Description

The first in a funny chapter book crime series about a well-behaved child who doesn't fit in to his family of criminals—featuring a prison break, a diamond heist, and a lie that saves the day.

Theo is good at most things. He can almost count to a thousand, knows several French words, and can operate the washing machine. But he can't lie or steal.

"You must try harder," says his mother sternly.

The Pincher Family love to steal things. It's what they are born for! When his parents leave to visit the diamond exhibition, Theo's heart sinks. After breaking Grandma out of prison (his little sister needs someone to read her bedtime story), Theo sees no alternative but to stop his parents stealing the diamond. His shout of "Stop! Police!" brings them only delight—Theo's lie has shown he is a true Pincher.

A mix of adventure, silliness, and everyday family life, and with bright and funny illustrations, this is a perfect chapter book for beginning and reluctant readers.

Praise for The Pinchers:
"If you are looking for a goofy, good fun beginning chapter book reader series, pinch this book. Criminally good writing, illustrations, and design."—Jon Scieszka, US National Ambassador for Young Peoples Literature

"Ingenious, well-written and with absolutely wonderful illustrations. We enjoy stories where we both giggle and nod thoughtfully . . . . Criminally good!" Crimetime Award for Children's Detective of the Year 2022

A fun heist mystery for elementary kids. The illustrations were fun. The pacing was quick. Kids are able to stay interested throughout the novel. A gateway book got other mystery books.

This was a really cute little chapter book. Poor Theo doesn't fit in with his family, because he wants to be honest and they like to lie and steal. Their adventures had me giggling, as the parents went off to steal a diamond and the children went to jail to spend time with their grandmother.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

The Pinchers are such a fun family and their friends are too. I laughed out loud when Cheater-Rita did push-ups and was so happy they took her to the diamond heist. Easy to read, fun illustrations in this chapter book filled with humor that motivates readers to keep going. Has a fun quiz at the end and also a thief name generator. I love fun gangster thief family stories with witty dogs.
Thank you publisher and netgalley for this e-arc.

The Pincher family are crooks – well all except for Theo who cannot lie or steal. This first in a new humorous heavily illustrated series introduces us to the family who all, including Sherlock the dog, wear criminal looking black eye masks. Laugh as they go to see Grandma Pincher in prison where she too is wearing a black eye mask. A funny beginning chapter book that might be perfect for a reluctant reader.

This book is a quick read full of pictures about a family full of thieves, except for Theo. He wants to be truthful and a police officer when he grows up. The family goes on a wild adventure to try and steal a big diamond.

I liked this one! It was quick and full of action. It was also full of humor. I liked the quirky characters and the pictures throughout. I think a lot of kids will enjoy this book!
