Description

When the daughter of a billionaire Hollywood director is found murdered after what appears to be a kidnapping gone wrong, Los Angeles Special Trials prosecutor Rachel Knight and Detective Bailey Keller find themselves at the epicenter of a combustible and high-profile court case.

Then a prime suspect is revealed to be one of Hollywood's most popular and powerful talent managers -- and best friend to the victim's father. With the director vouching for the manager's innocence, the Hollywood media machine commences an all-out war designed to discredit both Rachel and her case. Killer Ambition is at once a thrilling ride through the darker side of Tinseltown and a stunning courtroom drama with the brilliant insider's perspective that Marcia Clark is uniquely qualified to give.

This a very good legal and trial thriller that hard put down until it's finished. ADA Rachel and homicide detective Baily are called to find the teenage daughter of billionaire movie director Russell who has been kidnapped. Russell has paid the ransom but Hagley has not been released. Evidence sounds mounts up that Hayley and boyfriend Brain planned the kidnapping to extort money from her father. Both teenagers are found dead many miles away from the ransom drop.
As the forensic information begans to come into play it shows Russell best friend Ian is the killer. The media explodes and much untruth information about both Detective Bailey and ADA Rachel is printed. Ian is arrested and Rachel prepares trail amid all news frenzy. The disappearance of Rachel's sister, Romy many years ago becomes out in the press upsetting Rachel. Much the forensic information is tainted by the defence. Will the jury convict or will Ian be found innocent?
The descriptions are clear and you can feel the emotions of characters. The story sticks the fact instead what the everone is eating or wearing I found the book hard to put down. This the best thriller I have read this year.

I had no idea where this book was gone, up until the last minute I wasn't sure who was really guilty or if Rachel Knight was going to win her case, it was great suspense and filled with so much drama, LOVED IT!!

Am really digging the Rachel Knight series - they are page turners filled with loads of twists and turns that will keep you reading late into the night. Loved this one!

Killer Ambition by Marcia Clark is book three of Rachel Knight. Again, the banter between Knight and Bailey is witty, sassy and true to life for two close co-workers friends. I also like the insight into their personal lives and conflicts with Drew and Graden. The dialogue makes these books so enjoyable to read. It is certainly not the crime committed that is enjoyable to read. They are tragic and horrible but written in a genuine and authentic way, including the news media frenzy surrounding celebrity tragedy.

I enjoy the investigative elements of the story more than the courtroom drama. However, I realize that without trials, no justice would ever be served.

Each of these books continues to get better and better, so that Bailey and Knight feel like friends, not just characters in a book. What will happen next with Rachel Knight, ready to find out?

I firmly believe that this series is one of the best of its subgenres: smart, modern female investigator solving crimes and catching criminals, and also of the legal procedural subgenre. Marcia Clark writes with deftness and wit. She was incredibly smart to start her series with books that focused primarily on the solve and the catch: in this one, she finally turns her attention to the intricacies of trial. Had she done this in an earlier book, it would have been easy to claim that she was looking to make a quick buck from her notoriety. Even I, who'd been lucky enough to escape the national obsession with the OJ Simpson trial, spent far too much time drawing parallels between the case on trial in this book with her most infamous case. It was involuntary and distracting, but after two books, I could rest assured that Marcia Clark was writing in service to a good story. And it really was (the revelation with Brittany sent a chill up my spine,) probably the best of the series so far. There were bits, of course, where I side-eyed Rachel's absolute certainty, but it's a forgivable flaw in a book that's generally even-handed in its treatment of characters. I'm really looking forward to reading The Competition next.

Another page turner! The story kept me guessing, and I really enjoyed the behind the scenes look at the politics of what goes on in a high-profile courtroom trial, particularly with jury selection. Very interesting stuff. Can't wait to start the next book in this series!

This is the first Marcia Clark book I've read, and the former prosecuter proves here that she can weave a good plot, create interesting characters, and keep me turning the page. Rachel Knight, the series protagonist is written with believability and an excellent voice. I will definitely read more in the series.
