Description
This book is about a group of children who come to realize that children of veterans are not always identified and thanked for their service, in contrast to children of active duty service members.
This book has been recognized as a way to engage both children and adults, as well as service providers who may not be aware that children of veterans often are not identified. The book points out that intake forms often only ask about active-duty children or focus primarily upon veterans themselves rather than their children.
All of the book’s proceeds are to be donated to programs serving children of veterans in need of mental health services.

This may be a children's book, but it actually had me thinking deeply about the way we think about parents that are actively in the military versus those that are veterans. I was so intrigued. This book is a wonderful treat, that shows kids not only that it's okay to think about things, whether it's school forms or disparate treatments, but that these are things we can talk to and understand and empathize with through parents, friends, teachers, and the people who love and support us. I could not say enough good things about this, and I loved that it emphasized kids telling veterans and service members that they are thankful for their service, today and everyday.
While many books have been written about Veterans and their families, this is the first I've seen that actually talks about children of veterans in a way that both children and adults can understand. It is a great story that can make us all reflect on other unsung heroes who are attending school, playing sports and missing their parent(s) who are fighting for our country. Beautifully illustrated and well written, every school should have a copy of this book!!

I received the book from netgalley for my honest review. This book is really needed in this time and age. It is sad that many families are not even recognized. I really love this book. Some children didn't give up as much as others, because they wasn't born when the parents was serving, but all families are important. Thank you for all those that served and their families. I love this book, thank you for making it. I can't wait for number two.
