In this delightful tale, Penny Pangolin is buzzing with excitement. The annual village festival is here, filling the air with laughter, music, and the irresistible aromas of various delicacies. Penny's dear friend Vin, a fellow pangolin, is visiting just in time for the festivities. Together, they dream of one day hosting their own food booth, showcasing Vin's special rock soup - a pangolin delicacy that's not just delicious but essential for their digestion.

But amidst the fun of ring-toss games, concerts by the Singing Gibbons, and racing with chopsticks, a culinary misadventure strikes! Penny's curiosity leads her to try a mysterious dish that soon leaves her feeling unwell.

With her scales itchy and her stomach in knots, it's up to Vin to whip up a batch of his famous rock soup to soothe her tummy and lift her spirits.

As they navigate this hiccup, Penny and Vin don't just learn about the importance of knowing what's in their food, but they also strengthen their bond, proving that friendship and caring are the best remedies.

At the end of the book, don't miss the special section about pangolins, their critical endangerment, and how each one of us, no matter our age, can contribute to their conservation. There's also a page showing all the background critters hidden throughout the book's illustrations, making sure to engage your child even more.

Kids ages: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 will enjoy joining Penny and Vin in their culinary adventure and learning how even the smallest of us can make a big difference in our world, one bowl of rock soup at a time!

Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup is an appealing and colorful illustrated book for kids by Wayne D. Kramer. Released 13th March 2023, it's 32 pages and is available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free. The other books featuring Penny and friends are also currently available on KU.

This is a fun short story featuring pangolins Penny and Vin attending a local fair to see the attractions and sample the foods on offer. The book is peppered throughout with neat trivia (pangolins eat rocks to help digest the food they eat) and small illustrated details and lettered signs with fun make-believe foods that the village animals have made.

The art by Jade Zivanovic is rendered electronically and is balanced, whimsical, colorful, and appealing. The drawings are full of small details which invite readers to pause and take a closer look. In fact, the author/illustrator have hidden some animals and items in the pictures scattered throughout the book which invite readers to page through and find later.

It's not just a fun anthropomorphic animal adventure, the author has included information about species conservation (they're critically endangered in the wild) and the importance of helping protect wildlife and nature. They've provided links for further reading and a QR code for more content.

Five stars. Really cute short story with good messages. This would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, or gift giving.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Penny and her best friend Vin love the carnival festivities, with all the games, and yes, the food and snacks. Besides eating all the goodies, they needed to remember one important rule.

I SO enjoyed Penny and Vin’s trip to the carnival. This was a fun way to learn about what pangolins eat. Everyone needs a friend like Vin that can make them some rock soup. Perfect solution for a pangolin’s stomach ache! The illustrations are rich in color with much detail. I also liked the last few pages with extra info about pangolins and the ‘find the wildlife’ feature. To be enjoyed by young and old alike.

Penny Pangolin and the rock soup” marks the third book in a captivating young children’s series.
This time we see the return of Penny’s friend Vin who we first met in the story of the missing ant cake. After a day out eating at the carnival Penny finds herself feeling sick. Thankfully Vin has the perfect remedy, and once again I found myself learning more about pangolins while enjoying the latest story. Thanks for another entertaining story.

A veritable treat/exercise for the eyes to enjoy the panoply of characters and scenes of everything at the Annual Village Festival. It is a fine story and invites rereading. The publisher's blurb is more than helpful and I plan to find more of Penny's adventures.
The illustrations by Jade Zivanovic are fun, intricate, brilliantly colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on PDF from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you!

What a cute book! I learned so much about pangolins that I did not know- fun fact, this book helped me answer a Jeopardy question the other night. I am enjoying how conservation is an important undercurrent so many children's books and easy to learn and understand. The illustrations were adorable!

Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup is a cute story about a scaly anteater named Penny who with her friend Vin venture out to a village festival to sample the food and games.

Unfortunately for Penny, her adventurousness leads to a stomach disturbance. But have no fear, Penny’s friend Vin is here to save the day with his famous and delicious rock soup.

Part of the Penny Pangolin and Friends series, Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup not only provides an entertaining story, it also educates the reader on the life of a pangolin or scaly anteater. Children will learn that pangolins need to eat rocks to aid with their digestion. A fact that I didn’t know, but learned while reading the story.

The illustrations are adorable. However, I do think that it could have used more vibrant colors to capture the festive vibe.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and I’m sure it will become a favorite in a child’s library. Four stars.

I was invited to read a DRC from BooksGoSocial through NetGalley. This review is completely my own and reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.

This was a cute book about an anteater - an animal we don’t really see much of in children’s books so that was a plus. My children (4 and 6) enjoyed the story.

Penny ate the dreaded caterpillars and ended up with tummy ache! Not to fear though as her friend Vin had the perfect medicine for her - rock soup! They ended up with their own rock soup enterprise at the end for any others who accidentally ate caterpillars too.

The story was ok, the illustrations were detailed and lovely. My kids are looking forward to the other books.

A cute and colourful story about Penny and Vin Pangolin going to a fair. The art is beautiful and gives the story a lovely whimsical feel. I liked the addition of information about pangolins. This story promotes understanding of new animals and compassion towards them and provides lots of interesting facts

Some interesting facts about Pangolins. They are the only mammals that have scales on their body. They have favorite foods and foods that do not agree with them. Penny finds that out when the she goes to the carnival with Vic. However, Vic saves the day when Penny starts feeling bad. Like chicken soup for us, Rock soup for the Pangolins.

A special thank you to Books go Social and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

This is third book imhave read in the series. Hats off to the author and his cute names for the different foods. In this book Penny and her friend Vin go to the carnival and can’t wait to try all the delicious foods. The only thing that is bad for Pangolins are catapillars. I learned a lot more about Pangolins and was happy to see the author added more animals to the book. This is a cute bed time story for little ones and as usual the illustrations are beautiful.

Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup is an entertaining children's story chock full of great facts. During a festival, Penny becomes ill and the cure is quite a surprise. However, this is a jumping point for so much learning. There are some great resources and information regarding pangolins that kids will be curious to discover!

Another great book in this cute series. I love the friendship between Penny and Vin. There is a diversity of different animal characters living in this village. Thank you NetGalley and Heroes of Time Productions for the opportunity to read "Penny Pangolin And The Rock Soup" in exchange for my honest review.

The reader is treated to another adventure with Penny Pangolin. The story in intended for the 4 to 8 year old age group but I think younger children might enjoy it equally. The characters are adorable, the illustrations are colourful and eye-catching. You like them as soon as you see them.

This story is about kindness and helping others. Penny eats the wrong food at the fair and it gives her a tummy ache. Her friend Vin makes her his family recipe of Rock Soup.

The book has information on Pangolins at the end and helps children find various forms of wildlife in the story.
