Description

Former NYPD detective Jack Killarney attempted to leave the darker side of society behind when he moved to a small coastal town in Maine. However, when a horrific crime is committed there, Jack realizes there is no place so idyllic that evil does not eventually come calling.

Jack becomes obsessed with understanding evil, and how and why such atrocities can occur. His investigation and research lead him to Professor Vivian Rueil, an expert on the topic of evil. She is brilliant and skeptical, and is as emotionally scarred as he is. Jack and Vivian discover a pattern to evil, and this launches them on an international search, from South Sudan to Israel to Pakistan, pursuing the pattern and attempting to thwart the next human tragedy. Ultimately, they are hunting for something older than psychology, philosophy, and religion. They just might find it.

"""Was Nietzsche right? Does the abyss truly gaze into us? St. Jarre has penned a haunting tale of one man's quest to circumvent an incomprehensible and unstoppable evil. Far too believable, and absolutely terrifying, the cost of this pursuit may be beyond imagining. Cinematic, timeless, and well executed, Absence of Grace will stick with you long after reading the final page.""

Proverbs 11:27 Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it.
Jack Killarney has had a fascination with the evil deeds of the human race since boyhood after finding the murdered body of a young girl in a culvert. The find did not scare or disgust him. He found it fascinating. That moment was the catalyst that turned Jack into a connoisseur of evil; not an evil doer himself….No, a curious seeker, questioner, wondering inquisitor about the subject of evil. Jack reads serial killer books, watches scary movies and grows into an excellent homicide detective. All is well in Jack’s personal life until he is called to the scene of a strange multiple murder that flashes him back to the accidental death of his wife. Suddenly Jack’s personal life begins to take a very, VERY violent downward turn and he fears for his loved ones and then fears for people in various locations on earth as Jack notices a pattern to sudden violence, deaths, dead birds raining from the heavens and strange man who seems to be everywhere evil shows it’s fangs. Jack declares that he will search out this source of evil and stop it. Maybe it’s true what they say, “some things are better left alone”.

There is so much truth to this book. You’ll understand what I mean by that after you read it. I see a lot of the world today in these pages, People are angrier and so divided by politics, religion, race, USA gun culture and along with this there has been an increase in acts of violence from active shooters to hate crimes. Are we creating this mayhem by focusing so much of our lives on feeding our anger and hatred and spreading it across social media? If you look at the big picture as you finish this book and think about your own life and happiness you might have an epiphany about a thing or two. We all need more Grace in our lives. Thank you #netgalley and # EncirclePublications for the opportunity to read and review this excellent book #AbsenceOfGrace by #Kevin StJarre. I would not only only recommend this book to horror readers, but also to faith based organizations and mental health providers.
