Description

Travel agent Campbell Hale's first boyfriend is back in Nashville for their high-school reunion - but murder, rather than love, is in the air . . .

"Fans of Diane Mott Davidson and Donna Andrews will enjoy this new series" - Booklist

Travel agent Campbell Hale might be flying solo at her twentieth-year school reunion, but that doesn't mean she's looking for love. Her almost boyfriend, homicide detective Sam Davis, has stood her up, with the terrible excuse that he has a murder to investigate.

So when she runs into her high-school sweetheart, Franklin "Fly" Young, who makes a point of telling her his marriage is in trouble, she's not interested - but she can't help but feel nostalgic. And more to the point, Fly is now a tech millionaire, and he has good news: he'd like her to take on his company's travel account.

But then Campbell discovers the identity of Detective Davis' murder victim: Fly's company accountant. Was his death connected to the company, or is it a terrible coincidence? Soon Campbell is caught up in a nightmare - with her whole life on the line . . .

As well as being a twisty, tightly plotted mystery, with a warm-hearted, witty and loveable protagonist, FLYIN' SOLO is a wonderful read for anyone who's ever felt nostalgic for their first love.

Nostalgic Feelings Abound…
The third Nashville mystery finds Campbell Hale at her high school reunion. Stood up by Sam, she’s flying solo but definitely not looking for love - despite the appearance of old boyfriend, Fly. Nostalgic feelings abound however and there’s not much she can do about that. Fly is definitely a catch these days. She soon discovers that Sam is investigating a murder which turns outs to be linked to Fly. In fact, it’s Fly’s company accountant that’s the victim. Coincidence? Or not. A fun and frothy mystery, well crafted, warm hearted and well plotted with a delightful protagonist and an eclectic cast.

Flyin’ Solo by Peggy O’Neal Peden was delightful! I’m a Nashville native and it was so fun seeing my hometown as the main setting for this mystery. I say main as the main character, Campbell, is a travel agent and spends time in her hometown, Miami and the Bahamas in this book. It was a quick read and although it’s not the first in the series I was able to follow along with no issues.

The author did a great job in staging this well-honed mystery with enough intrigue that kept me immersed in all that was happening. A murder and a missing person are at the forefront in the telling of this tale. How Campbell fits in, let’s just say Campbell is as Campbell does which brings about mischief and mayhem. The narrative was visually descriptive with dialogue that moved the story forward. I like how the story was told keeping me guessing and when I thought I knew what was going on, the author changed direction all to better my reading pleasure. Overall, I enjoyed this book and hope there is a fourth one coming.

I received this ARC via Netgalley and Severn House, in return for an honest review. While the third book in this series, it is easily read as a standalone. High school reunions are tough, particularly when your significant other isn’t attending to help alleviate issues. When your hugely successful high-school sweetheart attends and wants your business expertise, things get challenging. Campbell Hale is navigating her way through all this when she learns her detective boyfriend is investigating the death of the high-school sweetheart’s accountant and things are fishy. Campbell’s situation puts her in the right place but possibly wrong time to solve the murder and resolve the triangle.

A second chance romance? A murder mystery? Campbell, a travel agent, hasn't seen Fly, her high school boyfriend in years and years, They reconnect at their high school reunion and then Fly offers her a job with his company. Funny thing, though, Campbell's boyfriend Sam didn't go with her to the party because he's investigating a murder at....Fly's company! Did Fly kill his accountant? If he didn't who did, and why? This is a light cozy mystery in a delightful setting. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This might be the third in the series but it was the first one for me and it was a fine standalone.

Flyin’ Solo by Peg O’Neal Peden opens with Campbell Hale reconnecting at her high school reunion with her old boyfriend. Franklin “Fly” Young has done well for himself and hires Campbell to handle all of the travel for his company through her travel agency. Is there still a spark? Fly is married and Campbell “may be” in a relationship, so she keeps things purely professional.

Campbell learns that the accountant for Fly’s company was murdered but it seems just an unfortunate occurrence until Fly disappears while sailing. The body count starts to go up and Campbell seems to have a stalker. This is a taut, action-packed whodunit that will keep you turning the pages. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.). I’m already looking forward to the next in this series.
