While slow paced at times, I did get chills from the creature terrorizing the indigenous tribe. It was also horrifying how the author was able to portray the maliciousness and racism that was rampant in that day in age. I’d be interested to know what research the author did on the Haida people and other PNW tribes of that time.
Not knowing this was part of a series, there were a lot of references to previous work(s?) that involved the same characters. It made it hard at times to appreciate this as a stand alone novel.

Thank you to NetGalley, Backlit PR, and the author for a copy.

Totem of terror begins with Nigel strapped to a table in the basement of the medical college while the professor and Dr. Edwin standby with the girls waiting to see if he’s a Shapeshifter. It’s the night of the full moon if he is infected he will shape shift that night. 29 days before Downman Virginia DX Darilek got bitten by a werewolf and healed super fast that is why the professor and the doctor think he may be one as well. He is the newest member of, The Eidola Project A paradormal monster hunter group and what kind of hunters would they be if they bought their own werewolf with them. By the end of the night they are still not sure if Nigel is a werewolf, but they proceed to Seattle anyway. The professors friend has a serious case for them and the Native Americans need their help. Edwin is a newlywed and doesn’t really want to go but can you pass up the research. He will come to regret that decision but before there is so much crazy things that happen in this book it is funny horrific lewd refreshing and downright great reading! I love historical horror and this is my first book by Robert Herald and although I have looked for others I can’t find any so hopefully he will write more from this Siri‘s as I would love to read it. if you Love historical horror then you should definitely not pass this one up. Totem of terror by Robert Harold is the real deal and I highly recommend it. I received this book from netGally in the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own
