"An earnest, charming coming-of-age story that will come for your heart and your appetite." —New York Times bestselling author Emma Lord
Graduation is only a few months away, and Rubi Ramos’s “recipe for success” to get into prestigious Alma University is already off track.
When Alma waitlists Rubi’s application, Rubi will need to be distraction-free to make the grade and keep her parents—who have wanted this for her for years—from finding out. Which means falling for her cute surfer-slash-math tutor, Ryan, definitely won’t work. And neither will breaking her mother’s ban on baking—her parents didn’t leave Cuba so she could bake just like them.
But some recipes are begging to be tampered with.
When the First Annual Bake Off comes to town, Rubi’s passion for baking goes from subtle simmer to full boil. Add to the mix her crush on Ryan may be turning into a full-fledged relationship and Rubi’s life is suddenly so different from what it was. She’s not sure if she has what it takes to win the Bake Off, or where the relationship with Ryan is going, but there’s only one way to find out—even if it means going against her parents’ priorities.
Now Rubi must differentiate between the responsibility of unfulfilled dreams she holds and finding the path she’s meant for.
A joyful novel of first romance, new possibilities, and the chance to define yourself, Rubi Ramos’s Recipe for Success is a novel that will find its way into your heart and never leave.

What a gorgeous novel full of loveable characters and a storyline that I couldn't put down. This one is a must read!
There are just certain YA books that absolutely blow me away with how readable they are. Jessica Parra’s Rubi Ramos's Recipe for Success was one of those books for me. It was all so heartwarming to read. and the food!!! Oh! The way it is described in here, I could almost smell and taste them.Romance is deliciously romantic and feel-good.I am really impressed with this as a debut novel. The pacing and plot twists were beautifully crafted to keep the reader engaged throughout. I can't wait to read whatever she writes next.
I'd recommend this book wholeheartedly for a feel good read.
A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A sugar-sweet romance that'll leave you craving more! Rubi is such a wonderful narrator, and I loved the development of her life, family, and friends in Pelican Point. Highly recommend for fans of A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow. Bonus points for all the incredible baking puns!
This heartwarming tale of family, friends, and dreams gave me all the feels. When we meet Rubi, she is a hard worker, trying her best to fulfill her parents' dream for her. It was great to watch her start to prioritize what she wants, rather than what they want. With a little help from her family, her best friend, and the swoony surfer/mathlete she meets, we get to see Rubi achieve her own goals.
I highly recommend this fantastic YA Contemporary read!
