Description

Hollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.

Retired action star Levi Pritchard has made a quiet life for himself in the sleepy logging town of Bluewater Bay, Washington. But then Hollywood comes to film the wildly popular television series Wolf’s Landing, and Bluewater Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore. His retirement doesn’t stick, either, because he’s offered a part on the show—exactly the kind of complex role he’d always wanted, one that would prove him more than a glorified stuntman. The only catch? He has to stay in the closet—no matter how attractive he finds his co-star.

Carter Samuels is the critically-acclaimed male lead on Wolf’s Landing. And now, the man who inspired him to take up acting—and made him realize he’s gay—is joining the cast, and sparks fly between them instantly. But Carter is out and proud and determined to stay true to himself.

Remaining just friends is the only thing to do, as both the studio and Levi’s disapproving, dysfunctional family keep reminding them. Except their friendship deepens by the day, tempting them with what they can’t have but both desperately need.

Hollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.

The last couple of books I have read by L.A. Witt had lots of action, adventure, and suspense, as well as being character driven. This one was a totally character driven contemporary romance. I loved it!

As the name Starstruck may indicate, this story revolved around the world of Hollywood. Levi Pritchard has been type cast as an action hero movie star – “a glorified stuntman with lines” – and has been unable to get taken seriously as an actor. Add to that a family that puts the “dis” in dysfunctional and an industry that kills an action hero who is gay, and we have a frustrated star leaving it all behind for the peace of small town Bluewater Bay in the beautiful Pacific Northwest – not far from Forks in fact. *grin* I love the Pacific Northwest! *sigh*

Levi is doing reasonably well, directing the local community theater group and taking care of his two roommates, Link and Zelda. Link and Zelda were a couple of my favorite secondary characters in this story. They were “opinionated,” empathetic, discriminating, and about 20 pounds – each – of Maine Coon cat. Loved them!

Then TV show Wolf’s Landing, starring Carter Samuels, comes to town and disrupts Levi’s nice safe, quiet little world. Not only is Levi offered the roll of his dreams in this series, but Carter is HOT!

What does a guy do when his career and family hinge on him staying in the closest, but the man of his dreams refuses to be a “dirty little secret?” The back and forth angst of this story is amazingly well done. This story kept me riveted, and when I had to take a break for a little sleep, I actually dreamed of it. That doesn’t really happen that often, and when it does, the dreams don’t stay with me like this one has. The first thing I did when I woke up, us dive right back into the story and finish it. I couldn’t wait to see how things were going to be resolved for Levi and Carter.

I loved how it ended. Both characters grew and came to a better understanding of themselves, each other, and what was important in their lives. Who can ask more than that?

I see that this is part of a series, but each story is written by a different author. How exciting! I can’t wait to read the other stories to see what each author brings to the small community of Bluewater Bay and to set to Wolf’s Landing. I need to go read now.

An outstanding portrayal of how hard many people try to suppress themselves in order to please others and the journey they go on to come to terms with themselves. I enjoyed the way the relationships between all the characters felt natural, they didn't feel like they were forced to be together, their story just unfolded at a natural pace.
