Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries Publishing for the opportunity to read this excerpt for free and provide my honest opinion.
What a delicious taste, food pun intended, of what is sure to be a great read.
Holly is an easily likeable lead, with her love for food and wine jumping off the pages. Her cat Basil is written so adorably that it makes me want to cuddle my cat right away.
I cannot wait to read the rest of this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries Publishing for the free excerpt in return for my honest opinion.
Based on the excerpt, this book has great potential. I think this would be right up any romance reader's ally. The main character is likable, I love her job, and her partner at the beginning of the book seems like a jerk. Based on the title, I expect her to find love in the form of whoever runs this Swiss Chalet she escapes to.
Lovely writing and intriguing introduction.
So far so good! The first two chapters really bring you in and leave you wanting to read the rest of the book!
After downloading the extract of Escape to the Swiss Chalet.
I definitely want to buy the book when this comes out.
A great start to the story and definitely drew me right in! Really looking forward to getting my hands on the full story!
Wedding bells are ringing, and August is ready...until it all comes crashing down. Forsaking the heat of her namesake, she heads to the Alps for a new adventure...
These two sample chapters don't get into the meat of it—by the end, August is still ready and eager to marry George, and the details of what goes wrong are still a mystery. The seeds of something wrong are there, though: a romantic partner who ridicules the heroine's job and (probably more crucially) hates her cat is only ever going to be a villain. August's voice is strong, though, and these chapters give hope that this will be on the smarter end of romance novels. I'm curious to see where this will go—what will go wrong with George, just how she ends up in the Alps, and what shape her work and private lives take when everything is upended.
Just in time for winter!
Thanks to the author and publisher for providing a free preview through NetGalley.
Loved It! Can't wait to read the whole book! I look forward to reading more from this author.
Wonderful debut!
This extract really whetted my appetite for the whole book. I can't wait to read the whole thing. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Omg I have to buy this book ASAP!. This was just a small portion of the book so I’m not able to comment on the full book at this time. I did read the first 20 pages and they were excellent! The excerpt did a really great job of establishing the characters and building the vibes. The story was just building up to the first main conflict when the sample ended. Needless to say I will be buy the book as soon as possible because I can’t just stop now. If the rest of the book continues on like this is will easily be a 4 or 5 star book.
thank you for the extract netgalley. i can't wait until this comes out to keep reading. i am a sucker for all things food related and the little glimpses of food writing in this was simply addicting to read about
I’m a sucker for a good rom/com. Especially one dealing with food! I only got to read the first 20 pages from the extract, but I’m definitely intrigued to order the book and keep reading! The synopsis really sets up the book well so you have an idea of the characters going in. I absolutely adore the cover design!
I really enjoyed this exert, it seemed to be building up to what sounds like a gorgeous story with lovely characters, I can't wait to read the whole thing!
I have to be honest and say I didn't expect this to be so well written?? Maybe because my prejudice with this genre. But this little extract really (really) surprised me for the better. I can feel the warmth in the author's words. The descriptions are affectionately detailed, without the slightest hint of "omg this is too much just end it". No. Not a bit. And the conversations between the characters felt genuine and SWEET. This really put me in the mood for a cute, heartwarming read for the holidays.
Thank you to NetGalley and Aria & Aries Publishing for the free excerpt in return for my honest opinion.
I enjoyed these first chapters of the book, it has a lot of potential. Can't wait to read the rest of the book!
Based on the two first chapters, this looks like promising read! The descriptions let the reader sink into the setting and the characters seem charming!
This was a very strong start to what sounds like quite a compelling story. I liked the writing and the flow, although a whole flashback to an explanation of how August started as a sommelier felt a little unnecessary.
I loved the author's attention to detail, which gave depth to the story and already made the main character more intriguing. I also loved subtle yet noticeable red flags in George: just nuanced enough to explain how they've been so long together without leaving us wondering why she hadn't dumped him, yet discernible enough to lead to an interesting plot point.
A fun start to the book. It makes me want to keep reading and find out what happens next. Looking forward to the full novel.
Thanks for allowing me to read this extract!
These first chapters introduce us to Holly- who is engaged to long term boyfriend George (who straight away I am getting mixed vibes from). I’d be interested to continue reading to see the fmc’s journey to (hopefully) more self-assurance. I think the idea of being in a long term partnership that you may have outgrown, plus the quest to figure out what makes you tick/brings fulfillment in life will resonate with a lot of readers!
This was an amazing debut novel by Carrie Walker. I loved the character development- you knew everyone and felt like you were there with them. Although I have never wanted to learn to ski- this book had me yearning to experience a luxury holiday in amongst the mountains.
Holly is offered a winter season in a luxury lodge as part of the team. She is hoping to learn a lot from the very talented chef- and he is keen to take her under his wing. There are lots of smiles along the way and mouth watering descriptions of the food and drink.
I loved absolutely everything about this book.
*thank you to netgalley for providing me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
5/5 stars
this book was so fun! when the excerpt was over i gasped! i was flipping through those pages so quick, which kudos to the author for making the writing flow so seamlessly. through each page i was hanging onto every detail and waiting to see what will happen next. i already love our fmc!
if you love a cute love story, a journey of self-discovery, winter themed books and funny moments you'll love this book :)
5/5 stars
This was a great introduction to the book, the characters and the storyline sound excellent, the extract I read set the scene well and I can't wait to the rest of the story
I only read the extract, but it seems to be a cute and funny romance book. I'm definitely looking forward to being able to read the book in it's entirety. It has lovable characters from what I could tell, and is set up to be and great book.
I saw the cover and Swiss Chalet in the title and I had to request the Extract. Now, I am intrigued and want to know what happens next. Carrie Walker, your publishing team at Aria & Aries did a great job reeling me ins and giving me just enough to eagerly want the rest!
Holly is at a crossroads. Her life is being packed up into boxed and the countdown to her wedding has begun. However, as Holly relishes her last days in her London flat recalling all the fond memories, she can feel her doubts growing. Is their impending move the right call? Does she really want to leave the restaurant she loves?
What's going to happen next?! I need to know! I have a bit of an idea from the synopsis but I am determined to find out for myself!
To say that I wanted more is an understatement. I love Holly and I want to see more of her growth in the book. I can't wait to read it.
This title is giving me all the hallmark vibes! I love this cover also. this was a nice holiday rom-com. I have not read this author before and I had actually picked up to this book before seeing on here so I thought this would be a great place for a review. I liked this one, but its not one I would nessaceraly re-read. I did enjoy the food and win descriptions. it was definitely adventurous. but it was just missing something for me to make it a five star. I give it a 3.5/5
Absolutely loved the first chapters in this book. I am looking forward to reading the novel when it’s released.
I want more!!! This snippet of Carrie Walker’s debut wasn’t enough for me, I needed more… so I went and bought the rest of it to read!
From what I got, I could sense Holly’s life was not going to continue on the trajectory Simon had put them both on and my gut tells me his trip to the pub is the turning point.
I think I might have to read the full caboodle next!
The sample chapters did a great job of setting up Holly's life with her fiance George, and the beginnings of their troubles while still leaving the reader wanting to know more. The writing style is simplistic, but clear and engaging throughout.
I'm keen to see how the story continues!
The beginning of the book provides readers with a hook. The story convinces the reader to continue reading the book. In this case, the extract is a great way to hook readers to purchase the book.
I really enjoyed the first two chapters of Escape to the Swiss Chalet that we get in this extract. The dialogue and relationships between characters, particularly Holly and her boss Margot, felt really natural and realistic. I liked that even from the start we aren't just focusing on Holly's romantic relationships but also her experience of trying to navigate life in her 20s, such as deciding whether to go for a job with a good salary or one that she enjoys. The pacing was spot on and I found that I flew through this extract and was wanting to read on when I reached the end.
I would love to read the rest of this story, especially as the Swiss chalet sounds like the perfect setting for a cozy, festive romance!
This seems like a nice winter read. The first two chapters reel you in to want more. I cannot wait to follow August's winter journey at the Swiss Chalet.
Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read an excerpt out of this winter book
The story is good.
Holly's motivation from being fired from her job to finding a new one which suits her interests is very positive.
I am looking forward to reading the entire story.

Thank you to Netgalley for this excerpt.
The first two chapters have me intrigued to learn what happens next. The excerpt ends with George leaving the restaurant drunk after leaving a bar. Holly and George are planning on getting married and have put all of their money into a new house and their upcoming wedding. That's all we learn really in the first two chapters. George wants to be married by 30 and have two kids by 35.
I received an excerpt of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a free and honest review. I loved the first chapters that I read. Holly is an interesting character and I love some of the things she said such as the comment on her Gordon Ramsay cut out. Walker is very good at capturing her voice. I am planning to eventually read the whole book.
Well I’m certainly intrigued to see where this story will be going! Will definitely be reading the full book!
Loved the excerpt! Quick look into the main characters. After just a few pages I am drawn to the characters. This small glimpse left me already wanting to know what happens next. I’m off to get the retaining the book in order to find out.
Those was a great start to a book! I was just getting into it when it ended! I'm looking forward to reading the rest! Thanks to NetGalley for this sneak-peak in exchange for my honest opinion.
This seems like it will be the fun festive read we know and love. I cannot wait to get my hands on the full story!
Thanks so much to Carrie Walker and Aria & Aries for the sample of this ARC. It was a short snippet of the book but I’m extremely excited to pick up the full book to read!
I enjoyed this excerpt of Escape to the Swiss Chalet. I went in blind to the story, and the first two chapters did a great job of setting up the characters of Holly and George. The descriptions of food, and Holly’s work as a sommelier were mouthwatering and fascinating. However I think I’m most looking forward to reading more about Basil the kitten! His views on George are setting off alarm bells for me…
I’m really looking forward to picking up a copy of this book when it comes out, and getting back into the story!
Thank you to Aria & Aries, and NetGalley for an excerpt of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great extract! Left me wanting to read more, I will definitely be picking this up when I can! Perfect and cosy for this time of year.

4/5 stars for me!!!
This book looks like it will be a fun festive read! Holly is a relatable character who I can tell I’m going to adore throughout this story. Can’t wait to read more of this!
Just when I got invested in the story, I reached the end of the extract. I don't like George even the slightest bit, but I'm definitely curious to where the story takes Holly. I hope she gets to discover a new career path and live her dreams. I hope settling doesn't limit her, she sounds like a fun person. It's so fluently written that I had no issue being attached to the story so now I might have to order the book!
This sneak peek of "Escape to the Swiss Chalet" definitely enticed me to pre-order the book to read in its entirety! I'm already a fan of the writing, the setting, and the FMC (Holly). I can't wait to see what happens next as she navigates her life with (or without) her fiancé George.
Thank you Net Galley and Aria & Aries for the excerpt ARC! Even though this was a short excerpt, I enjoyed reading it! I would love to read the rest of this book, I know so much more is going to happen! What I read was very well-written and so far I like the main character a lot.

This extract showed that the book has a lot of potential, combining a likeable character with an interesting job, with a gorgeous cat and a full of red flags fiance and I can't wait to read the rest of the book
Thank you netgalley for the extract. Even though it was a short preview of the story I really liked the author's writing style. The start of the book didn't reveal much about the story but it looks very promising. Holly seems like a complete sweetheart and I kind of like George too. But he's too nice to be the endgame lol 😂. An ambitious beauty with a love for wine, sign me up.
Thank you to Netgalley and Aria & Aries Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this extract.
Based on the first few chapters, Escape to the Swiss Chalet is an intriguing and enjoyable romance. Holly came to life from the first page and I was hooked by the story - so eager to learn more about what happened to her relationship and how she ends up at a Swiss chalet! The writing flowed well and the dialogue felt very natural between characters. I'll be looking out for this one so I can see what happens next!
