Description

A heartwarming tale of redemption, family, and overcoming adversity...

Fourteen years ago, Jake Burrows enlisted in the military after the sudden death of his wife, leaving his infant son Charlie behind. When he is injured overseas, he decides to recuperate in the small town where he grew up, despite being unsure if he will be welcome at home.

The calmness and peace of Windsor Peak are a sharp contrast to the war zone Jake has returned from, and the memories that haunt him. As Jake tries to fix his relationship with Charlie, the physical and mental damage from years at war continues to wreak havoc on his life.

Shea Kerrigan has been writing to Jake since he enlisted, and when he interrupts a first date to announce he is home, she is shocked. She realizes that her feelings for Jake run deep, and that maybe her heart was waiting for him all these years. But should she let herself completely fall for someone who could leave her soon?

As people from his past pop up in his life, Jake is forced to relive some of his worst days in the military, and the guilt he carries with him. The decision of whether to return to his military life or remain in Windsor Peak looms over his head as he recovers and could mean the difference in more than one relationship in his life.

Will Jake allow himself to fully come home and build a future with Shea and Charlie? Or will obligation and his past send him back to battle?

Coming Home: Windsor Peak by Denise Latham is a military drama. After his wife passed away unexpectedly fourteen years prior, leaving him with a young son, Jake Burrows enlisted in the military. After being hurt, Jake decided to return to his hometown to heal from the harm done to his body and mind. Jake is trying to renew his relationship with his son Charlie, but so much had happened between them in the past that it will take some time to heal. Through the years, Jake and Shea Kerrigan corresponded, and when they finally met, flames ignited. As Jake recovers, the choice of whether to continue serving in the military or retire looms over him. Jake's decision will have an impact on his relationship with Charlie and Shea.

Coming Home: Windsor Peak is about a man who is wounded in the war and comes home to heal mentally and physically. It is an emotionally moving story by Denise Latham that had me hooked from the start until the end. Once I started reading, I could not put it down. I had to know what would happen next, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were authentic and so relatable. They could have been anyone I know. Jake had a decent support network and was willing to get the help he needed. I enjoyed the growing romance between Jake and Shea. This story is beautifully written and was much more than I expected. I had no idea how challenging it is to reintegrate into family life after serving in the military.

I loved this novel! The characters were great, the setting and storyline was well paced and enjoyable, and it was a terrific romance and family drama that didn't have to get graphic in the romance area. I hope there are further stories about the family, especially the two brothers.

Coming Home is a heart warming and at times heart breaking story as an injured Jake returns home from fighting in Afghanistan.

Like many before him Jake is suffering from PTSD and also faces the challenge of reuniting with his teenage son Charlie who can't understand why his dad enlisted after the death of his mom

Windsor Peak is a small town where everyone knows everyone and people will rally around you to help.

Jake's family are exceptional yet you can feel his anguish and despair as he struggles to adapt.

Shea is a bright light in Jake's world but can they make things work out.

Denise Latham does a wonderful job of reeling you into to the story of Jake and his family and I hated the book to end.

I certainly will be reading the second book in the series.

Thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for an engaging read.
