Description
All That Glitters: The Sgt. Windflower Mystery Series Book 13
Sergeant Winston Windflower is moving on to a new chapter of his life, no longer an RCMP officer but now a Community Safety Officer in the small community of Grand Bank, Newfoundland. But when a body is found in the bed and breakfast he co-owns, diamonds are found in the body’s digestive system, and then Windflower’s friend Dr. Sanjay, who was given the diamonds for safe keeping, is kidnapped, it’s clear that crime has returned once more to Grand Bank.
Windflower finds himself back in the thick of it, helping his newly promoted friend, RCMP Corporal Eddie Tizzard, track down a ruthless diamond smuggler who will stop at nothing — kidnapping, even murder — to pull off his dirty business.
This is another finely spun Windflower mystery that contrasts suspense and tension with the joys of friendship, family, and gratitude. Come back to Grand Bank for another great adventure in Sgt. Windflower Mysteries.
Advance Praise
“Windflower is a cook, a storyteller, a family man with contacts that stop you in your tracks with that special Windflower phrase or relationship. The setting is a story by itself. Together the author, Mike Martin, spins a tale centred in Grand Bank Newfoundland with colour, winter storms, crime, and Mounties that live on their stomachs.”
— Don Graves, Canadian Mystery Reviews
“Be prepared to be charmed by Windflower, a food-loving sergeant who could possibly be Canada’s most polite Mountie.”
— Halifax Chronicle-Herald
“Dangerous Waters is an engaging thriller with a superb cast”
— Kirkus Reviews
"No longer an RCMP officer, Winston Windflower is now a Community Safety Officer, but that doesn't mean all is peace and quiet in Grand Bank.
What starts off as a sudden death of the occupant of one of the rooms in the Bed & Breakfast that Winston and his loving wife Sheila run, quickly becomes a Provincial, possibly National, possibly International mystery when first of all, diamonds are discovered in the dead man and then someone is kidnapped, setting off a manhunt that will have repercussions through the entirety of this new book in the Sgt. Windflower Mysteries series - number 13!
Simultaneously, the new Inspector of the regional RCMP detachment is the victim of a horrendous accident, which sets off an interesting sub-plot of secrets and indiscretions.
Through subterfuge initially, and finally out of sheer desperation, the attempts to rescue the hostage lead to a number of interactions with possibly one of the most ruthless criminals that Winston has ever met. And it's a race to the finish that never lets up until the very last page.
What has attracted me to this series, other than the finely crafted mysteries, is the character evolutions that Mike Martin has painstakingly crafted over these 13 novels. We learn more and more about Winston, Sheila, Eddie Tizzard, Sanjay and all of the other characters as we go along, and he also weaves in - seamlessly - Winston's back story, family ties, spirituality and love of family. Even after receiving bad news, Winston prevails and grows.
I highly recommend this 13th book in the series, which could be read as a standalone, but you really should read the series."
