Description
Camryn Lane is living her dream. After years of struggle and rejection, her first novel has finally been published. Her editor is happy; her teenage daughter is proud; and her boyfriend and friends are all excited for her. She’s on top of the world—until she receives a disturbing message from an unknown sender.
Rattled by the accusations she finds there, Camryn swallows the sick feeling in her stomach and resolves to put the missive out of her mind. But when she checks her ratings on a popular book site, she finds a scathing one-star review. The reviewer is so articulate and convincing that soon, Camryn’s book is flooded with bad reviews. Could the reviewer be the same person who sent the ugly email? And why do they want to ruin her?
As the online harassment creeps into Camryn’s personal life, she vows to find out who’s behind it. Is it really a disgruntled reader? Or could it be someone she knows? The troll’s actions are escalating, and when the abuse turns deadly, it will take everything Camryn has to unmask the enemy so intent on destroying her—and finally learn why she's being targeted.

The author tackled a very timely topic effortlessly, with the fear and panic Camryn felt pulsating from each page. Every single person in her orbit was either a suspect, and her desperation to find the source was tangible. Cancel culture, doxing, and review bombing are just a few ugly things infecting the book community lately. Harding's book lends humanity to these issues, reminding us that there is a person on the receiving end of this contemptible behavior. This one may be one of my new favorites in competition with The drowning man.
Another thriller from Robyn Harding that I couldn’t our down. The Haters had me struggling to fall asleep while replaying the story in my mind, a fantastic read.
Ohhhh man, I felt so terrible for poor Camryn while reading this book. As humans, we've all been in a situation where we feel like our entire life is crumbling around us, and for Camryn, it actually WAS. Because of a misguided- albeit well-intentioned- confrontation, Cam essentially lost her job, her significant other, her friends, her daughter, and her sanity in one fell swoop. Robyn Harding did an excellent job of making the situation feel dire, scary, hopeless.....claustrophobic, even, at times. I couldn't wait to see if/how the remnants of Camryn's life would be pieced back together. I sort of neglected my laundry and some other chores this weekend to avoid having to put this book down, and I wouldn't be shocked if other readers did the same. If you've ever felt like one silly decision cost you everything.... well, this is definitely one for you.

Accessibility is a double-edged sword for the online community. For readers, it's such a dream come true to communicate so readily with authors we love, and most of the time, the interactions are pleasant, passing on praise and admiration for a new release or eagerly questioning the next highly anticipated release.
However, sometimes these interactions are anything but pleasant, something that Camryn Lane is about to learn. Camryn, a high school guidance counselor, has just written her first novel. All the hardships, rejections, and doubt have been worth it. But right before she's poised to give a reading a large crowd, an e-mail full of vitriol lands in her inbox. Even worse, a well-written, scathing one star review is left on a public book forum, insinuating that Camryn has exploited the traumas of her students as fodder for her book.
Mob mentality takes over, and the abuse is coming from every direction. To add to Camryn's problems, her friends seem distant, her teenage daughter is angry and humiliated, and the abuse escalates to someone gaining entry into her home. She has no idea who would want to ruin her career this way, and she has no idea who to trust.

Many, many thanks to Grand Central Publishing and the author for this highly anticipated early copy. THE HATERS will publish July 2, 2024.
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Incredibly engaging, with an unexpected turn that caught me off guard - I was convinced I had everything deciphered, yet I was mistaken!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC copy of The Haters by Robyn Harding. I LOVED this book. Maybe because I was terrified by how easy this could happen to anyone. Someone decides to ruin your life for a perceived or real transgression. BEWARE! The build up to "who done it" is un-put-downable!
The Haters is everything I love in a beach read thriller. It's a fast paced, currently relevant, page-turner.
Camryn is a debut novelist just starting her journey of supporting her freshman work that is gaining accolades. Enter the internet troll that not only gives it a low star rating but seemingly attacks the author for mining her book idea from the high school students she counsels. One of my favorite tropes, book in a book, keeps the chapters fresh and the pages flying by. As the posts become more personal and threatening, Camryn decides she can resolve the problems by appealing to the posters and when that doesn't work, find out who is behind this campaign of cancellation and hate.
Oh and don't get me started on the many characters I loved to hate in this one. Ugh! It wasn't just trying to solve who's behind it all, it's the friends that bail on Camryn, the self-absorbed boyfriend, the evil teenager, those posters that hide behind anonymity. They all kept me engaged and enraged.
I devoured this one in a weekend, sneaking in pages every chance I got. Robyn Harding is now the author I will look to for my first summer read.
Thank you to Novel Suspects and Grand Central Pub for access to an early copy via Netgalley. All opinions are mine.
I absolutely love Harding’s writing! I love how she’s able to pull me into every story and she writes characters SO FREAKING WELL! What I loved about this one also is that although the MC made some awful mistakes, I wasn't screaming at her for being stupid. Rather, I felt for her helplessness and totally understood why she made the choices she was making. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough and I tore through the entire book in a matter of hours!
