Description
The eagerly-awaited new title by the author of acclaimed novel One Step Too Far. "Clever, gripping, chilling - and utterly impossible to put down." Grazia magazine
Seven old friends. One annual reunion. Countless feuds. How do friends stay friends for more than 25 years when there's so much to feel aggrieved about, such a tangle of lingering resentments? So when their picnic in the park goes horribly wrong and one of them ends up in The Serpentine, who knows what really happened? And just what secrets from the past are about to unfold, changing everyone's lives forever?

"You need to keep your wits about you when reading this book. There are a lot of characters and intermingling relationships and it takes a little while to get these all straight in the reader’s mind. The plot does not stretch the reader, it is the way the author has put it together and revealed it a little at a time that makes for a story that you HAVE to get to the end of to see how it all pans out. In much the way of the author’s previous book ‘One Step Too Far’, everything is not revealed until the last few pages. So stay with the story and don’t give up! There is a good use of some strong language to bring to the reader the reality of the story. As always this author’s excellent use of the English language clearly paints each scene. I am not sure if the sales techniques described to sell door to door encyclopaedias in the USA really happened like the book describes, if so, it must have been a nightmare for the salespeople!" Christopher French, Tuaranga, New Zealand
"This is a strong, well-written, confident novel. Tina has managed to weave together both a strong story and a web of characters, intricately related to each other, with convincing histories. The structure is ambitious, but she pulls it off - she builds up our expectation and some suspense, but we don't feel let down by the resolution - excellent." The Literary Consultancy
“It's the follow-up to the hit One Step Too Far, and Seskis again weaves a tale of suspense and mystery. Seven old friends get together once a year, even though none of them really enjoy it. They are old college friends, once incredibly close, but growing apart over time. True, families and careers have changed them, but there are also many hidden dramas that happened over the years, driving invisible wedges between the women.” allisonwrites.com
“I finished this last night - I had to get up to make a 3:30 am airport run and should have been trying to nap a bit but I just could not put it down! I really liked the slow build as I got to know each woman. And those men!! The delicious shivers of finding out the details about each one's past and also their perspectives on situations and each other!!! Another fun and twisted novel with interesting characters and an unexpected incident on a nice evening by the Serpentine Lake...old friends indeed!” thebooknurse.blogspot.com
"Clever clever lady! Again, despite the fact that you switch time, place, person, you still managed to hold it all together and keep me intent on finishing. It was a credible story with interesting storylines which was twisty, convoluted and intense... It actually does take a lot to surprise me – so well done!" musingmaddie.com
“I really liked the way the various layers of the story untangled over the second half of the novel and the way they developed in part and from different perspectives weaving across time and in various threads, it really kept me engaged in the story... the locations and cultural references provided some great counterpoints to the story and familiarity with them also made it flow more easily. An amazing book." John Belchamber, Cambridge
“I really liked the build up to the story, being introduced to all of the characters and getting a feel for what they were like. Tina Seskis's books are so easy to get into and I read the whole thing in a day. The author did a great job of knitting all of the strands together and keeping them intertwined and believable. There are parts of this book which are very dark and I genuinely felt for the characters affected. An enthralling read.” Natalie Minto, Leeds
"I finished it over two days and was up till 2 in the morning reading - so I was gripped! I enjoy a storyline where the characters' present actions are intermingled with the unfolding of past actions. All the characters were pretty compelling and I definitely cared enough to keep on reading. There was a point where I almost felt there were too many secrets (albeit this was at the two in the morning stage - where I wanted to go to sleep but also wanted to find out more) but I think I had reached a bit of a reading frenzy and when I came back to it the next day there was a satisfaction in the last third/quarter of the book where you hit a tipping point of it all coming out. I was absolutely flying through it and I really enjoyed the language, descriptions, analogies etc. In my view this is a novel that can easily hold its own among other stuff I read and is a lot better than much of it."
