Description

Love in Recovery is shame-free essential reading for Catholic women who want real answers about how to handle sexual desire and addiction to pornography and masturbation.

Rachael Killackey, founder and executive director of Magdala Ministries—an organization that helps women heal from sexual addiction—shares her personal story as she helps you to overcome your dependency, be free from shame, and live in hope.

In this much-needed and practical resource, Killackey offers compassionate, down-to-earth advice and identifies the gateways to pornography addiction, its complexities, and the path to healing. You will learn that you can:

  • understand that your first exposure to porn was not your fault;
  • forgive yourself;
  • be honest with the Lord through the Sacrament of Confession;
  • seek accountability and help in a group setting and professional, counseling or spiritual direction, if needed;
  • replace old habits of lust with new ways to love; and
  • share your story for the sake of freeing others.

Love in Recovery is also the perfect resource for those working to minister to sexually broken women.

Love in Recovery is a self-help guide as well as the author's personal story of how women can break free from pornography addiction. I really appreciate that this book even exists because it's such a shameful topic (which the book wonderfully addresses) and so much written about pornography addiction is geared towards men.

The book breaks down the reasons we gravitate towards pornography and how to fight the addiction. Killackey addresses the root of the problem, and offers many practical steps to move forward. I have read quite a bit on this topic, and there were tips mentioned here that I hadn't heard before. I personally found chapters 9 and 10 to be the most helpful. The author offers a fresh perspective with a Christian message, and I believe that many women will benefit from the wisdom here. Sometimes Christian books lack the practicality that non-religious books offer, but Love in Recovery is both practical and rooted in biblical truth.

Shining light on such a private topic is much needed, and the author really succeeded here. I'll be recommending this to many.

Addiction is a problem that has deep roots in our countries and in many of our families. It can be easy to become discouraged when facing substance abuse--or when seeing someone we love struggle with it.

But what about when the "substance" is a video or visual imagery? How can we deal with it then?

Love in Recovery: One Woman's Story of Breaking Free from Shame and Healing from Pornography Addiction is a fascinating read. Author Rachael Killackey has done an incredible job of exploring the root causes of this addiction, which is often hidden from view.

Killackey offers the possibility of healing and hope to those mired in an addiction which touches so many lives. Her honest depiction of her personal struggles is both refreshing and powerful.

The author has created a work which is one of the best I have ever read on the issue of recovery. She is to be commended for taking on a tough subject and revealing the enlightenment and freedom that can result by walking with Christ.
