Description

"I wish fairytales were real," sighed little Lucy. And that was all it took for Hector and his band of merry friends to go in search of a real giant. There was a rumor that a new, enormous, shadowy stranger was living in the Forbidden Marsh beyond the forest . . . and since it was not a bear it must be a fairytale giant! With twists and turns and a capsized boat, the five friends venture far from home and make a surprising discovery — a huge discovery!

Hector Fox and the Giant Quest is the first in a series of books that follow the delightful adventures of Hector and his charming band of unique friends: Mo Marten, Charlie Chipmunk, Jeremiah Rabbit, and Lucy Skunk. Join the gang as they seek adventure, hunt giants, solve mysteries, and build friendships in modern-day tales reminiscent of the famed The Wind in the Willows.

This book is truly amazing and the illustrations are individual masterpieces. This is the second book written and illustrated by Astrid Sheckels. Children 3-8 will be delighted with this whimsical and charming tale.

Hector Fox has his friends over and is reading a fairytale to them. When he finished the story little Lucy Skunk verbalizes that she wishes all fairytales were true. Once her wish is cast it motivates the friends to go on a real, live, giant hunt....just like in the book. They mobilize their group and find themselves at the Forbidden Marsh hoping beyond hope a giant will found.

I love the fact that the animals speak English and are dressed in dapper Edwardian clothes. Even though they are all of a different species they love to be together, hang out and read. Their sense of adventure pulls the reader into the story and the depiction of the giant is not scary for young readers. The colour and detail of the illustrations makes you want to frame each one and hang them on your wall.

I am sure this is destined to be a classic as it has every element in it to make it so. I highly, highly recommend this book. Both kids and adults alike will pick it up again and again to enjoy and especially appreciate the creative and beautiful artwork.

'Hector Fox and the Giant Quest' by Astrid Sheckels is an adorable picture book. The story is cute and the art is lush and detailed.

When well-tailored Hector Fox gathers the nearby forest creatures to his house to read them a fairy tale, they all decide to go on a quest. It seems that there might be a giant living in the forest nearby. They find themselves getting a bit more adventure than they bargained for, but will they find the giant?

Beautiful pictures and an adorable story await within. The pictures draw you in and the animals, all decked out in fine clothes, are splendid. Perfect for toddlers who want a fun story about being adventurous.

I received a review copy of this picture book from Dover Publications, Premiere and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this wonderful picture book.

Hector the Fox and his friends go on a quest to find a giant from their fairytale book! Along the way, they make new friends and experience mishaps that bring them closer together. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful and I probably enjoyed them more than I liked the story. The animals are all dressed in vintage outfits and one of the little creatures keeps unconvincingly stating that he isn't scared.

This has to be one of the most endearingly illustrated books I’ve seen, The story concerns a group of five animal friends - Charlie Chipmunk, Hector Fox, Jeremiah Rabbit, Lucy Skunk, Mo Marten - all of them illustrated as humanoid characters, dressed in Edwardian style clothing. After hearing a fairy story about a giant, Lucy wishes the stories were true so the gang set off on an adventure to find a real fairy-tale giant. They have adventures along the way and meet other friends. The illustrations are really superb in supporting the text and enhancing the story. This is a fantastic book that children will re-read and look through again and again, a classic in the making!

This delightful book begins with Hector the fox reading a fairy tale to his friends. Soon after they begin a quest to see if fairy tales are real and if giants actually do exist.

The illustrations are finely detailed and a pleasure to look at. The story will capture the interest of young readers and let their imaginations soar as they too wonder if fairy tales are real. And as any child knows, there might actually be giants....

But don't worry--the ending isn't scary at all, and neither is the giant. The last few pages find the friends together wondering what they will read next. I'm sure your children will too.

The gorgeous illustrations in this children's book took me back to being a young child burrowing under the covers with a flashlight and a stack of picture books. Just looking at the pages is a feast, and each drawing is peaceful and fascinating with lots to look at. Exactly the kind of book that children will want to look at over and over again. Add in the story itself, which promotes a love of stories and the adventures they can take us on, and I am hooked. I can't wait to share it with all the little people in my life.

“And so it was decided that they would set out in search of a real fairy-tale giant.” – Astrid Sheckels

Hector Fox and the Giant Quest is a charming children’s book with a beautiful story about woodland animals in search of real fairy-tale giants. With magical illustrations and a charming story about friends determined to complete a quest, this book is an absolute treasure. The images are delightful, and the story is reminiscent of the Wind and the Willows series. With lessons of perseverance, the power of imagination, and the joy of friendship, this book hearkens back to a simpler time and is a wonderful read for children of all ages!

Lucy Skunk wishes that fairytales were real. So Hector Fox and his friends go off in search of the giant in the forest that they've heard rumors about. After all, that's like a fairytale, isn't it?

Dover Publications and Net Galley allowed me to read this book (thank you). It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for this picture book.

The illustrations in this story are rich and luscious. I wanted to pet the animals and go on the trip to the woods myself.

The trip is not without its scares. They find a huge shadow in the woods and think it might be the giant when it's just their friend, a big bear. He goes on their journey with them. They find a rowboat. It sinks. Soon they are stuck on the wrong side of the marsh. There's nothing to do but go to sleep and hope for the best in the morning.

The morning brings sun, a big campfire, and a stranger in their midst. They have found their giant...

This book's illustrations are what brings it to life. I'm going to purchase a copy to go in my personal library. I collect picture books and this one will fit there perfectly.

If only fairy tales were real! Such a wish begins this cute picture book as Hector and his friends set out in search of a giant. Detailed illustrations bring the five anthropomorphic animal characters to life as they pursue their quest and make a new friend. The text hints at just the right level of suspense for toddlers and preschoolers. This picture book may feel a touch formulaic to more experienced readers, but young children will enjoy it, particularly if they are part of a family that enjoys—and reads—fairy tales and fantasy regularly.
