Calamity

Constance Fay does a great job in creating this debut novel, it worked well with the scifi elements and did everything that I was hoping it would. I loved how it had what I enjoyed from Firefly and be it’s own thing. The characters were what I was hoping for and enjoyed every second of it.

This was such a fun, sexy and action-packed read! Perfect if you like snarky banter, a steamy romance, and some amazing fight scenes.

Temper is captain of a shakey but well loved ship, The Quest. When a member of one of the Families temporarily joins the crew for a mission, Temper's strengths and weaknesses both are tested. In this hot enemies-to-lovers romance, the author also builds an amazing story that continued to surprise me. This quick read is more than meets the eye!

I was caught up in this in so many ways. The romance was romancing, the other members of the crew were giving such good found family vibes, and the scifi , the world, was so fun to read about.

Definitely recommend this!

An enemies to lovers romcom in SPACE?!? Dream. Book.

CALAMITY was fast-paced, exciting, snarky, funny, and just spicy enough for the likes of me, with well-developed, complicated characters, an interesting plot, excellent world-building, and SO MUCH action. I absolutely loved every minute of this book and am already officially dying to read book two in the series. READ THIS, especially if you're a fan of Firefly.

I absolutely loved this story! The slow progression to allies, then friends, and then lovers so well written. The plot was a bit complex at times but I was still very invested in the characters, their mission and most of all, in their romance. Overall really enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone who likes sci-fi.

I was so excited to get my hands on Calamity by debut author Constance Fay. There for sure are not enough action-packed, space-themed romances out there and this book did not disappoint!

Who doesn’t love a crew of found family misfit outcasts, a crazy cult, and a mysterious love interest who may be up to way more than we think.

I loved how easy it was to fall into this story. There was action right from the beginning and it just kept coming. Temper is such a fun and witty character, I thought that banter between her and her crew was wonderful and you could really tell that these characters really care for each other.

I also found it super refreshing to have a main character who gives in to her desires with the love interest instead of fighting with them and herself about it for most of the book. Definitely a great read!

This was a delightful sci-fi romance romp. It had the right amount of snark, adventure, and romance. The characters were interesting and I can't wait to see where the world building takes up. All in all a great read.

Kicks off at a fast pace that sucks you in and keeps it going, definitely a good fit for out libraries.

Calamity was honestly one of my most anticipated books of 2023, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Constance Fay is a new author to me and I was blown away by her writing. This sci-fi novel had such a cool and well thought out universe. I am a complete sucker for an operatic, family dynasty sci-fi novel.
I love the trope of found family and I’m so excited to see the secondary characters stories. Hopefully the secondary characters get their own future books! Overall I really really enjoyed this book. For anybody who ever watched f the tv shoe Firefly, this is the book for us!

This was a FANTASTIC book that I immensely enjoyed! After I finished, I looked to see what other works the author, Constance Fay, had published, and I was shocked to discover this is her first published novel, which speaks to her talent and sophistication as a writer.

This novel is equal parts romance and plot, which is great for those who love sci-fi or space opera, but wish there was a bit more kissing (and other activities) involved. If I have one complaint about the novel, it is that the romance developed too quickly and didn't quite feel 'earned.' That said, I'm used to reading series that develop a romance over the course of many novels, so that may have skewed my perspective.

The FMC was phenomenal and written to be a complex, fully-realized person, as were most of the side characters. The MMC was certainly swoon-worthy, but also just a *bit* too perfect to be entirely believable. Again, this may be personal preference. The complexity of the writing was nicely done, the pacing was perfect, and I enjoyed the world-building. I hope to see more by this author. It feels as though this is the first in a series of stand-alone novels, each about a different character finding their happily-ever-after, but honestly, I would love to see more novels with this main character - Temperance Reed - as the FMC, as I really enjoyed reading from her perspective.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys sci-fi/romance, and the works of Jessie Mihalik, Jenny Schwartz, and Jennifer Estep's 'Galactic Bonds' series. 5/5 stars!
