Description

Life in suburbia is typical and ordinary-just the same old same old. Only, not in this neighborhood. Here, the impressively large homes and pure green lawns hide a much darker reality that is far from mundane.

When Beth moves back to her hometown in Connecticut to care for her ailing mother, she is forced to confront not only the ghosts of her youth but the other mothers on her street. There is Elise, the queen bee, who determines the fate of everyone and is all-controlling. There is Kelly, Elise's sidekick and most sycophantic supporter, who secretly longs to have a voice and power of her own. There's Ronnie, the informer, who, with her intelligence and investigative skill, digs up dirt on the others in service to the queen. And then there's Gail, the wannabe, who is constantly striving to feel as important and valued as the others.

Looking for some mom friends, Beth seeks a place for herself within this mommy clique. Turns out they do have an available role for her: it's called the target.

Not your average mom group story. This one focuses on the Moms as women and wives and slightly on the mom aspect. It brings into question the relationship women have with each other and how far some are willing to go to be liked by the “right” person.

Beth moves back to her hometown to take care of her ailing mother. She has no idea what else she is getting into. Elise is a mom who basically all the other mothers flock to - they gossip and do whatever they have to to be a part of Elise’s clique.

As a mom of school-age children, this was one that hit close to home. I have seen the stereotypical “perfect mom” that all the others flock to, and I know what it’s like to just want to fit in - not just for yourself but for your children as well. It was interesting to see all the moms involved in this “clique” and their insecurities brought to light.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy!

One of my all-time favorite books. Who hasn’t felt like they had a target on their backs when dealing with cliques? It’s hard to stay mad at the mean girls because the plot is pulling on you.

I felt like I was transported back to where I lived when I was raising my daughter... Are you sure this isn't supposed to be an Orange County, CA neighborhood????? These women...... but I loved how Beth managed to navigate all of the pettiness and witchiness witha B from the neighborhood drama queens.. Laugh out loud amusing!
