Stuck in a dead-end job as an adjunct Professor of Psychology dispelling alien abduction stories, the alcoholic Nick Bridges is divorced, disinterested and defeated.

Stumbling home from a late-night bender, Nick is himself abducted by aliens - a secret police force that keeps the galaxy from falling into chaos. They tell him that only he - out of everyone in the universe - is being called by a cybernetic armor that is key to their mission. A mission that they now expect him to complete.

With heavy emphasis on the background of the eponymous Nick Bridges, who narrates his journey from alcoholic to adventure hero in first person, the story blends science fiction with more typical adult fiction tropes to bring something truly unique to the genre.

In a time of great global strife, Hackett strived to make something that people would feel good after reading. In this first installment of the Professor Bridges Saga, his goal was to follow in the spiritual footsteps of something like the late Men in Black movies or Hitchhiker's Guide books in broadening the audience for science fiction using humor while retaining the heart and action-adventure of a true space opera.
