Description
Angela has typical lottery-player plans: help friends and family, give more to charity, and escape her rut. But when she wins big, she faces angry relatives, her own unexpected greed, and a lawsuit from the person who put her in that rut. Almost nobody treats her normally, and they've got fifty million reasons not to.
She can buy anything she wants now, but can she buy the life she needs?
Advance Praise
"Fifty Million Reasons" hits the mark on so many levels. It's one of those rare books that pulls you in and makes you feel like you're a part of the story, while working the other way: trickling out into real life and forcing you to have those "what if..." thoughts. The characters are real people, with multiple dimensions. This book sparkles with a fun story line and just the right amount of introspection. Angela is a multi-dimensional character, and the layers that this book moves through with not only the main character, but with multiple characters makes it real, and completely engaging.
(Gail Allison, "Chick Lit Central")
Everyone dreams winning the lottery, but in "Fifty Million Reasons" Angela does just that. Once again, Heather Wardell creates a cast of characters that are more than just names on the pages, Angela, John and Zack become your friends and neighbors. Just as in any of Heather's other books, you live through Angela's struggles and triumphs as she deals with her newly won riches and you cheer her on all the way through....There are more than Fifty Million Reasons why you will love this book.
(Andrea, "A Chick Who Reads")
Undeniably thought provoking - "Fifty Million Reasons" shines a bright light on a universal fantasy and elevates the phrase "careful what you wish for" to an entirely new level. Softly romantic in unexpected ways, this brilliantly paced offering from my favorite thinking woman's author had me riveted from beginning to end.
(Donna P., "Bookishly Attentive")
Captivating. Eye-opening. Impossible to put down!
(Marlene Engel, founder of Book Mama Blog)
What would you do if you won more money than you could possibly dream of? Wardell's latest asks this question and the answer is poignant, thought-provoking and often surprising.
( Jonita Fex, "The Book Chick")
Can fifty million dollars turn a generous person into a miser? Heather Wardell's "Fifty Million Reasons" explores not just how winning the jack pot can change a person, but how it can unexpectedly change everyone else around them. Wardell creates a compelling space for readers to experience Angela's joy as well as personal and moral conflicts about money and how to use it, leaving us asking, "if I became an overnight millionaire, what kind of millionaire would I be?"
(Christine Demore, "Bitch Lit Blog")
Wardell excels at creating likeable characters whom I can always easily relate to. It's easy to see myself in her characters, imagining how I'd react in their situations. That's my favorite thing about contemporary fiction: that escape into the characters.
Wardell writes emotional, moving stories that never fail to make me look at my own life differently, and often compel me to change my behavior (which is no easy feat, and certainly not something I expect when I pick up a fiction novel).
Whether it's looking at my spending habits (inspired by "Good to Myself"), standing up for myself (like Larissa in "Pink is a Four-Letter Word") or giving generously to others, like Angela in "Fifty Million Reasons", I always finish Wardell's books with the inspiration to make a positive change in my own life. I love that her writing convicts me like that!
