends since their university days. The story goes deeper than relationships; it’s more about what each one of us wants out of life but are often not brave enough to face, and take a decision to make the changes happen. The characters are unforgettable, each with their own strengths and failures. And … Wow! What a climax! Brilliant - charming - totally engrossing and captivating. Well done Ms Hanson, this is excellent storytelling.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Hansson Publishing for this advance copy.

A deeply heartfelt comment on menopausal women and their place in society today!
The book is based around three friends that have remained loyal to each other since their time at university. Helen, Caro and Katy are getting together for Helen's 50th birthday for lunch!! Their lives have taken very different directions, and with the menopause thrown in, unexpected sparks fly!
Very enjoyable tale, with fun, passion and serious issues. The relationships between the three are brilliantly depicted. Possibly a bit too real in places!! Menopause can be cruel!!
Thank you NetGalley for the early read!! Very enjoyable!!

Three lifelong friends take a holiday in Cyprus in a quest to find both meaning and adventure in the second half of their lives. There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed this book. It’s a story of much more than friendship. I always feel a good book is one where the characters become people you are invested in and this is one of those books.
A Midlife Holiday is the first in the Midlife Trilogy and I can't wait to read the other two!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
