Because of Luke is a bittersweet New Adult tale that begins in the Summer of 1991. This book is Contemporary Fiction and does not contain a HEA. It is the first book in the Lewiston Blues Series/Black Family Saga.
Music, love and sibling rivalry…all Because of Luke.
Three years ago, Shannon was a wild child. Parties, boys. You name it, she did it. But she's changed and the only way to truly turn things around is to finish college and hop on a plane to…anywhere else. Until an unexpected encounter throws her off track.
Sheila’s been covering for her big sister for as long as she can remember. Now it’s her turn. But her rebellious plans don’t include small-town fun. She’s got her eye on something better—a group of budding rock stars and a summer-long tour.
In the middle of the sisters lands Luke, a determined college student who’s pretty sure he just met his soulmate. But loyalty to his big brother means leaving her behind to go on a three-month tour with his band. Desperate to get over the girl, he soon becomes entranced with the groupie who’s come along for the ride only to find he’ll have to make a tough choice—and not without breaking some hearts along the way.

About the Author
F.X. Scully loves romance, but she doesn't write your typical Happily Ever After. Because let's face it, in the real world, it can sometimes take a lot of angst and pain before you get there. And some of us never do. But since most of us pick up books to escape the real world, her stories don't lack hot boyfriends and sexy encounters. Neither will she leave you completely heart broken, sobbing into a tub of ice cream. Rest assured you'll be on a roller coaster, but you'll be glad you went along for the ride.
F.X. is the author of TWO THOUSAND 3 (November 2013), BECAUSE OF LUKE (February 2014), BLACKOUT (April 30) & BLACK ROSE (June 30).

K first thing first reviewing for NETGALLEY and BOOKS TO CURL UP WITH BLOG.
I liked this books, its set in the 90's and those people who were young back then know all about teenage angst. This book is a real tear jerker so have a box of tissue beside you. Trust me you so will need it This story is about two sets of siblings both with their own sets of problems. Sheila and Shannon are the quintissentual preachers daughter. Who have kind a gone bad in their own ways. Sheila loves to party and loves rock n roll, Shannon is trying so hard to put that past her and build a life away from their overbearing parents. Then there is Luke and Roscoe Black hot brooding band members. Luke can become a rock legend if he wants to be but all he wants is to have a normal life . When Shannon and Luke meet for the first time there is an instant attraction . But when Roscoe comes to Luke with a offer he can't refuse the relationship he started with Shannon, is put on hold . As Sheila and the boys travel the country . Shannon is left at home and when hell breaks loose will the love be enough to get Shannon and luke through This is not your happily ever after . It is raw and you will have that ugly cry, So if you like a good rock and roll bad boy book with a raw crying ending , this is the book for you

Because Of Luke was....well...really darn good. I'm having a hard time actually finding the right words, especially after just finishing the book. The story is written in three different POVs, which I usually dislike, but found that it was written so well that is added that much more to the story.
There is so much going on, so many ups and downs, that by the time you finish the book you're left feeling used, abused, crushed and even slightly hopeful. Hopeful that these people will finally find some type of HEA before life (or themselves) screw it up all over again.
Each character was perfect, had so much depth and personality. Who doesn't love the flawed, tattooed, bad boy rockstars? Or the I-want-to-be-bad good girls? Or the beautiful young woman desperately trying to find herself, but end up rebelling beyond your biggest expectations? Plus some steamy, steamy sex scenes. *swoon!*
*Warning* This isn't a HEA story. And it's NOT a standalone. The ending COULD possibly piss you off..but I loved it. It was exactly what I thought was needed. But I hated it. But I loved it.
I can't wait for the next book!

The Way I See It
Egads! This book promised me a roller coaster of a ride and let me tell you! No lies there! Luke is a dream guy but he really gets run over, my heart broke for him. I ate this book up, definitely a page turner so much stuff happens its unbelievable. Set in 1991, it was a lot of fun to read all of the 1990 references! I'm looking forward to seeing this series continue because as it stands things are not looking good at the bat cave.
B-and, Luke has other dreams but he owes his brother so much he will have to put his life on hold just a bit longer.
E-ncounter, Shannon meets super sexy Luke and they have an instant connection.
C-areless, Shannon makes a mistake and disappoints her best friend. A-ngry, Sheila is tired of living under her parents thumb she is determined to go live her dreams.
U-nwanted, Sheila's dreams would be complete if she could land her dream guy.
S-econd chance, Shannon makes a difficult decision because she is afraid.
E-scape, the life Luke is living is wild and fast. Pretty soon he will make a rash decision because of his broken heart.
O-pportunity, Dave has a history with Shannon he will offer her a chance at a peaceful life. F-ate, comes crashing down on everyone at dinner. Luke realizes why his feelings are the way they are.
L-ove, is a mystery and a puzzle Shannon realizes her mistakes and is willing to work things out.
U-nknown, Sheila is young and ambitious feelings she thought were a mistake start to re-surface.
K-nife, Luke is granted an amazing gift and at the same time his heart will bleed for what he has lost.
E-normity, things have come to light nothing will ever be the same.
This is full of painful events with lots of heart break and miscommunication. Not to mention the drama there is loads and loads of drama. Luke's brother is broken but I want to see him happy. I know who I want him to be with, and I'm crossing all of my fingers and toes in the hopes of it coming true. This is Luke's story so I want him to be everything I know he can. I was really heartbroken at the end and wished for a different outcome but alas it did not work out that way. The steamy scenes were extra steamy. Scully knows how to hook a reader and keep em captivated.
My Rating
3.5 Lewiston, Library, Ice cream, Roof top, Seattle, Bus, Hotel, Ranch, Rat, Harley, Jail, Reflection filled stars. For a drama filled sexy read pick this book up!

3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS
I really enjoyed this book. I didn't really expect to love something that was set back in the 90's because that's like eight years before I was even born so I was a little bit iffy on this story. But I loved how F.X. Scully portrayed Shannon and Shelia as these sisters who are so close, yet they're so different.
Sheila bothered me at times, especially when she was trying to get into Luke's pants and he was clearly not interested. I mean, she went full-on stalker mode at sometimes but heck, I loved it. You go Sheila!
Shannon was so relatable. She was a good-girl reformed. Used to be a bad-girl before her sister Sheila decides to take on that title and run away so she can manager for Luke and his brother's band.
There were minor errors in the book, just minor ones where the author would mix up a word with a different one and the sentence wouldn't make sense. But, other than that this book was amazing and I looked forward to reading more from F.X. Scully!

Because of Luke F.X. Scully Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
Rocker romance, always sounds good :) So I asked for this to review. Shannon, she's gone from wild child before we met her to consummate good girl, covering up for her sister Sheila, who's taken over the wild child mantle. Their parents – deeply religious, repressive, avid church goers, dad is a reverend and they expect the girls to toe their line, even though Shannon is 21 and Sheila 17....It all has to bust somewhere doesn't it? Shannon meets Luke – in conversation she gives her views on bands, Sheila is currently lusting after one particular band, and its coloured her view of the people involved. Luke's in a band...but he likes Shannon, more than likes her, so he keeps quiet about it. They get close, very close, then he needs to tour for three months, so he makes an excuse about family to Shannon to explain why he's away. I liked Luke to begin, but over time he changed so much, made some bad decisions and I could see what was going to happen. I got so invested in the story I wanted to scream “ don't – don't do it...” but he did...and of course there's repercussions. Its a good story when it makes me feel that way! His brother Roscoe had given up so much for Luke after their parents were jailed, that Luke now felt obligated to go touring with the band even though he really wanted to finish school, and it meant leaving Shannon. Poor Shannon, her parents had been pushing her at another boy, one they approve of and all she wants is Luke. She doesn't see how it'll work with him away, and though they try at first with phone calls and a visit it gradually all falls apart. I really like Shannon, she's trying to please everyone but herself, but I think she could have tried harder for Luke. I felt he gave up on them too easily too – and too quickly tried to move on despite still having feelings for her. Sheila meanwhile has been running the bands fan club for two years, and gets the tour managers job, in the midst of a row she tells her parents she's off and goes...Shannon cops the blame for not keeping her closer, and for covering for her. Sheila thinks Shannon told her parents deliberately where she was to avoid heat herself...so the girls aren't speaking. . I didn't like Sheila to begin, and by the end I still didn't like her. I found her selfish, though she needed to be that, and very thick skinned to fill the role she wanted. Roscoe, as big brother and band leader, really plays a secondary role much of the while, providing background for the other three characters. There's a slow build up where the reader can see what's coming, train crash voyeurism.... and when things finally came to a head – well, they really went bang. I understood Shannon's decision, though I disagreed with it – once again she's trying to please everyone – though of course secrets have a way of getting out. I really, really didn't like the end, and I HATE, HATE, HATE cliffhangers, and this has a massive one. To be honest what happened at the end came as a real, unwanted shock, I’ve only seen a similar plot once before and I hated it them too :( I just cant see how the story can move forward in a direction I'll enjoy, now the ultimate ending I wanted has been rules out. But I'll prepared to be surprised, as book two is out this summer. I'm not sure if that's the final one, or if there's a book three planned. Again I need to know these things as reader when buying, because when the story is unfinished and I don't know when it will be, or how much the complete version will cost it affects my decision. I feel stories broken into separate books don't work so well for me, I lose the feeling of being “in” the book with the characters, and prefer to read duos/trilogies back to back once all parts are out, and I know what it will cost me. I know others feel differently but I also know there are many who feel as I do. It's fabulously long at 474 pages for just £1.85 on kindle so a real bargain, and that length really means we got to see characters and plots to the fullest extent. Stars: Difficult, if it was a complete book with the ending I wanted ( ha.. I know its author story not mine) I'd have gone five as the writing and story is full of emotion and drama, but divided and with the current position having taken my ending out I have to bring it down to a four.

This book had me all over the place emotionally. I don't even know where to start. I liked both Sheila and Shannon. I did like Shannon more though. Sheila seemed a little too spoiled in the beginning but my views on her changed. I even liked Luke and his older brother, even if I thought he was an a-hole a lot of the time. The biggest thing for me was even though I was mentally screaming at parts during this book, this book reeled me in. I couldn't stop reading. When I knew things were going to change between Shannon and Sheila I was heart broken because relationships shouldn't have to change the way they did. I didn't agree with what Shannon did but she did it for her sister whom she loved so much. I liked Luke too and my heart broke for him at the end of the book.
So there were parts I didn't like. Those were ones that clashed with my moral compass. However, the actions were true to the characters and since the characters didn't know everything, I had to let it go. The ending of the book was so unexpected I didn't see it coming. I'm glad there's going to be a second book so I can pick up and see what's going on with everyone.
If you're a fan of lots of drama and don't mind a cliff hanger, than this New Adult book is perfect for you. You're either going to love it or hate it, but you sure won't be able to stop reading it!

I AM IN LOVE!! I am so glad I found this book. This is not your typical romance & doesn’t have your typical perfect ending tied in a pretty red bow. I personally don’t like when a blurb states whether the story has a HEA or not but in this cases it only made me want to read it more. Towards the end I was trying to figure out where the story was going & was so shocked by the ending that even weeks later I am still thinking about it. This is so much more than a love triangle & really gets you thinking about so many things. Because Of Luke follows sisters Shannon & Sheila and brothers Luke & Ross through their journey of love & loss. I’m both excited & anxious to read the next books in the series. As soon as I finished BOL I ran to GR & read whatever other blurbs were available AND not only do I want ALL the books now, I also want to slap several characters in the face and find myself torn over how I want this series to progress.
