“The Dream Haunters” is a mysterious and cozy fantasy novel by Megan Mary, who builds a magical world where navigating the thin veil between dreams and reality helps unlock the secrets of the past.
We meet Hannah, a girl who is a bit down on her luck and seems lost in her life until she receives a cryptic letter from her estranged aunt Jewelia. She finds out that her aunt has gone missing and is filled with a sense of purpose once again to help locate her, while hoping to fill in the blanks about the woman she was never able to know. She travels to the town of Maple Hollow, an island that is home to an eternal autumn, where she will discover who she was always meant to be.
Hannah’s journey is one of growth and self-discovery. On the road to unlocking the mysteries behind her aunt’s disappearance, she starts to discover all the magic of the island and her heritage. Behind it all, she must look deep into her dreams, knowing that they hold the key to the answers she seeks. The veil between Hannah’s dreams and reality gets thinner as the story progresses, and her battle between good and evil will rely on what she can unlock while she slumbers. Not only suspenseful, this novel is equally charming. Maple Hollow is home to the famous Halloween Festival, and Hannah arrives just in time for her favorite holiday. We are immersed in crunchy leaves, mystical pumpkin patches, enchanting feline friends, and a crisp autumn wind on the island. Megan Mary’s writing is engaging and descriptive, bringing every scene to life.
I enjoyed this story on audiobook, and the narrator does a beautiful job of bringing it to life. Every character has a personality, and she brings something special to the suspenseful moments in the story.
I found “The Dream Haunters” to be a perfect book to read during the autumn months. It was exciting and easy to get enveloped in the story. While it’s suggested for the New Adult group, I think that Young Adults would benefit from this coming-of-age story as well. It is a lightly supernatural world, perfect for anyone looking to get an introduction to a fantasy book. The shorter length and chapters make it a quick read, and with the added bonus of whimsical talking cats, this cozy fantasy mystery has something for everyone. So grab your pumpkin spice latte and a warm blanket, and get ready to travel to Maple Hollow!
Hannah has been receiving cryptic messages from her Aunt Jewelia who has gone missing. As she returns to her family manor, she begins to uncover the mysteries behind her disappearance while revealing elements of herself in the process.
Pearl Hewitt, the narrator, does an amazing job at bringing forth the atmospheric elements of Megan Mary’s Maple Hollow to life. It’s incredibly vivid in autumnal elements with pumpkin patches, a famous Halloween Festival, apple cider and much more. That’s what gripped me. It was almost as if I felt the crisp air and warmth of the crackling fireplace as I listened. One can feel being wrapped in the spiritual journey, visions, and dreams Hannah experiences.
This is advertised as New Adult but it definitely fits more under the Young Adult genre. Not only with the coming of age element but Hannah is extremely naive. She is a female heroine but she felt a bit lackluster to me. I did like Hannah’s journey of exploring her deep magical ancestry. The Dream Haunters themselves were vey brief and I wish we had more time with them.
“The Dream Haunters” is the perfect fast paced coming-of-age halloween/autumn read for cozy mystery lovers.
Thank you NetGalley. Megan Mary & Inner Realms Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you NetGalley for the audio arc of the dream haunter it’s a fantasy witchcraft story cosy I fully enjoyed listening to it quick and fast paced listen kept me going while I was working and traveling to work :) 4 stars
Hannah, reminds me of the Charmed ones, however she at and adult age has been receiving mysterious and cryptic messages from her Aunt Jewelia, who recently disappeared under strange circumstances. As Hannah returns to her family’s manor, she starts to unravel the secrets surrounding her aunt’s disappearance, all while discovering hidden truths about herself and her family’s past. This story would particularly appeal to readers aged 12-18, as it blends the intrigue of a young person uncovering family mysteries with the personal growth and self-discovery typical of coming-of-age stories.
Narrated by Pearl Hewitt, the audiobook brings the haunting and atmospheric setting of Megan Mary’s Maple Hollow to life. The vivid descriptions of the autumn season, complete with pumpkin patches, apple cider, and the famous Halloween Festival, capture the cozy yet eerie ambiance. The narration immerses listeners into the crisp fall air and the warmth of a crackling fireplace, making it easy to feel part of Hannah’s spiritual journey, visions, and dream-like experiences.
Though the book is categorized as New Adult, it feels more suitable for a Young Adult audience. Hannah’s character, while heroic, comes across as somewhat naive, a common trait in younger protagonists. Her journey of exploring her magical ancestry and learning about her family’s powers provides engaging material for teens. However, the Dream Haunters, a mystical element within the story, are mentioned only briefly, and I wish they had been more developed.
The Dream Haunters is a fast-paced, coming-of-age mystery, perfect for teens who enjoy Halloween-themed stories with a cozy, magical twist. Ideal for readers who love the blend of mystery, magic, and self-discovery, this audiobook delivers a perfect autumn read.
"The Dream Haunters" by Megan Mary is an autumnal magical mystery about Hannah Skye's journey to find her missing Aunt Jewelia. After getting a strange letter, Hannah heads to Maple Hollow. It turns out to be a magical island that is in autumn forever. There, she discovers her family's magic and learns to jump between dreams and our world to rescue her aunt by Halloween night.
Mary's prose makes you feel like you're right there, crunching through leaves and breathing in the crisp autumn air. The mix of fantasy, mystery, and coming-of-age threads weave together beautifully. Hannah's journey to discover her powers is compelling, and the side characters are also fun, especially the talking cat dream guide. The whole 'dream haunter' concept is intriguing and keeps you invested. The book's pacing can be a bit off, with some parts feeling rushed. But, the story's charm and prose more than makes up for it.
If you're into cosy fantasy and spooky mysteries, this book is perfect for curling up with on an autumn day. It's great for young adults and anyone who wants a taste of fantasy without committing to a long series, or an overwhelming amount of mythology.
I listened to the audiobook version. I found the narrator to be very talented, and great with voices and expression. I feel she was a little bit of an odd choice. Her lovely soft voice can come across as older than the young main character, which drew me out of the story at times.
Thank you to Inner Realms Publishing and Net Galley for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
“The Dream Haunters” by Megan Mary is about as close to a fall beach read as you can get. Imagine sitting on a blustery dune, the wind whipping the gray waves, a thermos of hot cider nearby… You get the picture. This is the book you will want to read or listen to while bundled beneath your woolen cloak.
Hannah Skye has lost most everything she ever valued: her parents, her cat, her grandmother, and her job. Out of nowhere, she receives a letter and a plane ticket from her estranged aunt. The same day, she learns her aunt has disappeared. Immediately enmeshed in the mystery, Hannah sets out to Maple Hollow and her family’s ancestral Skye Manor. Maple Hollow exists in a state of perpetual fall, with pumpkins growing and the leaves on the trees in shades of orange, yellow, and red. There, she must uncover the truth of what happened to her aunt as well as find her own truth.
This was a very quick listen. The narrator, Pearl Hewitt, did a lovely job giving life to the different characters, even a tiny talking cat. The mystery is engrossing, and the cast of supporting characters offers both solace and menace to our main character. It’s fairly light as far as gothic-style stories go, and a novice in the area of astrology and witchcraft will appreciate the explanations, though sometimes a smidge pedantic, that Hannah receives from those wiser around her. These lectures can draw the reader out of the action, but the loss is not too great.
I enjoyed this quick, fun listen and wish I had more of it to launch me into autumn and toward Halloween. I received this audiobook from NetGalley.
"The Dream Hunters" is a magical, enchanting tale perfect for those who enjoy exploring dream interpretation, spiritual mysteries, and stories that blur the lines between reality and fantasy. Megan Mary’s vivid storytelling combined with Pearl Hewitt’s brilliant narration makes this audiobook a must-listen, especially for anyone looking to get lost in an imaginative, Halloween-inspired adventure.
Wow!.. Megan Mary really knows how to create a magical mystery!
This storyline had me gripped from the very beginning.. I don't want to say too much about the actual storyline and give the exciting bits away.
I absolutely loved the main character, for she is brave, strong and quite determined to find out what happened to our aunt. I love the clues that she left for her.
I loved the pumpkin aspect, I thought that was a really cool concept.
I think that this book is perfect for getting into the spooky / witchy / Halloween vibe!
Also I have to say I listened to this through netgalley and the narrator was just perfect for this story.
Short, spooky, sweet Halloween themed book!

Hannah Skye has just lost her job so when she receives an invite from her Aunt Jewelia, she has no reason not to travel to Maple Hollow. Her Aunt is missing and Hannah will try to help find her, at the same time finding all about herself and her destiny.
Well written and narrated (I listened to the audiobook). Interesting characters in this gently paced novel all about magic, spells, music and the relevance of dreams. Enjoyable novel.
This book is the perfect companion for an autumn day—imagine the crisp fall air, golden leaves drifting from the trees, and you curled up with a warm apple cider and a soft blanket. Its charm feels like bundling up in your favorite sweater while pumpkin-scented candles flicker nearby, wrapping you in that cozy, comforting feeling only autumn can bring.
I truly enjoyed this book as a lighthearted escape, offering a refreshing breather between the heavier novels that have been occupying my shelves. From the very beginning, the story pulls you in with the main character caught in the middle of a personal upheaval. Before she can even begin to sort through the chaos in her life, she learns that her estranged aunt has gone missing. Following her instincts, she sets off to her family’s ancestral home, hoping to find her aunt—and, in doing so, uncover a part of herself she didn’t realize was missing.
As the story unfolds, she encounters a delightful cast of characters who not only help her understand her aunt but also reveal new layers of her own strength and resilience. Watching her grow into her own feels like being wrapped in the warmth of a cozy autumn evening—a gentle, feel-good story that reminds you of the beauty in personal growth and discovery.
If you’re searching for an adorable autumn read that feels as comforting as a peaceful walk through crunchy leaves, this one is sure to hit the spot.
This was a fun quick read that is perfect if you want more of a cozy book to read for fall/Spooky Season. With a long lost aunt, magical pumpkin patch, a dreamworld, and talking cats, what else could you want? While I really enjoyed this book, I hope that the following books in the series really dig deep into character development and cementing those complex personalities that make the characters unique. I like Hannah and Jewelia well enough, but there is SO much potential for these characters and the series as a whole.
I did listen to this as an audiobook. I enjoyed the narrator’s voice, and thought she did a great job with the story. I also loved the bit about the author at the end of the book! I found it very interesting. Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself!
Overall, I’d rate this 4 stars. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I need ALL the talking cats! ❤️
🧚🏻 I just wanted to thank NetGalley, Inner Realms Publishing, and author Megan Mary for providing me with a free audio version of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.
Thank you to Netgalley for the Advance Reader Audiobook. I really enjoyed reading about Hannah and how she was able to discover her powers while trying to rescue her Aunt Jewelia. My favorite book quote in this book is... "Autumn is unmistakably mystical. Fog rolls in and the ground is dewy from the moist rain. Leaves show their true colors as the chlorophyll drains from their veins". I wish I can visit the town of Maple Hollow this Autumn. This book gives me the Halloween vibes.
This is a lovely audio book. The narrator has a very nice voice which makes it a joy to listen too, and is very good at distinguishing between the different characters. I was always aware of who is talking and enjoyed the different accents. For me personaly the speed was a bit slow, but that's what the speed up button is for.
The book itself is a cozy magical mystery that I enjoyed very much. A perfect book for autumn. However, I do not think this should be categorised as New Adult. Even if the main character is already working and done with her education, she behaves younger than she is. From the pacing and simplicity of the storyline I would market this as Young Adult.
Overall great read!
Summary
The story is about a girl named Hannah who gets a ticket from her aunt with whom she has not been in touch for ages. Her financial struggles convince her to visit Maple Hollow where she has to search for her aunt who has Disappeared and nobody knows where. The journey forms the crux of the story
My take:
The title is quite intriguing which coaxed me into picking this book. I like to thank the publisher for giving me an ARC for reading and reviewing through netgalley. The views expressed in the review are my own and I have not been paid for this. The title is quite different from anyone you would come across and the same is aligned to the story. After reading this book you can’t think of any other apt title.
The story is medium paced, not very fast but not too slow either. Story does seem stagnant at few places. Characterization is good and believable. While listening to the audio version the characters come to life. The descriptions are apt and doesn’t reveal too much leaving some room for the readers to picturize the story as per their imagination.
The book is not a regular story but about various dreams that one has and what it can mean to them. A concept that has rarely been explored. Any person who dreams a lot would definitely like this book. The author herself is a dream analyst, intuitive, and mystic which is quite interesting. I would definitely visit her website for more insights into the mystical dream world.
A light read for people who like to read about mystical topics.
The Dream Haunters was a cozy fall read about Hannah Skye who goes on a journey to Maple Hollow after news that an aunt has gone missing. Maple Hollow is where dreams meet reality in a magical quest filled with shapeshifters, ancient legacies, and the thin veil between worlds.
If you are a fan of The Good Witch or Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, you will enjoy The Dream Haunters by Megan Mary.
The story sticks with Hannah and her aunt in Maple Hollow. There is no love interest or romance. It is YA appropriate, if not YA leaning.
Overall, a cozy, quick read for pumpkin season.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
The Dream Haunters was a lovely autumnal, cosy read. . I listened to this book and loved the narrators voice, she read the book so well, making each character come alive.
Hannah goes on a journey to Maple Hollow after the news that her Aunt Jewelia has gone missing. At Maple Hollow Hannah is on a journey to find her Aunt and free her before the end of Halloween night. She has the help of local villagers and Midnight, a talking cat. There’s a magical pumpkin patch too!
I loved how the story has a deep message about life, I could connect to it so much. I related to the main character Hannah, her life, how she has always felt different in the world. Having a chronic illness and having had a spiritual awakening myself, I found this book so healing and soothing. I enjoyed hearing about the author, Megan Mary, at the end of the book.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the second book in the series. I hope in the next book there may be a little more character development, I’d love to learn more about them.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author, Megan Mary, for the eARC copy of this book.
A very enjoyable book. I enjoyed the uses of cats and believing in one’s self to achieve outcomes. I recommend this book for others who enjoy a witchy read. The story was well written and had a beautiful energy to it. I look forward to book two in the series.
This book is the epitome of a witchy read, perfect for anyone looking to cozy up with a cup of tea and enjoy a fall escape. The pacing is well-balanced, blending elements of mystery with a deep sense of self-discovery. The key iconography woven throughout adds layers of intrigue and symbolism, making it a satisfying thread in the story.
Hannah, the main character, truly shines as she embarks on her journey of learning to trust her intuition and embrace her identity as a witch. Her growth felt personal to me, reminding me of my own journey in trusting myself and connecting with ancestral wisdom. There are so many moments of magic and self-realization that really stand out.
While the ending didn’t quite live up to the rest of the story’s build-up, it doesn’t detract too much from the overall experience. I’d recommend this book to anyone seeking a magical, reflective read with a side of mystery. It’s a perfect companion for autumn evenings.
This is so different than what I expected. The way she wove spiritual awakening into this book was not only clever but creative. Very enjoyable read, and I look forward to the rest of the series.
This book was pure magic and I loved it. I am getting more into audio books inbetween reading and this is one that did not dissapoint and kept me from just listening to it into the background I found I had stopped what I was doing to envelop myself in the story.
I like stories like this. Uncovering family secrets, hidden legacy, travelling to an ancestral home, etc. I love the cozy fall atmosphere. I love Pearl Hewitt’s voice, so that was an added bonus. Hannah is a likeable FMC. This is a great Fall read.
Hannah has been having some strange dreams and when she heard her aunt has gone missing soon after she loses her job she wonders if it’s a sign. Returning to her aunts home the dream seem to take on new meaning and also become clearer. But will she be able to learn everything fast enough to save her aunt?
Firstly thank you @netgalley and @meganmaryauthor for providing me an ARC or lister copy.
I can’t believe I finished this in one sitting it was so good! Perfect for any spiritualists or fans of dream analysing.
Loved reading this during spooky season and am keen to find out what Hannah gets up to next!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
The Dream Haunters is a cozy mystery with great autumn Halloween vibes (perfect for the time I was reading it). Found family is a favourite trope of mine and I liked the magic world this story was set in and Hannah was an extremely likeable character. I look forward to continuing on with the story in book 2.
