Description
Say goodbye to LonePine, Wyoming, population 438, a typical small town in the American west with typical small town problems — romantic intrigues, warm beer and vampires.
When Lizzie goes missing on their wedding night, Tucker is forced to team up with his bloodthirsty Russian nemesis to find answers. Crashing through cowboy country, the vampire spirit world and wrecked salmon canneries, they confront an evil more ancient than even the undead — human greed — twisting science into something terrible. Can there be a happily-ever-after for a cowboy and vampire, or is their unusual love just a delusion?
Time to cowboy up.
Rough Trails and Shallow Graves is Book 3 in The Cowboy and the Vampire Collection.
Book 1: A Very Unusual Romance (also available on NetGalley)

Excerpt:
“Was it very hard to have your entire reality turned upside down?” Helmi asked. “You know, when you first found out about the vampires?”
“Sort of,” Lenny said. “I’m still a little upside down, and finding out new stuff all the time. I’m not sure it will ever get much easier. But I keep telling myself there are only a few things that matter in this world — love and friendship, and doing the right thing. Nothing changes that, not even when nightmares come true.”
“How did they meet?” Helmi asked.
“It was on account of him being the last cowboy in Wyoming,” Lenny said. “She was a reporter in her first life, her real life, and she met him on assignment. It never should have worked, even before she was, you know, turned into a vampire. And definitely not after. But somehow it did.”
Oley poured another shot and Lenny told them about the cowboy and the vampire, the clash of undead species and the special blood in Lizzie’s veins.
When he finished, Helmi said, “I thought I understood this world, a little a bit at least.” She looked out across the parking lot at the trailer. Her father was silent, unsure what to say next.
Inside the trailer, Tucker sat crouched down in the corner next to the door, his hand resting on her coffin.
She was safe now, at least for the time being. Tucker swore to himself that he’d beef up security tenfold. That little impromptu marriage in an unsecured truckstop, that kind of foolishness was over. With help from Lenny and Rurik, they would turn LonePine into a goddamn fortress. No other way out of this, he thought.
Advance Praise
“The prose here is sharp and to the point, much like the majority of the characters. With pulse-pounding action, ongoing intrigue over the fate of vampire-kind, and the tumultuous struggles of Tucker and Lizzie’s love story, Hays and McFall once again deliver a thoroughly entertaining novel for readers to sink their teeth into. Another worthy entry in this love-and-fangs series.” Kirkus Reviews

Book 3 of The Cowboy and the Vampire Collection, “Rough Trails and Shallow Graves” follows Tucker in a wild goose chase to find Lizzie who was abducted on their wedding night.
Together with Tucker’s friend Lenny, who is a weapons expert and the two vampires Elita and Rurik, this unlikely band of rescuers face the most ancient of evils – human greed.
In “The Cowboy and the Vampire: Rough Trails and Shallow Graves”, readers see the serious side, and sometimes philosophical side of Hays and McFall. Yes, there are still laugh out loud moments, but this time those moments are more for comic relief as the authors delve deeper into the inherent conflict between vampires and humans.
Are vampires and humans the new “East is east and West is west, and never the twain shall meet”? Or will Tucker and Lizzie represent the “two strong men stand[ing] face to face” to bridge that gap?
Even with this philosophical bent in the story, the romance between Tucker and Lizzie stays center stage. Their love for each other is a given; the question is will it survive Rudyard Kipling?

Gothic vampire western romance with humour.....part 3
These books just get better and better, while reading this, early on I just didn't want it to end I was enjoying it so much, the characters and the humour, I absolutely love the humour and I knew I'd be a bit lost when I'd finished since I've read 'Unusual' 'Blood' and now 'Rough' over a 4 day period. Now at first I didn't want this to end but the story was such that I literally couldn't read fast enough, I was reading while eating and when I should have been sleeping it's an odd feeling reading as fast as you can to find out what happens next yet wanting to read slowly so you don't get to the end.
On their wedding night Lizzie is kidnapped, Tucker has to team up with the 'Red Scare' better known as Rurik, the beautiful and funny Elita, my favourite Lenny and of course Rex. This really is an absorbing story and while difficult to read in places it managed to make me laugh almost at the same time I was wanting to cry.
Like I've already mentioned the humour is again brilliant, the characters fantastic and the story for this book is the strongest so far but it's also the most disturbing to read, I struggled in places, several places if I'm being honest but I just couldn't put it down. I will say, for me this has been the best book so far in what is proving to be an unusual but amazing series. When I started this book I assumed it was the last one in the series, this is obviously not the case, or at least I hope it's not...please it can't be the end, if it is then I'm not happy.

This is a great series to have and to read it great for vampire fans and readers just looking for some light humor and yet a great storyline with stronger characters and writing it would be this books

Once again I couldn't put down Rough Trails and Shallow Graves as Tucker fights to save Lizzie. I was stunned by the ending and hope and pray that the authors continue the story and re-unite the main characters. I have grown to love all the characters and really hope that there will be more.... Highly recommended reading!!
