The Movie Puzzle Book is a leisure book that combines interesting knowledge about old movies from Ian Haydn Smith with movie-themed puzzles by the puzzle book author Gareth Moore.

I tortured my wedding guests with multiple movie-themed puzzles and games that I created from scratch. And let me tell you, if I had this puzzle book, I may have used some of the trivia questions and puzzles from it during my reception.

I also often invent new rules for puzzles and games that aren't challenging enough. It felt like Gareth Moore has a similar mind to mine, and I am here for it. When a game cuts up actors' names and throws them around the page in fragments like confetti -- and the author still decides to remove a segment of one of the names -- I know this is going to be fun.

My husband and I did a few of the puzzles together, and lots of laughs ensued. It's brought joy into my life, so I'm giving it all the stars. I recommend The Movie Puzzle Book for people who like old movies and puzzles. It's especially great if you are obsessed with both.

I thought this was going to be a movie trivia quiz book, but was pleasantly surprised to find it is so much more. There are lots of very interesting and unique puzzles along with movie trivia. I'm very impressed with the thought that has gone into creating the puzzles.

Ian Haydn Smith knows all about movies. Dr. Gareth Moore knows all about puzzles. Together, they have pooled their resources to create this, The Movie Puzzle Book.
The formula works well. The puzzles are generally neither too easy or too hard and cover a wide range of films, famous and obscure, old and new and from all all around the world. There's also a good variety of straightforward questions e.g. Identify the actor/director from the picture shown, a wordsearch containing the names of the stars from The Godfather to some very ingenious puzzles such as a particularly complex one inspired by Kubrick's use of The Blue Danube.
Generally, this is not for children. It's fairly difficult. But with some useful insights into the history of cinema thrown in, this would make an ideal Christmas present for the discerning film buff.

This book was far more than I expected, a combination of interesting facts and history relating to the film industry, alongside a wide range of puzzles. It's not just the usual quiz book of film trivia, but also contains a huge variety of all sorts of puzzles, including anagrams, number puzzles, wordsearches and cinema history.

Divided into sections that cover the whole process of making a film all the way from initial pitch to advertising, it has a really interesting selection of people and films, including world cinema, and some genuinely challenging puzzles.

it's produced to a really high quality and would make a fantastic Christmas gift for cinema fans who enjoy a proper test of their knowledge.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

This book is totally addictive. If you like films and enjoy trivia, it’s for you. It’s absolutely packed with information about films, film making, genres, actors the history of the film industry and much, much more. I downloaded it yesterday and all my plans went out of the window. I was totally engrossed with the content, a notepad and pen to hand as I worked through numerous puzzles. There’s something to do on every page, with ranges of difficulty from reasonably easy to challenging. Anagrams, trivia, general knowledge and some fiendishly tricky clues along side the solutions which have been doctored to make it more fun. I really love this book and will be looking out the hard copy as a gift for a film buff friend who I know will revel in it. One of my best non fiction reads this year and so unexpected.
