The Irish Fall : A Sweet Romance Novel.

I've mentioned to people before that books should come with a trigger warning. This novel is the first one I have encountered to have one, it made me question whether I wanted to read it or pass it by. I decided to jump in and I am so glad I did. On a day when I couldn't get dressed or get off the couch from my own personal chronic health journey I was transported to another place. I lost the day to laughter and tears. I thank the author for not beautifying the pain, the insecurity and fears of any of the brilliant characters in the book. Only yesterday I spoke to my husband about our "Job moments" to see it referenced in this novel brought so much comfort. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and recommend highly.

This was a sweet story, and I appreciate the trigger warning at the front. I personally don't suffer from chronic illness, but some people close to me do. Though I do not know what it is like, I have seen how trying and excruciating it can be. So, for that, I am grateful for the inclusion of it in the story.

As for the story itself, it was written fairly well, and I loved the Irish setting. The characters could have used a little more depth to who they are, but I enjoyed how they grew together and opened up. I'm not sure I enjoyed the 1st person narrative because it felt like a lot of monologuing that didn't seem natural to me. Plus, the relationship was insta-lovey, but also very cute and sweet.

Reading this book felt the exact same as watching a romcom movie. In other words, it was entertaining, but there's a lot packed in really fast. One thing I'd have liked more of would be a bit more time spent growing the relationship between Eyre and Darby rather than having it be so insta-attraction.

Anyway, this is a sweet read that acknowledges some hard truths of life. It's done in a respectful but real way.

This was a very sweet read and very well written. I enjoyed this book and can see myself recommending to friends and family who want a romantic read without smut.

I was so happy to get a chance to read this book from Brooke Gilbert. I loved that it was more than just a contemporary romance and that it is such an advocate for those with illnesses that you can’t necessarily see. Before the book begins Brooke explains that this book deals with heavier topics such as suicide, chronic and lifelong illness such as Crohns and Endometriosis as well as PTSD.

The characters are well written and I loved both Eyre and Darby. Eyre has such a great heart but is weighed down with her illnesses and the realization that they aren’t going anywhere and they will be with her for a lifetime. Darby is haunted by his past and has been living in a fog for years and years. I love that happenstance brings them together and that they learn how to heal together. Maybe not physically in Eyre’s case, but certainly mentally and emotionally together.

I loved grumpy Darby and how he is trying to outrun the small town’s name of his alter ego Darcy. I loved the secondary characters of Sinead and Mak and their love story as well.

This is such a sweet book with lots of heart, pain, and emotions. It is one that you read and realize that there are so many people going through so much and just trying their best to get through each day. It is a book that reminds us to be kind to each other, to help each other the best we can, and to have empathy.

As someone who deals with stomach issues and has such a limited diet Eyre’s life really hit home. I never know what day will be a good day or a bad day for me and I never know if I’m going to unknowingly poison myself with something I eat. Books have saved me and gives me something to do when I don’t feel well and I’m so grateful for Brooke and what she is doing to bring light to those that need it.

Give this book a try if you want to learn more about what living with a chronic condition is like and how we all can be stronger together.

4.25⭐️ super cute, low angst, romance novel. Great for some summertime reading.

This was just a delight to read. I laughed out loud so many times and definitely got a little teary as well. It was easy to immerse myself into the setting (I’m dying to go to Ireland now), and i immediately fell in love with both MCs.

Not a full 5 stars because, oh my god, the plethora of movie references was just too much. I kid you not, there’s at least one or two in every chapter and that almost felt a little lazy to describe a scene or a feeling. Not for me.

Besides that, super sweet. Would definitely recommend.

Is there much better out there than a contemporary romance novel set in an idyllic country that gives off all of the cozy vibes with an adorable love interest? Hardly!

I was so excited to read this book from the beautiful and cozy Irish setting to the chronic illness representation. It was a cute read with a great cast of characters who had the best advice and banter between each other. I know we're supposed to be primarily falling for Darby here, but how can you not also fall in love with Mak? He's the cutest grandfather figure and I loved his story just as much, especially since his story was the perfect example of how it's never too late to follow your heart, even if it's terrifying.

I really like Eyre as a main character. She's been through so much and deserves a happy ending surrounded by those who love and support her. And there truly is nobody better than Darby and Mak to do so. I cannot imagine how it is to live with Esophageal Crohn's as well as endometriosis. In this story, Eyre is fresh out of excision surgery and needed an escape. Now I don't know about other fellow endo warriors, but there is no way I could've made it to an airport immediately post op where I then have to sit through a transatlantic flight where I spend the next two weeks walking a ton and taking baths/visiting the beach. I found all of these actions to be a little unrealistic since it's not comfortable to even sit, let alone walk around, for at least a week post-op (if you know you know). And the baths? Heck no. I sat through a lecture from my surgeon before surgery about avoiding baths and such for weeks afterwards. So I do think Eyre is a little unhinged here. But did I like her character and empathy otherwise? Absolutely! She's genuinely a treasure. As for Darby, he's a bit of a mess, but after some rough events in his childhood that has led to PTSD and anxiety attacks, who could really blame him? I loved how doting he was towards Eyre despite being typically very fickle and how he secretly has a big teddy bear heart. This story is told as dual POV from both of their perspectives (which I do love a good dual POV!)

The writing was good, if rather quite lengthy that perhaps could've been shortened a little to make it more concise as it was a little slow at times. There was so many fantastic quotes that I ended up highlighting as they were right on the money and all too real. So many great life lessons in this book! I also really liked the trigger warnings at the start of the book and how comprehensive they were (including how it mentions discussion of faith since that's an often overlooked trigger for the many that have religious trauma). I will add one on as it has a super brief mention of Harry Potter since movie titles and moments are frequently named throughout the book. But otherwise I do wish all books were as comprehensive as this one with its trigger warnings! I also think that this book did well balancing both plot and characters and how the side characters were developed well and had you hooked on their stories too. I can't say I'm a big fan of how insta--lovey it was, but to each their own and I suppose if you know you know when it comes to love! Also, it should be noted that this is a clean romance that doesn't go past kissing for fans of non-spicy romances!

Overall, I really liked this book and I like that more authors are writing chronic illnesses into their books! I love reading stories where spoonies get their happy ever after and find a genuine romantic partner that loves them for them. It's a book that's good for the soul and full of vulnerability that will leave you feeling cozy and hopeful!

The content warnings at the start of this book are excellent. This story has authentic chronic illness representation, discussions of infertility, PTS attacks, discussions of suicidal thoughts, and discussions of Christian faith.

Eyre has multiple chronic illnesses. She has a surgical procedure, gets heart wrenching news, and gets on a plane to Ireland.

Darby is haunted by mistakes he made as a child. He will not forgive himself and he lives with the guilt, grief, and PTS of the worst day of his life.

Together they find love, forgiveness, worth, hope, and faith. There are so many honest and vulnerable conversations in this story. It was a wonder to read.

The Irish Fall by Brooke Gilbert is the second stand-alone in her International Soulmates series. It is a clean and sweet romance between two perfectly imperfect characters, Eyre and Darby. They meet at a precarious clifftop location in Darby's Ireland where American Eyre contemplates and dreads a future with terrible chronic pain and Darby spots her from the tour group he is leading. Darby has a past and lives with crippling PTSD. It takes a little while to share their burdens but they quickly connect and bond with understanding and compassion. They realize they have found love and come to cherish and value each other even after seeing each other at their worst. They learn the wisdom in vulnerability, letting go and letting one another in.

My favourite aspects are the characters including Mak and Sinead, the gorgeous Ireland setting and most of all, the chronic pain struggle which is so relatable. Though not a fan of instant love, the relationship is a lovely one based on mutual understanding.

Living with countless debilitating days myself, that side of the story really resonated with me… the agony of "paying" for health choices, hyper-awareness of symptoms and grieving my old life. The author herself suffers with several chronic illnesses and makes it clear that in spite of them one can find joy and hope with God's help. So true! I also like that she describes trigger warnings with care. If you suffer from chronic pain, you will undoubtedly find this novel super meaningful. If you don't, you will learn more about what those who do go through every single day.

I think what bugged me here was more on me... cause the story was amazing, the story telling, the characters too and the whole endometriosis, chronic illness, panic attacks and celiacs are all things i can relate on a (far to) personal level.

I know that the handling of the diet annoyed me but that is something I personally struggle with still (e.g. she ate a ice cream cone -> gluten, she just let herself get glutened for not getting embarressed which didnt really fit into the rest of her character)

The "grandparents" were mostly cute but triggered some very bad memories with my family... setting personal boarders & respecting them is important... (e.g. the talk Mak and Darby had)

The panic attacks were handled amazingly... I loved that representation... of loosing and fighting for control...

Also the two broken characters not fixing each other was done well i think...

4.5 stars. This book follows Eyre and Darby who meet on the cliffs of Ireland. Eyre has recently run from her difficult diagnosis in the US and finds herself in a small village. Darby has his own ptsd from something that happened in his past. They each are dealing with heavy, emotional issues and slowly learn to open up to each other. This book takes place over a short time but I still really felt the connection between these two was real. This was a sweet, clean romance that had a lot of emotion and depth and also a little bit of faith conversations in it without that being all it was about. I loved the setting of this small town in Ireland and the secondary characters of Mak and sinead were amazing as well. I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a sweet emotional romance with no spice but great romance.

From the start of this story, I was hooked and kept on wanting to read more even when I was finished.
Very good character development. The characters all had some issues that they had to overcome in their relationship. I loved how this took place in Ireland I have never been, and this just made me go even more!

I just want to start by thanking Brooke for sending me an ARC of her new book, The Irish Fall! This book is set in Ireland and has major chronic illness rep, including endometriosis rep💛 When I read the synopsis I knew this one was for me!

This is such a sweet story and the romance is perfect. It was so fun to see Darby & Eyre explore Ireland as well as help each other when they were struggling. I also loved Mak’s character, such a sweetheart. Everyone to read this cute book! Reading it made me want to go to Ireland and explore with my husband! This comes out July 13th so mark your calendars🥳

A lovely read and a very important book as it shows protagonists with conditions largely unknown to a lot of people and highlights the difficulties in living lives with these conditions. I like the fact that the book covers so much, right down to the warnings at the front, to the slang dictionary and recipes at the back. This is a wholesome book and a beautiful story. This book was phenomenal. The storyline between the two characters was so sweet to read. I was giggling throughout the entire book. I hope to explore more from this author soon!!!

This was a wonderful story that I think my students will love for multiple reasons. They would identify strongly with both Eyre and Darby as well as appreciate the support each character offers each other. Students struggle with mental health and they tend to feel alone, or different from others and this story will be a wonderful way for them to take that step in feeling they are not alone.

Like Eyre, many people feel that they have no other options left to them, and lean towards harmful thoughts. Not many have someone like Darby to intervene when necessary, and I think that was a huge positive to this story: Darby not only helped her, but she felt in that moment that someone cared enough to stop her, listen to her, and support her even when she wasn't ready to talk. Likewise, Eyre was supportive of Darby when he wasn't ready to discuss why he felt the way he did about relationships and romance, and the topics of mental health were handled very respectfully. Instead of it being used as a shock and awe, or excusing bad behavior, Gilbert did a wonderful job diving into the realities and the repercussions of each. I would highly recommend!

The Irish Fall by Brooke Gilbert is a delightful, sweet, clean romance. So much description goes into the landscape that I felt as if I were actually in Ireland. Major health issues are a part of the main female character's life and are discussed throughout the book. This is a means of bringing awareness to rare health conditions.

The only negative for me (and is the reason for a four-star rating) is the overuse of analogies. At times it seemed as if there was, at least, one per page. The comparison at the beginning of the two main characters' names (Darby and Eyre) being compared to Darcy and Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice was okay. However, to have several pages at the end of the book devoted to all the movies, television shows, books, and songs referred to in the book shows the overuse of analogies.

Such an incredibly sweet, yet gut wrenching story.

I really felt everything right alongside the MC's... As someone who has had chronic pain for years now, I could relate to some of Eyre's struggles. Everything from the chronic/autoimmune conditions, to the PTSD/anxiety/panic attacks was really well described.

But fortunately, even though our MC's have their struggles and insecurities, we're given such a beautiful love story of acceptance, care and respect. It's very instalove, yet the developments are in such a way that it doesn't feel forced and is absolutely believable. Add the Irish setting and it's just the perfect book.

It doesn't have any steam, however the desire between the MC's totally transpire through the pages.

I highly recommend that you give this book a chance - you won't be disappointed!

Ps: Although it didn't affect my experience whatsoever, I would've loved that the Irish terms and the playlist suggestion were at the beginning of the book.

Eyre decides she’s had enough and jumps on the first appealing flight, landing her in the heart of Ireland. As she looks out from the Cliffs of Moher, she thinks about how much Crohn’s and endometriosis have forced her to give up in life. Darby, not to be confused with Mr. Darcy, is a true grump. While giving a tour, he spots a woman dangerously close to the edge of the cliffs, and he’s drawn to her.

Eyre impulsively decided to fly to Ireland, not knowing what she'd do there or how long she'd stay, but ended up having the loveliest time. Darby definitely tried to hide his fascination with her, but he was hopeless from the moment she came into his life.

The following few weeks saw him taking her sightseeing, taking care of her when her disorders flared up, coming out of his comfort zone just to see her happy. He wouldn't open up easily about his past, but with the help of Mac, his grandfatherly roommate, and Sinead the friendly bartender, he got there. He struggled with panic attacks, but Eyre was the calming force that grounded him.

I loved that Eyre brought out the fun side in him, even recruiting him and the whole town for a matchmaking scheme involving Mac and Sinead 😂

Once again, I fell in love with the characters written by Brooke. I loved that they loved with all that they had. I also loved that Eyre said that losing her faith was the best thing that happened to her, because it showed her what life without God was like, and she didn't want to be without Him anymore. A beautiful story that I am ever so grateful to have read.

Eyre, tired of her life and constant health problems related to Crohn's disease and endometriosis, spontaneously decides to jumps on a plane to Ireland. While exploring the Cliffs of Moher, he meets a cynical Irishman named Darby - not to be confused with Darcy. He differs from the hero of Austen's novel not only by one letter, but also by his approach to love.

I haven't read a book in a long time that transported me to another place in such a way. During these two days of reading, I was in green Ireland, and it was a wonderful time. This was because the description of the scenery here was great. The book had short chapters, which is what I like best. The heroes are wonderful. Not just the main characters, but also the side characters. Mak has a special place in my heart. The relationships are very real here, and reading the book, you can feel the progress, mainly in the Eyre-Darby relationship. Nothing was rushed, just naturally built up, which made it easy to believe in their feelings and cheer for them.

If you are looking for a book with a cozy vibe, this is the perfect choice. Thanks to this book, Ireland jumped higher on my list of places to visit.

Dawno nie czytałam książki, która w taki sposób przeniosłaby mnie do innego miejsca. Przez te dwa dni czytania znajdowałam się w zielonej Irlandii i było to cudowny czas. Było to spowodowane tym, że opis scenerii był tu świetny. Książka miała krótkie rozdziały, czyli takie jak lubię najbardziej. Bohaterowie są cudowni. Nie mówię tylko o głównych bohaterach, ale tych pobocznych również. Mak ma specjalne miejsce w moim sercu. Relacje są tu bardzo realne i czytając książkę czuć progres głównie w relacji Eyre-Darby. Nic nie było przyspieszone, tylko naturalnie było budowane przez co, łatwo było uwierzyć w ich uczucie i im kibicować.

Jeśli szukacie książki o przytulnym klimacie, to ta jest idealnym wyborem. Dzięki tej książce Irlandia wskoczyła wyżej w liście miejsc, które planuje odwiedzić.

Eyre's life hasn't turned out the way she expected in so many ways, but an unplanned trip to Ireland changes everything for her. When Darby spots a tragic-looking woman perched on the top of a cliff, he feels inexplicably drawn to her. But his efforts to help her battle her demons expose his own. And however much he may want her in his life, he can't conceive it as possible that she could ever be willing to stay once she realises what he's like. Each has come to consider themselves unlovable, not to mention they live on opposite sides of the ocean. Can they each learn not only to accept the other but to accept that it's mutual? And can the long-buried past ever be overcome, or is it doomed to destroy their future?

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book at first - Eyre seemed to want others to consider her as more than her various disabilities, and yet to be unable to see herself that way. Fortunately, as the story progressed, she became more a real person who had limitations she needed to be aware of, not just the limitations themselves. In fact, the further I got into the story, the more I was absorbed in it and found it hard to put down. I enjoyed getting to know both Eyre and Darby, with their at-times similar but quite different problems, and watching them learn to accept and/or live with them. It was also interesting learning a bit more about a disability I'd never heard of before, and see a bit of what it can be like to have to deal with such things on a daily basis. All in all, I really enjoyed the book and hope to read more by the author.

However, I did have a couple of minor quibbles that annoyed me and kept it from being a five-star read. First, for a Christian book, I wasn't happy with characters giving the impression that sex outside marriage was just assumed - nothing actually happens (which was good), but the (never corrected) attitude bothered me. Also, Eyre's food issues seemed weirdly inconsistent - early on it sounds like at home she struggles to find anything at all that she can eat, and yet once she arrives it feels like as long as she avoids gluten and processed foods, she's fine with pretty much anything else. And I don't understand why she'd deliberately choose to eat something that will make her sick rather than just saying she's gluten intolerant - she didn't have to go into all the rest at that point.

This was honestly the sweetest read. I loved the growth of both Darby and Eyre and how their individual growth and their love for one another helped them grow together. Loved the Irish integration and everything about this sweet read.

I simply adored Brooke’s previous book- The Paris Soulmate, so obviously I had to read this one too; and she was kind enough to send me the ARC ♥️

Firstly, I loved the sight references she gave coz they really helped set the vibe for the book! The little author’s letter with TWs was great and I think more authors need to do that.

The characters are perfectly developed and beautifully brought to life in this story. Eyre is just amazing! She’s witty, compassionate and so so brave and deserves her HEA. I absolutely adored Darby! He’s a grumpy cinnamon roll who truly cares for Eyre which is so sweet. It was so heart warming to see how they were both there for each other during the difficult times.

Overall it’s a really cozy read that’s bound to sweep you off your feet! This story is quite an emotional whirlwind filled with many LOLs and Sobs.

Initially, I thought this would be a three star read. Then I go to chapter 30 and my view shifted to a four star because it beautifully weaves trauma and grief into faith. The author Brooke Gilbert writes well which is a must for me.

Our main character, Eyre, has autoimmune disease(s) and endometriosis. Although it's never overtly stated her romantic interest Darby has PTSD. Both and Eyre and Darby are insecure and repressed around their issues and try to keep them to themselves.. For both they are the source or related to the source of their insecurities. Additionally, a secondary character has dyslexia. Love happens for our primary and secondary characters and the story is believable and beautiful.

Personally, I read fiction to escape and am not fond of any label. I have autoimmune problems myself and I don't want to read about it. in my fiction. But I knew it was playing into this book before I requested it. And it is worth the read.. The other thing I was not fond of were the copious movie references. It seemed they were too frequent and just irritated me. Sure a couple of references perfectly placed is wonderful, but this was too much of a good thing.

What I enjoyed was how said issues served as the point of opening for the main characters and was used to highlight the reality that when someone really cares for you, those things don't matter. And I was really moved at how it explored the impact of illness , trauma and grief on one's faith. The love story is beautiful because these characters start off pretty quickly knowing each other's issues. and accepting each other as they are.

I do recommend this for a read.

As someone with endometriosis, I was very much looking forward to this book and the author did not disappoint! The book follows Eyre, who has chronic illnesses and Darby who harbours a secret of his own. I loved reading about the beautiful scenery of Ireland whilst delving into these two characters. Not only did the book feature these two’s love story, but another relationship blossomed!
It was so refreshing to read about chronic illness and mental health, which is something that I have read little to nothing about from healthcare professions. To read it in a book, especially a romance book was comforting - if that makes sense!

This was such a sweet, charming story. I love the chronic illness representation (as someone who also has a chronic illness). I think it can be difficult to read about mental/chronic health sometimes because it can come across and preachy, but I think the author does a great job of balancing out being informative and keeping an engaging story.
I really loved Darbe and how gentle and caring he is, especially since you get the idea that this is not his normal behavior. Always a sucker for a grumpy dude who melts for his lady.

Who wants a treap to Ireland? This book is absolutely that, a journey through magical places in Ireland with two characters broken inside but when they meet they find the means to start healing

Darby , a local tour guide in Doolin, finds Eyre on the Cliffs of Moher and seeing the pain in her eyes and the sadness he can’t leave her alone, within seconds adds her to his group of older clients and for someone who hasn’t smiled for a long time it becomes his hobby to try to make her smile

My last read was an emotional journey through one of the most beautiful places in Ireland, with themes of pain and chronic illness, infertility and panic attacks in a beautiful story where a grumpy and lonely local guide becomes his heroine’s sunshine and they find a second chance to find love

The wounds of the past and the pain for all the things that could not be is an enormous burden and as Eyre tries to reconcile her new realities with her health and chronic illnesses that limit her life, she discovers in Darby those fresh scars and pain so great as hers

This is a beautiful book, a love story between a grump and a sunshine with wounds and pain , from such a vulnerable place with a lot of love and care in a beautiful place with a dreamy Irish town and characters that capture your attention from the moment they appear

confession, I opened the book on my phone too just to see the beautiful color edition with the photos, lists of movies, songs, it is a book to stay for a long time and revisit it every time you need a dose of hope and comfort and will definitely leave you wanting to pack your bags and see that Doolin with your own eyes

This is the second book I’ve read by Brooke Gilbert and I enjoyed it as much as the first. I like that she integrates both mental and physical complex ailments that might not be highlighted in a romance book. As someone who has suffered from rare conditions I appreciated that she has found a voice in her stories for those of us who can relate to living with daily symptoms that can make life hard to navigate at times. She is giving a voice to many to know it’s ok to talk about the not so fun part of life sometimes. That being said this is a beautiful romance that blossoms between two people who needed each other even when they did not realize it at first. I really enjoyed the 4 main characters storylines , the humour interjected , the breaking down of walls for all and finding love for all 4 in the end. Best of all I loved the setting for the book in Ireland 😊

I JUST LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS, THE STORY, THE WAY THIS STORY DEVELOPED, THE WAY THE EMOTIONS WERE EXPRESSED. IT WAS ALL SO BEAUTIFUL!!! 😭😭😭😭🥹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Just one thing which I felt was a drawback was excessive use of analogy. When the reader (like me) haven’t watch or know the movies or characters and the author keeps using those to compare the situations/feelings of the characters, it felt kinda annoying because I couldn’t relate to those things.

Let me start of with, in general, I really don't like the instant love trope. And it wasnt my fav here either. (Not because of the writing, the writing was great.) But eventhough they instantly fell for each other, there was plenty of time for those feelings to develop further. So it felt a little less instant and at some points I even forgot they had an insta-love meeting!!

But that aspect of the story didn't keep me from giving this book a high rating. Because overall I really really loved the story. The Irish words made me chuckle, the emotional vulnerability made me tear up and the chronic illness representation made me want to scream because it was SO GOOD.

Brooke Gilbert really gets it, what it's like to live with chronic pain and these other conditions. Own-voices stories are so imporant and I highly recommend you read this one. Because it gives the reader such insight on the life & obstacles of a chronically ill person without feeling patronizing.

And although I dislike the instant love part of their relationship, I really was rooting for Darby & Eyre. They made such a sweet couple and were really good for each other!

The Irish Fall

I have finished this book several weeks ago and I still couldn't find the words to put about this book because it's definitely beyond just another the travel in foreign country for escapism/summer break read. The story has a lot of deeper meaning and it's wonderful!

This book has a lot to offer, from the two wounded souls try to help each other while enjoying their -might be short- companion in Irish Village, to discovers your true self and the pain in the past that has caused it all. And most importantly, it's not only focused on the two young main characters' love story, but there's also a cute story of long lost love that its spark and flame never dies from the elderly couple. Two different generations love stories set in gorgeous Ireland that is so wholesome to follow.

After reading the story I guessed this is what happened when two wounded souls that meant to be meet each other to help heal each other's wound and starting over together. It's not an easy journey of course, I admire how the bond between the characters are growing gradually over time. It's a reminder that it takes a courage and faith to open up, be vulnerable, and honest to each other, that healing took time and open heart to receive any helps from our beloved one. Personally, I love these quotes a lot:

Not what I was expecting but a good read that will touch your heart. Everyone can relate to this unique romance with wonderfully ordinary characters.

Warning:
This book discusses some heavy topics. Mental/ emotional and physical illnesses are sprinkled throughout the entire book. However, Brooke does something I have never seen an author do before. In a personal letter to her readers, she provides a content warning and offers her assistance in accommodating/modifying the book.

I was shocked to learn this five star read almost didn’t happen. In her acknowledgment, Brooke shared she contemplated not publishing it, due to how deeply personal the story is. However, that would have been a disservice to so many. This is a book that provides representation for communities that are not only marginalized, but often outright omitted.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book. Brooke is coming into her own as an author. She found her voice in this book and I cannot wait to read more. I will be anxiously awaiting her novella, Dear Doris!!!

I started reading this book while I was on a plane to England, and in all fairness it made me want to go to Ireland so so bad!! This novel by Brooke Gilbert is heartfelt and charming, it's a very realistic story, which only makes it all the more beautiful. Both main characters have gone through so much in their lives and to find the "missing piece" in each other was incredible to read.
As a romance reader, I loved the characters' names, Eyre and Darby, and all the old classic novels made my heart warm with emotion; and the subjects mentioned in this book were so important, especially now in 2023 and with what has been happening in the USA with women's rights about their own bodies, and the issue about men's mental health. Both issues are very important and should be discussed more often.
I highly recommend this book, because not only do you have a beautiful start to a love story, but you have one more love that started years ago and it never stopped existing.

Also it's official. Next trip I take will be Ireland!!

With a slew of medical issues, dietary restrictions, and a future that isn't what she wanted, Eyre arrives in Ireland contemplating everything in her life. Darby is no stranger to tragedy and has walled himself off to others out of self-preservation. As Eyre explores Ireland, with Darby as tour guide, she learns more about herself and her growing relationship with Darby. A slow burn and clean romance, this heartfelt story has excellent secondary characters and the beauty and history of Ireland as a perfect backdrop.

As the subtitle promises, The Irish Fall is a sweet romance.

Darby is a reluctant tour guide who spots Eyre standing really close to the edge of a cliff. He coaxes her away and thus starts a new relationship for them both. They travel the Irish countryside, growing closer together.

One unique aspect of the character of Eyre is that she suffers from multiple physical ailments that are not especially visible to others. As someone with multiple autoimmune disorders that do not 'show' on the outside, I found it to be refreshing to have a character share their struggles to do ordinary things.

LOVED this book and loved the representation of chronic illnesses, as being a nurse, I feel this is so overlooked (although has been rep'd more in recent years). I love the main characters of Darby and Eyre and the chemistry between them, however equally loved the bonus characters of Sinead, Mak and the wonderful dog, Lucky. I really felt Brooke put so much effort into making this book flow so well and make the characters so loveable and I can't wait to read more books by her.

I loved this story by a new to me author! Funny and sweet! I was laughing out loud so many times, and I enjoyed the banter and sweet romance, along with the life lessons that accompanied some pretty difficult things both of the main characters were going through, such as PTSD and chronic illness.

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of Darby and Eyre's story. I look forward to reading more Brooke Gilbert stories!

This book checked off a lot of boxes for me in terms of tropes I enjoy. IRELAND. CHRONIC ILLNESS. BROODY MMC. CLEAN ROMANCE......and it didn't disappoint!

As someone that has a chronic illness that includes a lot of pain and fatigue, I feel like the author really portrayed what life is like from day to day. It was extremely well done! Eyre's feelings that her illnesses make it too difficult to be with her, were so relatable, and it was nice to see a book representing that.

Darby was the perfect protective hero, and his broody nature just increased his appeal. The side characters of Mak and Sinaed were delightful and added a wonderful second layer of angst, affection and definitely humor! Even Lucky, their dog, was adorable and his little personality came alive on the page.

This book was such a cozy read. I will say that there was definitely a lot of talk about trauma, anxiety and chronic illness, but if you relate with that I recommend this book for sure!

I'll be picking up more Brooke Gilbert books for sure! 5 STARS!

so strong in the way they faced their fears, conquering them, and moving forward. their support for one another during their lowest, and their love all throughout the book blossomed beautifully that it made me cry.

A cute but heartfelt read set in the lush green fields of Ireland, the Irish fall tells the story of two ordinary people traveling together. The challenges they face, and thier romance along the way. While a sweet read, this book does contain content regarding health, both mental and physical, that added a certain realism to the story. It does a wonderful job expressing both mental health and disability representation.

I would recommend this book to sweet romance readers looking for a unique cast of characters and fun setting.

What a lovely book! The romance was so sweet. The Irish setting was my favorite part! The descriptions were amazing and it made me want to visit Ireland ASAP! I love the chronic illness representation as well. The found family and friendships in the novel were so touching. Overall a delightful read and I am looking forward to more from the author!

Reading this book while in Ireland was amazing! I loved visiting the places that the book talked about. I loved the whole romance and how the author wrote this whole book overall.
