When you are faced with challenges, what matters most is how you choose to deal with them. That determines your fate...

Her life seemed perfect...
Her best friend since childhood, was like a sister to her. Wherever she'd go, her best friend Christina, was usually nearby. It should have been a wonderful beginning into adulthood during her freshman year of college. Unfortunately, two horrible nights would shake her world to the core.
Innocence would be stolen, lives would be shattered
and a young life is lost. Nothing would ever be the same again for Daniela.

Daniela Franco stopped trusting others after a horrible ordeal she experienced, at the hands of people within her own hometown. With a past that relentlessly continues to control her life, she decides to protect herself by never allowing anyone to get close enough to destroy her world again.

For the past few years, focusing on work and school, staying away from the wild-college parties and keeping a tiny circle of friends, has kept her safe. But life has a way of changing things.

Her secrets from the past begin to slowly resurface, threatening to rock her world again in the dark and destructive ways it had years earlier.
Can Daniela face the demons from her past, when they are determined to finish what was started?
Will the people she has begun opening up to, be able to survive her secrets as well as their own?

With new friendships, chances to build trust again, the possibility of finding love and experiencing intimacy the way it is meant to be,
changes are certain.

Daniela must try to live with what she lost and with what will soon be found...

I obtained this book via NetGalley and the Author in exchange for an honest review. This is the first novel written by this author.

Daniela had a bad experience at college in her hometown, which made her very cautious of getting close to members of the opposite sex. To make matters worse, her best friend was raped and murdered around the same time.

She moved away from her hometown to continue her studies and to escape the bad experiences and memories. She now dressed down and wore very little makeup, if any at all. She also kept to herself as much as she could. She threw herself in her studies and worked in a coffee house when she was not studying. She didn't even socialise.

She met Nathan one evening, whilst she was working and they became good friends even though their feelings for each other were more than friendship. Nathan was very kind and considerate and as they interacted more with each other, she divulged her past to him. Then along came Alex, who was drawn to her and she decided to date him, whilst keeping her friendship with Nathan.

At that point, I felt that she was very selfish and totally insensitive to Nathan's feelings. There was a part of Alex's life, which was not so desirable and consequently led to tragic consequences. I found it difficult to warm up to Daniela during that time. Then her life became more complicated, when she was attacked one night and discovered that she had a stalker.

There were quite a few twists and turns along the way and eventually, the main person responsible for her best friend's rape and murder was caught. It turned out that he was the same person responsible for what happened in to her in the past as well as being her stalker. I did warm up to Daniela eventually.

The thing I liked most about this novel was the way Nathan honoured their friendship and the support of the few friends she had throughout all her difficult times.

This book is suitable for 18+ as it contains rape scenes, drug dealing and some violence otherwise it's a fairly good read considering, this is this author's first novel. My Rating is 3.5 out of 5.

I received this story from NetGalley. I really did enjoy this story. It was pretty predictable. But overall it was a very good story. The writing style is easy to read. It talks alot about friendship, which even friends can turn on you. Best friends, you think you know a person and you never know what can happen. I like knowing some people are trustworthy. You go through childhood with somebody and you think you know them. Lots of romance and sex, although I dont mind it some people do. It wasnt 50 shades crazy but it was pretty steamy. There was also some mystery. During the end it captivated me and I couldnt stop reading. So it was really a good story. Everything that this character Daniela goes through is insane. Before the story starts her back story. Its just hard to believe that some people can be so cruel. But during the story as much as she goes through, its unbelievable. Being in her final year of college you would hope it would be smooth sailing. But when is life ever smooth. She overcomes so much. Finds herself. Finds different relationships. She becomes such a strong character in the end, I just loved it. In some stories I love, love triangles. Some stories it drives me crazy. This one I really did enjoy the love triangle. Although I came to love one of the men she wanted to be with. Their was also one I really didnt want to love but he ended up being so sweet. You just had to love them both. This is a debut novel by ML Garcia. I think she did a fabulous job on this story. I would highly recommend this story.
