Description

“The Contract of Seven Days’ Service is now open.”

When Lady Sophia Parsons reads the notice in the window of the haberdashery at Devon’s Mill, she has no choice other than to answer the summons. She is expected. Indeed, Lord Albion Rayment will have no other, for Sophia’s family is deeply in his debt, and he has loved her from afar for years. But Lord Albion is no longer merely the suitor her father turned away. He is Master, and she is only Patience. Before the week is over, the once and future lady of Scrivenshire will learn to be his maid-of-all-things, and much, much more.

In a world that prohibits women any say in their destinies, “Patience” must find courage and independence for the first time in her life—while Albion, if he has his way, will tear down the twisted traditions of his fathers and earn Sophia’s love.

Be Warned: BDSM, spanking, public exhibition, anal sex, m/m and f/f scenes, flogging, paddling

" Not your Mama’s Jane Austen. In something of a departure from other D. A. Maddox books, this one is set not in a dystopian, religio-fascist future, but in a lush Regency past. Instead of a prison and punishment wardens we have a luxurious country estate and a conflicted Byronic lord with a tender heart and a wicked way with a riding crop. The heroine, a sheltered and privileged daughter of local gentry, chooses to accept the challenge of the seven day contract, serving a number of servant roles, in order to redeem her father’s debt. Her strength of character, willingness to learn and respect the labor and skill of those who have served her, gives this book a dimension beyond simple genre. D.A. Maddox always gives great story, memorable characters, a satisfying ride. This book is no exception!"

"Our heroine accepts a rather unusual contract to wipe the debt her father has accrued. In the process she might just learn more about herself and her world.

This is an interesting blend of things, with a historical setting with strong elements of BDSM. The story itself is well written and intriguing. The characters are well developed and well suited to the setting. I particularly liked out heroine who only had a vague idea of what she was getting into, but adapted well to her circumstances. The story moved at a decent pace and is full of plenty of steam. Overall, this made for an enjoyable read and I look forward to exploring more by the author.

Highly recommended."

"Wow it was really good in how the world was set up! I loved how dark it was and that it was really interesting in the twists. I didn't expect so much that this gave? The heroine is really cool as well, so I loved how she was written. I'd love to try the other works from this author!"

Honestly I came for the smut but stayed for the story - idk if that’s ever happened to me before! It was just depraved enough. The characters were interesting and we got to know so many. The premise was unique enough as was the trials Sophia/Patience found herself submitting to. I did think certain scenes dragged on a bit too long but then when it came time for the real smut it was rushed or even fade to black, which was a strange choice. And the whole naked chores bit got old - not sure it was necessary to keep having those scenes over and over again. I think it was a bit too long but overall I really enjoyed it.
