A girl.
A coma.
A life she can't remember.
When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she's been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.
Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

I really liked the idea of Wide Awake (Book 1 in the Wide Awake series) by Shelly Crane but admit I was a little concerned it sounded similar to Don't Look Back by Jennifer L Armentrout (Although in that it wasn't a coma but there was still an incident that caused the memory loss). However, I needn't have been as Wide Awake really is a unique story on its own and very enjoyable.

Having read other books before by Shelly Crane and not been able to get into them. I think that Wide Awake goes to prove that some times its not about the style of writing but the actual story its self that can make you enjoy a book and that was the case for me with Wide Awake.

Emma is a really nice character. I liked her from the get go, even when she was scared about not knowing who she was, she seemed strong willed and like she didn't want to give up. I loved her though pattern and the little useless facts at the start of each chapter made me giggle! They were a nice addition.

Mason is our hot male lead but he also has a past and it fits well with the story. I liked that he wasn't the typical bad boy (If you'd call him a bad boy at all as I wouldn't) and how he seemed more conflicted about Emma than at times he let on.

The story has some nice twists and turns and it does leave you wondering what happened to Emma and would she ever remember who she was and lastly when/if she did, what Emma would she be? I loved the ending, liked that it answered much of what we needed to know but also left a little out there too for us to draw our own conclusions.

I read this in 2 sitting and thoroughly enjoyed Wide Awake. Its a perfect read for those who enjoy the YA genre, but would also say those who enjoy the New Adult genre too would enjoy this - it seems to sit nicely in between the 2. 4 out of 5 stars from me, I will definitely be checking out further books in the series.

Wide Awake pulled me in with its intriguing premise and the hint of an epic romance just waiting to happen. It follows the life of Emma Walker as she wakes up from a six month coma with amnesia. She has parents, a boyfriend, and friends all expecting her to embrace her past; the way she used to be. But Emma wants to be herself, and only her amazingly-gorgeous-only-23-years-of-age therapist understands. You see? Romance just waiting to blossom.

I felt quickly drawn by Crane's writing style as it was easy to follow with enough description to be satisfied and not overwhelmed or lacking. The whole idea of the book just sounded too good to pass up. Imagine waking up from a coma and having no recollection of who you are. All the while, having a smoking hot therapist as your savior?

I liked our protagonist Emma. I felt that she was strong and very likable. Of course, she had moments where she broke down, but she always remained headstrong and never gave up on the things that she felt passionately about... like Mason. Mason is the hot therapist, guys. He is one of the sweetest sweetie pies I have ever come across in a story. He is also the only guy I've read about who is ticklish... which made him so much more appealing too. HE'S TICKLISH! IT'S JUST SO REALISTIC. I LOVE HIM. Come on, you never hear about the masculine and strong guy in the story being ticklish... it just works.
image Through the book Emma has to put pieces together of who she wants to be, and the people around her have to decide whether they can accept her even if she doesn't regain her memories and change back into the person they once loved. I was engaged throughout and didn't want to put it down. Luckily, there is a sequel Wide Spaces, and a companion novel about one of the other characters featured in this book called Wide Open.

This is a solid four for me. I would recommend Wide Awake to those contemporary junkies out there who can completely engulf themselves in a beautiful, I-wish-this-were-real kind of romance. I haven't read anything else by Shelly Crane but I sure will soon!

So before I begin my review. I must say I picked up a bunch of different books to read. I couldnt get into reading any of them. Thus starts my reading rut. This book however got me out of my reading rut.

This story from beginning to end was absolutely amazing. From beginning to end no dull moments. I love stories abot amnesia. Although I would hate to have it. There is something raw and very emotional about someone having it. Going through the day not remembering everyone. But remembering songs and books and every day posessions but not remembering people and what they did together. The characters made like I was there inside the story living Emma's life. Emma is so emotional, so unattached to everything. Trying to live a life that she doesnt remember. Because of her amnesia. Her boyfriend Andy at the time is so needy and so mean and cruel and very popular. Mason comes in and saves everything. I fell in love with these characters. I got so emotionally attached. This is a very emotional very beautiful story. This is my first story by this author, I cannot wait to read more by her. I was so excited to find out that there is a book 2 I cant wait to continue with these characters. Finding out what happens. Im gonna give this book some drama, emotionally tragic beautiful love story.

I enjoyed this book. It focuses on Emma, a girl who wakes up after 6 months in a coma with no clue who she is, remembering nothing and recognising nobody.
She tries to reconnect with her old life despite not feeling like the old Emma, her parents and ex boyfriend are desperate for her to remember and be like herself again but things don't feel right.
Its really terrifying to think of waking up and literally having no clue about who you are so I really felt for Emma and while I think the ending of this book was a little too polished and perfect I did enjoy reading it. It turns out there is a sequel and I will certainly check it out.

What would you do if you woke up one day and didn’t remember anyone? Not the people in your life, the milestones ….absolutely NOTHING!! This is the reality that Emma Walker must face.

For six months Emma lay in a coma. The result of a hit and run that has never been solved. Upon waking, Emma is faced with the realization that she doesn’t know who she really is. Nothing is familiar to her. Not the people that claim to be her parents. The guy that strolls in claiming to have been her boyfriend doesn’t ring a bell. No memories flood her mind.

Everyone is swarming around Emma, pushing her to remember their ‘Emmie’. All Emma wants to do is get her strength back and get mobile again. There is one constant that is helping her push through…..Mason. As Emma’s physical therapist, Mason has been with her everyday during the coma. Now that Emma is awake, Mason offers a sense of security that Emma can’t find in anyone else.

As Emma pushes to gain back the things she lost, she discovers that she may not want to become the Emmie that everyone expects. In fact, she believes she has been given the gift of a lifetime….a clean slate.

Wide Awake is an amazing and original story. There are so many layers that add to the complexity of the story, but these nuances give this novel the depth that makes it truly unique. While reading, you can’t help but feel the turmoil that Emma is going through. After all….could YOU imagine losing every memory you posses? Every single page pulled me further into Emma’s story and I devoured each and every word!! Readers will discover the true meaning of a second chance at life.
