Description

The third book in the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Mystery series, which finds the amateur sleuths facing their most daunting challenge yet: preventing the murder of the imperious Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Someone is trying to kill Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Esteemed aunt of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, generous patroness of Mr. William Collins, a woman of rank who rules over the estate of Rosings Park with an unimpeachable sense of propriety—who would dare? Lady Catherine summons her grand-nephew, Mr. Jonathan Darcy, and his investigative companion, Miss Juliet Tilney, to find out.

After a year apart, Jonathan and Juliet are thrilled to be reunited, even if the circumstances—finding whoever has thus far sabotaged Lady Catherine's carriage, shot at her, and nearly pushed her down the stairs—are less than ideal. Also less than ideal: their respective fathers, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and Mr. Henry Tilney, have accompanied the young detectives to Rosings, and the two men do not interact with the same felicity enjoyed by their children.

With attempts against Lady Catherine escalating, and no one among the list of prime suspects seemingly capable of committing all of the attacks, the pressure on Jonathan and Juliet mounts—even as more gentle feelings between the two of them begin to bloom. The race is now on to provoke two confessions: one from the attempted murderer before it is too late—and one, perhaps, of love.

This series will never stop bringing me joy.

Gray manages to connect all of my favorite Austen novels and breathe life into the stories in a way that feels as seamless as if Austen herself was telling them. I love the fun mystery element, and somehow even after three books the investigations of Jonathan and Juliet are still exciting and each unique in their own way. I hope these books never stop, because I'm not ready to let go of these families!

I've read so many spin-offs and fresh takes on classic Jane Austen books, but this series just executes in way that nothing else ever has. If you're an Austen fan, you'll want to read these! You get to fall in love with your favorite characters all over again. We could get 100 more of these and it still wouldn't be enough for me!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This series gets better with each passing addition. It keeps readers guessing at every page turn.

When I read the plot of someone attempting to harm Lady Catherine de Bourgh my first thought was "Who wouldn't want to?" Anyone familiar with Pride and Prejudice knows Lady Catherine is demanding. And that's putting it nicely. When she speaks everyone should listen. When she advises she is actually telling you what to do. And she does not argue. You do what she says. It was only a matter of time until someone got fed up with it.

That's what this third book is about. Someone has said enough is enough to following Lady Catherine's will. Hearing of the success in catching murderers in the past she sends for her nephew Mr. Jonathan Darcy and Miss Juliet Tilney to catch the person who dares believe the world is better off without her. (Lady Catherine really feels highly of herself.)

Additionally, Jonathan and Juliet get to see one another for the first time in an year. Affection is in the air. Even if it takes forever.

I just love this series and the latest book was every bit as good as the others. I enjoyed seeing Juliet come into her own a bit more with the detecting and that she just grew up as a person. I did guess the culprit but the fun of the story is not just in the mystery but in all the characters. I look forward to the next book in the series eagerly!
