Description

Most Anticipated Romance by Goodreads, Buzzfeed, PopSugar, and more!

When Harry Met Sally
meets 500 Days of Summer in A Guide to Being Just Friends, a playful and emotional romantic comedy from the author of Ten Rules for Faking It.

"Sophie Sullivan’s writing feels like a warm hug.” —Rachel Lynn Solomon, bestselling author of The Ex Talk

Hailey Sharp has a one-track mind. Get By the Cup salad shop off the ground. Do literally everything possible to make it a success. Repeat. With a head full of entrepreneurial ideas and a bad ex in her rearview, her one and only focus is living life the way she wants to. No distractions.

Wes Jansen never did understand the fuss about relationships. With a string of lackluster first dates and the pain from his parents’ angry divorce following him around, he’d much rather find someone who he likes, but won’t love. Companionship, not passion, is the name of the game.

When Hailey and Wes find each other in a disastrous meet cute that wasn’t even intended for them, they embarrassingly go their separate ways. But when Wes finds Hailey to apologize for his behavior, they strike up a friendship. Because that’s all this can be. Hailey doesn’t want any distractions. Wes doesn’t want to fall in love.

What could possibly go wrong?

This is the second book I've read in this series and it was wonderful. I loved how it was a beautiful slow burn romance between Hailey and Wes. They really did build a great foundation to what would be their HEA. I look forward to more books from this author and I will be reading the first book in this series since I originally missed out on it.

This is perfect for romantics with tender hearts. Thank you Sophie for this warm, funny book that filled a couple of days with joy. Certain books make us feel things for a moment in time and leave a hole in their wake. And this was the perfect book to fill a void. The romance trope was slow burn and I liked how both leads had to make changes and choices to be together. Highly recommend when you feel like a laugh and cute romance.

A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Guide to Being Just Friends is a well written, slow burn rom-com by Sophie Sullivan. I read it not realizing its the third book in the Jansen brother series, but I didn't feel like I missed much by reading it first. That being said, I will definitely read the first two books now!

I enjoyed the premise of this book- Hailey is the new owner of a salad shop, as opposed to a bakery which seems more common in this genre. She accidentally meets Wes and throughout the book they are "just friends", however when told from alternating points of view, things aren't what they seem at face value. Both main characters have some baggage/background to work through, but this gives the storyline some depth. It was a cute set up for the inevitable, yet adorable, ending.

Thank you to NetGalley & St Martin's Publishing Group for the ARC!

I will start by saying that I did not know this was the third book in a series when I started it. However, that did not take away from how much I loved this book! I loved seeing the Wes and Hailey grow from their friendship. Overall this book brought me many laughs and presented a perfectly done slow burn that left me feeling happy after reading. I will definitely be going back to read other books by Sophie and highly recommend this one to others!

This is everything you could want in a rom-com.....adorable characters with relatable flaws, witty banter, romantic angst, and full-on LOL moments. A Guide to Being Just Friends is the classic tale of two people who form a friendship that they both desperately need, only to discover that it is morphing into something much, much more, yet the story is told in such a way that it feels fresh. It is so easy to become immersed with the lives and emotional struggles of these characters, and it leaves you wanting more. Thanks to @NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the fabulous opportunity to review this new classic. It will definitely be on my list to recommend!

I fell in love with both of these characters immediately. Both Wes and Hailey posessed characteristics that I could so closely identify with and struggle with on my own. The book itself was beautifully written and for being one huge miscommunication trope, it is done so artfully that you completely understand how and why it happens.

Picture a meet cute gone horribly wrong, when our leads meet and get off to a rough start. This book delivers with great banter, points of view from both leads Hailey and Wes (which I always love), great friendships and more. Perfect if you love friends to lovers trope with a slow burn. This is the third book in a series but can be read as a standalone. I will definitely read the first two to catch up and get to know the other related characters.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Sophie Sullivan for gifting me an early e-book arc in exchange for an honest review.

What a charming book, and I highly recommend if you are reading this to stop and go to your local bookstore and pick up this book - because it is so perfect for the holidays You will want to snuggle up with this book, it is that adorable - and this would be a great gift for those romantics in your life as well! I believe that It is a truth universally acknowledged that anyone who reads this book will find it absolutely unputdownable! Sophie Sullivan is a new author to me, but I now will read everything she writes, and I will continue to do so. Forever. What a wonderful, fun romance! I think everyone would enjoy the sweetness, funniness, and the charm of this book, while appreciating all the while the simplicity of true love and of this well-plotted love story. Wonderful, captivating writing gives this novel the depth and ability to pull in any reader. Vivid, descriptive story-telling, with interesting characters that have depth to them, and are skillfully rendered. At the end of the book, they seemed more like friends than book characters to me. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough because I JUST HAD TO KNOW how it ended. I highly recommend this author and I can't wait to own this novel in print.

This is a perfect beach read rom-com! This is a first read for me by Sophie Sullivan and she hooked me... I loved it so much. The cutest characters, Wes and Hailey, with real life flaws & laugh out loud banter moments. A Guide to Being Just Friends is a story of two people who become best “friends” only to realize that it is turning into something more. All of the characters are so believable and such good friends, I didn’t want the book to end. Such a fun read. I loved Wes’s brothers, whom are all in business together and their brotherly banters. Can't wait to read more of Sophie's books!

At the beginning I thought oh, what a cute, fun story! But then it got even better! Hailey & Wes’s friend to lovers relationship is heartwarming with just enough ups & downs to keep your interest. But poor Wes-so clueless. This is a perfect escape read and I definitely recommend it! This is the 3rd book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. The other two books are just as good as this one though so I would recommend all of them.

This was a fun twist on a traditional trope, and I LOVED how much detail the book went into. The characters were instantly loveable and there were so many moments when reading where I was so excited for what was going to happen next. Some romance books have dialogue that seems so formal and stiff, but there were pieces of dialogue (especially between the brothers) that made me laugh out loud.

A Guide to Being Just Friends is the third installment of the Jansen Brothers series by Sophie Sullivan. While I did not read the first book and only having read the second one, I found this book to be incredibly enjoyable. The SLOW-BURN was truly *chefs kiss* and the characters were just so fun and adorable with each other. Would highly recommend picking this one up.
