I love the idea of when your life is in upheaval just going off the grid and starting fresh somewhere new. This has rom com all over it! So excited for this one and can't wait to share a full review and thoughts. So excited for the adventures of the Swiss Chalet as well as handsome Xavier. I know our readers are going to live this one as well! I'm getting Elle Woods vibes! Swiss Chalet used to be the name of a restaurant I went to with my grandmother when I was a young girl so that made me extra want to check out this title as well!

A brilliant first book. The opening was lovely and sad. The story was great . Read in one sitting . Loved all the food descriptions. Learning to ski and snowboard were fun. Just a great feel good read set up in a lovely part of Switzerland . Much enjoyed

Just like Holly, I was surprised about Xaviers relationship situation. I was rooting for them even before finding out. Honestly the chemistry between Holly and Luca was confusing but it makes sense now. I loved how Liv and Xavier took Holly in and made her feel at home. I also loved how patient Xavier was with Holly. He was so supportive. Genevieve also surprised me towards the end.

This is perfect if you want a sweet and quick read, where the lead is able to grow and learn in the process. Holly, a non-lover of cold climates, surprises all when she moves to the Swiss Alps. She is going to work as a sous chef and re-focus after her recent heartache. Once she arrives, she realizes how wealthy everyone is in her new community, but she makes some local friends who draw her out of her comfort zone as she learns how to navigate all things winter, including sports. Throw in a little romance and readers have a delight of a book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am a big believer in the saying, 'When one door closes, another opens', and this sums the storyline perfectly. When Holly is dumped at the altar, she's given a chance for a work at a ski chalet.

I absolutely loved this book. It was a great, romantic escape, and it just ticked all the boxes that I hope for in a romantic comedy. I liked the way her past relationship was tied up and how she moved on. I think I would have died with the wardrobe malfunction, but it was funny. It is very entertaining and enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

An easy 5 stars from me - I was completed transported to Switzerland and LOVED the theme of self-discovery through the experiences of a new destination. A fabulous heroine, some laugh-out-loud moments, and great supporting characters. Highly recommended.

A really accomplished debut, well written, well plotted, well paced, characters are three dimensional and believable, scene setting is first rate, and the ending cleverly obscured which held my interest. Main character Holly is imbued with genuine wit and a sharp and inventive turn of phrase which I enjoyed throughout. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Holly was left at the church when George decided not to go through with the wedding. She was heartbroken and humiliated. When her friend and boss offered her the opportunity to learn from a gifted chef while working in a Swiss chalet, Holly takes the opportunity. The food and wine descriptions are amazing. Readers will root for Holly as she rebuilds her life and learns along the way! I read this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What initially attracted me to this book was the cartoon cover. What kept me around was the way the author write such vivid descriptions. It feels like you are tasting the wines and food. You feel the bite of the air on the mountain. I really enjoyed experiencing this book with the protagonist, Holly. She's a frustrating one, but it was nice to see her grow and mature as a character through the book and start taking steps in the right direction.

After being left on her wedding day Holly gets the opportunity to go to a Swiss Chalet for the season and learn from a Michelin star chef to improve her cooking skills. There she meets new friends, new romance and rediscovered who she really is.

Overall I really enjoyed Escape to the Swiss Chalet.
It was a fast, light read with drama, romance, friendship and self-discovery.

There are some little things that REALLY annoyed me. And I know they are small details and I’m nitpicking but things like these immediately take me out of the story:
- our MC paying in Euros - we do not and have never used Euros in Switzerland!
- a french chef using pint as a measurement
- a french dude having the thermostat for his wine cellar in Switzerland set in Fahrenheit
- the MCs room apparently being 3 sq meters but fitting a wardrobe, a dressing table and two twin beds, when the twin beds alone take up more than 3 sq meters of space… magic??
- the shorthand WTF, FFS - super jarring!

A lovely festive snow scented hot chocolate tasting book. Lovely Holly has been with George since day one of uni. He dumps her at the altar!
Her job as chef is not appreciated by him. Chance offering of a job as a chef at a luxury ski resort catering for the rich and famous leads her to expo lore her more options a single woman out in the world she wasn’t expecting to ever have to navigate.

This was a gorgeous story, the scenery and food sounded wonderful.

I loved all the food porn in this book! I've seen some complaints about it but I thought it was fantastic! It made me very, very hungry.

I liked Holly and her journey but the romance actually was my least favourite part of the story.

This was my first book by Carrie Walker -- which makes sense since it's her debut -- and I would definitely read more of her books in the future. This did NOT feel like a debut novel!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Aria & Aries through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Aria & Aries.

A rich confection of romance, glamour and humour. Holly Roberts loathes the cold. But to escape romantic humiliation in London, she leaps into the icy unknown by taking up a last-minute job offer of working as a sous chef for a wealthy brother and sister in their stunning Swiss Alps chalet. Holly’s instantly thrown off balance in every way: struggling to ski and snowboard for the first time, trying to please her rich employers and dealing with more than one attractive admirer with secrets of his own. Can she follow the same advice with skiing and men: to focus on what is in front of her and not behind…
ESCAPE TO THE SWISS CHALET has everything you want in a romantic comedy: a warm funny heroine struggling with fish-out-of-water dilemmas, stunning Alpine settings, freezing plunge pools in the snow, gorgeous smouldering men, sparky dialogue and acres of lusciously described food and drink: a succulent lamb terrine with green apple jelly, trays of delicate lemon and pistachio tarts, and cascades of glossy caramel profiteroles, are all washed down with expensive wines from a padlocked temperature-controlled cellar and comforting mugs of spiced hot chocolate topped with huge dollops of fresh cream.
A hilarious indulgent escapist read.

This was a cute cozy romcom that I enjoyed. Quick easy read. Only issue was I did get a little bored with the food details but that’s more of a me thing and not the book. I recommend.

Holly Roberts, despite her aversion to cold weather, surprises everyone by deciding to move to the Swiss Alps after experiencing heartbreak. She takes on a job as a sous-chef for the wealthy twins, Genevieve and the charming Luca. Verbier, a haven for millionaires, makes Holly feel like an outsider in its snow-covered wooden chalets. Fortunately, she befriends Liv and Xavier, who help her navigate this world of après-ski and fondue and even teach her how to handle chair lifts. I really loved the overall plot of this book, especially the relocation to a Swiss chalet resort after a brutal breakup. I would have loved it even more if the book had. a little bit more atmosphere of Switzerland, and gave me a bit more of the setting, but in general, it was a super fun, light-hearted, and delightful read to get into a winter-y mood.

Escape to the Swiss Chalet by Carrie Walker is a heartwarming debut novel that takes readers on a picturesque journey to the Swiss Alps with Holly Roberts, a woman who despises the cold but seeks solace there after a devastating breakup. The story is richly descriptive, immersing readers in the beauty of Verbier's snowy landscapes and its luxurious chalet culture. While the book offers an intriguing mix of drama and romance, it leans more towards adult fiction, with a slow-burning romance that unfolds in the final chapter. Walker's seamless integration of French and English adds authenticity to the setting, making readers feel like they're right there in Switzerland. Overall, it's a delightful, albeit somewhat slow-paced, Alpine adventure that showcases the author's talent and leaves you eager for more of her work.

🌄the main female character, Holly, absolutely hates the cold, so when she moves to the Swiss Alps, everyone is shocked. this made for quite the comical feature in my opinion 🙈 like can you even imagine?

🌄i really enjoyed watching the character friendships blossom as i simultaneously was seeking the potential blossoming of relationships as well!

What a fabulous debut novel, I can easily say I devoured this book and already want to know when Carrie Walkers next book is due out.

A gorgeous wintry novel, that tried to cool me off in the late summer heatwave as I was reading it.

Set in the ski resort of Verbier, winter playground of the rich and famous, we have the story of some of the seasonaires that are working for one particular chalet.

Holly is recovering from recently being jilted not quite at the altar, and has taken the job as a change of pace. She is a promising sous chef and has the makings of a sommelier too.

So this is a book filled with delicious sounding food, expensive fine wines, and life on a gorgeous mountain with someone who has never skied or snowboarded before.

Which leads to some rather amusing scenes. Actually there are plenty of funny moments in this enjoyable rom-com.

Oh and there are sexy men too, and I know who I was rooting for. There are some rather pathetic men too!

Just a joyous wintry read that has left me hoping for a sequel. Utter perfection, all the things I love in a book in one story. Adored it.

Thank you to Aria and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

The book takes ages to warm up and get plodding along. We do get to see Holly getting herself back together and exploring life in the Alps. Some wrong choices and idiotic men help the book and there is romance, but hidden e each thé borrowed snowboard trousers and chef uniform.

A fabulous read. I absolutely loved the setting and the relationship that formed between the 3 workers. I’m pleased with how it ended but I just wish they came to their senses a little earlier in the book! Hope there’s another novel that follows this. Would love to read about how they get on in Italy

Real escapism! A thoroughly enjoyable read. After a relationship break up Holly goes off to be a chalet girl. She meets Xavier and Liv and her exacting employers. There follows a bit of a baptism of fire and the complications of new relationships.
A cost comfy read which was very enjoyable.

What is the best way to deal with a heart break when your fiancée dumps you at the alter? Holly Roberts has just the answer. She escapes to the Alps to do the one thing she loves the most - cook. Holly lives a life she deserves with wonderful new friends in a chocolate chalet surrounded by snow mountains, learns to ski, enjoys the cold that she used to hate so much, and starts seeing herself in a different light. Then there is a handsome rich boy who craves her attention and her taste in wine. Descriptions of food and wine are exquisite. I really didn't see that ending coming. Loved it!

Escape to the Swiss Chalet by Carrie Walker is as delicious as the Swiss cheese!

Thanks to the publisher and the author for the eARC.

Holly Roberts has her future mapped out, so no one is more surprised than her when she’s jilted at the altar on her wedding day. As she hibernates in the aftermath under a duvet at her parents’ house, she accepts a job offer to become a sous chef for the ski season in Verbier, Switzerland, the winter wonderland of the ultra-rich.

Holly is wholly unprepared for her move. She doesn’t know how to ski, and she doesn’t even have any warm winter clothes, instead opting to use a vintage pair of salopettes last used by her aunt decades ago. But worst of all, she hates the cold. Will this drastic move be the thing she needs to do to put her life back together again?

Escape to the Swiss Chalet by Carrie Walker shows how Holly attempts to do just that. This charming romantic comedy, Walker’s debut novel, ticks all the boxes. Sympathetic protagonist? Check. A love interest or two? Check. A dastardly ex? Check. Delightful locations? Check.

Since Holly is working as a sous chef and a sommelier, much of the attention focuses around food—runny raclette, crunchy croissants, magnificent macarons. The luscious descriptions were enough to make my stomach rumble multiple times. Likewise, the luxury location, with its ski-in chalets, wine cellars and attentive staff, made me want to play the lottery to see if I could become a millionaire overnight.

My escape to the Swiss chalet was delightful—it was a cheery romantic comedy that would brighten up even the darkest winter day.

Holly Roberts is a great character and one I liked and enjoyed. She is a woman with courage to leave heartache behind and I can relate. The story is sweet and easy to follow, fun and entertaining and you can just picture being in such a beautiful place.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I came away feeling all warm and cosy.

Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I really like the cover of this beautiful book! I want to go there..

Holly absolutely despises the cold and everyone knows it. So when she packs her bags to move to the Swiss Alps everyone is surprised, including herself. But after a heartbreak, it’s exactly what she needs. Where she is going is the home of billionaires and she feels out of place. Luckily, she makes new friends Liv and Xavier and they show her the ropes in the new and cold place. And then there’s Luca, handsome and rich but where’s the catch?

Escape to the Swiss Chalet was a nice, fast, and light read. There’s drama and romance, all things enjoyable in a romantic comedy. If you’re looking for something sweet, this will hit the spot.

Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for the ARC and the chance to read and review it honestly.

I really enjoyed Escape to the Swiss Chalet, the debut novel from Carrie Walker. Holly despises the cold weather, but when she experiences heartbreak of the worst kind, she finds herself in the Swiss Alps working as a sous chef for wealthy twins Genevieve and Luca. I loved this story. A descriptive book full of decadent food, skiing in the French alps and finding oneself after heartbreak . I kept telling myself one more chapter right up until the end of the book. I had every intention of reading this slowly but I just had to see how Holly’s story unfolded. When Holly is let down on her wedding day, she takes up a job in the Alps to do, what she loves, cook.

There she meets new friends in a chalet which is surrounded by mountains covered in snow. She learns to ski, and starts to like the cold, which she hates.

I loved the setting, the food which makes your mouth water, and the characters.

I highly recommend this book.

My Opinion

First of all I would like to draw your attention to the stunning cover. This really appealed to me so I knew that I had to give it a read. For me this was a great debut novel, there is a lot going on and there is a real pace to the story. With plenty of wintry weather this is an ideal book to read curled up on a cosy evening.

Carrie Walker has given us some gorgeous descriptions of food, so make sure you have snacks on hand whilst reading. This was a nice, light-hearted book to read that whisked me away.

Rating 4/5

After getting her heart broken, Holly takes life by the horns and heads off to do something no one would believe, taking a seasonal job in a cold, snowy ski resort- when she hates the cold and skiing. Totally unprepared we watch as Holly transforms from the shell of a person she was when she arrived to a fully rounded person, prepared to take on the challenges in front of her.
As the story progresses and you learn more about the characters you will definitely love work mates Liv and Xavier.
I love how their friendships develop and change as we move through the story.
The author describes the location in great detail and you feel as though you are there on the slopes with the characters. She also describes the food so well your stomach will be rumbling in the hope you get to try some of these delicious dishes!
All in all a lovely read, somewhere to loose yourself for a while.

It was such an easy book to read and it pulled me in from the start and kept me turning the pages throughout until i got to the end!!

I loved getting pulled in to the story and getting to know all the wonderful characters and becoming immersed in their story.

This was the perfect book to read while snuggled under a blanket with a nice cup of tea!! Bliss!

All-in-all this was a lovely story that had me feeling all sorts of feelings and left me with a smile on my face…….

This was a great read, excellent wintery vibes

I really enjoyed the main character and the journey we went on with her and how her life completely changed overnight and did a full reset ending up in a completely different place than were she thought she would be

I love a book where the main character is a chef etc and the food in this book all sounded so good - the descriptions of the taste and look were all making me hungry

Romance is more a subplot of this book, literally got to 50% and didn't even know if there was a new love interest, which I really enjoyed and could more concentrate on the FMC and her journey more than 'when will these people finally kiss etc'

I was shocked when I saw that this was a debut novel, it was so good!

- winter
- love triangle (kinda)
- unexpected break up leading to moving to a different country
- 1st person, single pov

I really enjoyed reading this book.
From the start all I could think was - why is Holly marrying someone who doesn't like her cat?
But watching the story develop it became pretty clear. It was fun watching Holly find herself in a world of skiing, food and wine. Finding new friendships and relationships in an new and adventuresome environment.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

The story begins with Holly packing and looking forward to her new adventure, but when her wedding ends in the worst possible way, she wants to run away. An unexpected opportunity sees her heading for the ski season in Switzerland even though she doesn't like the cold or winter sports. Feeling daunted, she makes new friends, has plenty of laughs, and finds that she can have a future without heartbreak. Holly'a journey of self-realisation is emotional and satisfying. The vividly described setting and the vibrant characterisation make this a romantic comedy to escape with.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Loved this snowy, funny and lighthearted read.

Genevieve and Luca own a chalet in the Swiss mountains and need a new member of staff. Lucky for them Holly has just been stood up on her wedding day and wants to leave London fast. Holly doesn’t like the cold or can’t ski, but she’s going to try and give it her all.

A brilliant read with tangled relationships and loads of lovely snowy scenery. A great Christmas/Winter read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

A little delayed because I am in France but a belated Happy Pub Day to Escape to the Swiss Chalet!!! I so enjoyed this book. It’s a fun, goofy, and Bridget Jones style. This book gave me all of the cozy aprés ski vibes that I love for this season, and it made me that much more excited for my annual ski trip! Walker hinted at the conflict throughout the story, so while it wasn’t exactly shocking, it was appropriate and didn’t bother me at all. The resolution was everything I needed. I laughed, I gasped, and I swooned my way through this novel and will totally read more of her books in the future! My bookstagram review will be posted later today. Link to my profile added below.

Escapist rom-com fans unite, there's a new author in town!

If this book is the debut, I can't even imagine how great subsequent books will be. A delight from beginning to end, allow yourself to be swept into the world of Holly Roberts and all of her friends.

Set in a wanderlust-inspiring Swiss village, join Holly as she tries to sort herself out after heartbreak lands her a job working at private chalet. Filled to the brim with beautifully written scenery, characters, and food (THE FOOD), fans of Lindsey Kelk will be in heaven with this book.

I counted down the minutes until lunch at my job so that I could pop open my Kindle to read more, and I simply cannot stop gushing over this great book. Perfect with a cup of coffee and a crisp breeze, you won't want to miss out on this story of self-discovery, love, and finding your people.

I can't wait for the next book from Ms. Walker.

This was an amazing debut novel by Carrie Walker. I loved the character development- you knew everyone and felt like you were there with them. Although I have never wanted to learn to ski- this book had me yearning to experience a luxury holiday in amongst the mountains.
Holly is offered a winter season in a luxury lodge as part of the team. She is hoping to learn a lot from the very talented chef- and he is keen to take her under his wing. There are lots of smiles along the way and mouth watering descriptions of the food and drink.
I loved absolutely everything about this book.

A shock on her wedding day
Has Holly looking for another way.
She takes a chance and goes to stay
And work in the Swiss Alps and learn along the way.

In a millionaire's chalet she's making a fresh start
Now her and her groom-to-be have to part.
But what will happen whilst she's being bold -
Especially as everyone knows she hates the cold!

What an adventure, with temptations, too,
Learning more about wine, food and winter sports to do.

Or will fate intervene and dash all her hopes?

A fun read with plenty of surprises along the way

Will it prove to be a loser or a really great win?

An enjoyable read with friendships and more
As this nesh lass new opportunities starts to explore.

Woolly jumper, fleecy blanket, hot chocolate and an afternoon spent in the company of Holly with the picturesque Swiss Alps as the backdrop...the perfect afternoon, don't you agree?

I had no idea I was reading a debut until I'd actually updated my Goodreads, it certainly didn't read like one. It was immensely enjoyable, with wonderful characters and food, glorious food...have the biscuits close to hand throughout!

It's a gorgeously heartwarming romantic comedy, guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart and fill your heart with joy.

Holly and George are packing up to leave London, get married, and live in the countryside in a brand new home. They have been engaged for years and now George wants to settle down and start a family. Holly isn’t convinced that’s what she wants quite yet. After being made redundant from her corporate job, she settled in to work in her favorite French restaurant as a sous chef. No, it doesn't pay a lot of money., but she loves it. As her wedding day approaches, she’s so excited but George does a runner and jilts her. She is so depressed and after soon after her boss at the French restaurant tells her of a job working at a Swiss chalet for a wealthy duo. As she hates the cold, she’s not sure but realizes she needs to make a drastic change in her life so she accepts.

When she arrives, she is delighted to meet the chef, Xavier, and chalet girl, Liv. Holly will be working directly with Xavier preparing meals and choosing the perfect wines from the owner’s vast collection.

Owners Luca and Genevieve, twins, arrive the next day and are served an elegant dinner. They have many business people that they will entertain while they are there.

As Holly settles in, Xavier and Liv introduce her to snowboarding and the apres-ski scene.

I really enjoyed the delicious descriptions of the food that Xavier prepared. So yummy and so French! This is a fun book that imparts lots of secrets about food preparation and secrets to learning to ski. The characters are all so genuine. Enjoy!
