In this installment of "Penny Pangolin and Friends," dive into the vibrant and bustling life of the village festival in "Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup," a tale filled with fun, food, and a dash of unexpected trouble, perfect for young readers who love The Berenstain Bears and Little Critter stories!

In this delightful tale, Penny Pangolin is buzzing with excitement. The annual village festival is here, filling the air with laughter, music, and the irresistible aromas of various delicacies. Penny's dear friend Vin, a fellow pangolin, is visiting just in time for the festivities. Together, they dream of one day hosting their own food booth, showcasing Vin's special rock soup - a pangolin delicacy that's not just delicious but essential for their digestion.

But amidst the fun of ring-toss games, concerts by the Singing Gibbons, and racing with chopsticks, a culinary misadventure strikes! Penny's curiosity leads her to try a mysterious dish that soon leaves her feeling unwell.

With her scales itchy and her stomach in knots, it's up to Vin to whip up a batch of his famous rock soup to soothe her tummy and lift her spirits.

As they navigate this hiccup, Penny and Vin don't just learn about the importance of knowing what's in their food, but they also strengthen their bond, proving that friendship and caring are the best remedies.

Echoing the familial warmth of The Berenstain Bears and the adventurous spirit of Little Critter, "Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup" combines an engaging narrative with educational elements, introducing young readers to unique aspects of animal diets and the importance of dietary awareness, not just for humans but for animals too.

At the end of the book, don't miss the special section about pangolins, their critical endangerment, and how each one of us, no matter our age, can contribute to their conservation. There's also a page showing all the background critters hidden throughout the book's illustrations, making sure to engage your child even more.

Kids ages: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 will enjoy joining Penny and Vin in their culinary adventure and learning how even the smallest of us can make a big difference in our world, one bowl of rock soup at a time!

Penny Pangolin and the Rock Soup is an appealing and colorful illustrated book for kids by Wayne D. Kramer. Released 13th March 2023, it's 32 pages and is available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free. The other books featuring Penny and friends are also currently available on KU.

This is a fun short story featuring pangolins Penny and Vin attending a local fair to see the attractions and sample the foods on offer. The book is peppered throughout with neat trivia (pangolins eat rocks to help digest the food they eat) and small illustrated details and lettered signs with fun make-believe foods that the village animals have made.

The art by Jade Zivanovic is rendered electronically and is balanced, whimsical, colorful, and appealing. The drawings are full of small details which invite readers to pause and take a closer look. In fact, the author/illustrator have hidden some animals and items in the pictures scattered throughout the book which invite readers to page through and find later.

It's not just a fun anthropomorphic animal adventure, the author has included information about species conservation (they're critically endangered in the wild) and the importance of helping protect wildlife and nature. They've provided links for further reading and a QR code for more content.

Five stars. Really cute short story with good messages. This would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, or gift giving.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Penny and her best friend Vin love the carnival festivities, with all the games, and yes, the food and snacks. Besides eating all the goodies, they needed to remember one important rule.

I SO enjoyed Penny and Vin’s trip to the carnival. This was a fun way to learn about what pangolins eat. Everyone needs a friend like Vin that can make them some rock soup. Perfect solution for a pangolin’s stomach ache! The illustrations are rich in color with much detail. I also liked the last few pages with extra info about pangolins and the ‘find the wildlife’ feature. To be enjoyed by young and old alike.

Penny Pangolin and the rock soup” marks the third book in a captivating young children’s series.
This time we see the return of Penny’s friend Vin who we first met in the story of the missing ant cake. After a day out eating at the carnival Penny finds herself feeling sick. Thankfully Vin has the perfect remedy, and once again I found myself learning more about pangolins while enjoying the latest story. Thanks for another entertaining story.

A veritable treat/exercise for the eyes to enjoy the panoply of characters and scenes of everything at the Annual Village Festival. It is a fine story and invites rereading. The publisher's blurb is more than helpful and I plan to find more of Penny's adventures.
The illustrations by Jade Zivanovic are fun, intricate, brilliantly colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on PDF from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you!
