Description
Find healing for your past and present relationships!
It’s true that hurt people hurt people. We’ve all been hurt by other people who were hurting, and in turn those wounds condition us to treat ourselves and others in hurtful ways.
But it doesn’t have to continue that way. Family therapist and seminary professor Dr. Sandra Wilson wants to help you identify emotional scars and heal from painful past experiences such as childhood abuse or family dysfunction so you can bring health to your adult relationships. She addresses the shame you may feel from your scars head-on, and reminds you of God’s loving care and His Spirit’s presence in your journey toward wholeness.
Discover that physical, verbal, sexual, and spiritual wounds can be healed and forgiven through God’s grace, and start making consistent choices toward flourishing relationships with God, others, and yourself.

This book is deep and puts a lot into perspective. I love the way Sandra breaks everything down and puts it into perspective. Great self help book.

I liked the idea of this book but it took it too far with religion. Like it can be a good book without bringing religion into it
Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complimentary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!

Solid exploration into the needed depth for Christians to do their part in the journey of sanctification. My only quibble is one or two parts need a slight expansion and/or updating; however, this is very small and should be a launching point for every pastoral counselor or Christian honing in on what parts are needed for the launching pad of mental health recovery.

An excellent book with wisdom derived from the author's experience and from words of Scripture.
Helps to identify hurts and sources as well as to progress toward healing in those areas!
DNF. I started this book but it was a little too much into God for my taste. I went into it with different expectations - first that it would be experiment, research-backed, and second, that it would be related to healing with spirituality and all. But, it was too much related to Christianity, which I think should have been mentioned in the description. Spirituality is different from religion, and though it is related to God and healing, spirituality takes different turns in Hindu spirituality, and also Buddhism. Hence I was unable to read farther than 10 pages. I think if it is related to a particular religion and Christianity, it should mention Christian-spirituality, religion etc in the description.

This book gave a very good way for collective learning and healing. An awareness of the “other” and dealing with shared and individual trauma leads to greater understanding. It was brave to talk about trauma and finding ways to heal with God’s help
In Hurt People Hurt People, Dr. Sandra D. Wilson has written a book about how we have all been hurt by people and we in turn will also hurt people. She shared one study about how over 70 precent of child abuse is done by children under the age of 18. There are reports of children 12 and under molesting other children. Most of these is probably due to them being abuse by someone before and continuing the cycle of abuse. She shared a story about a Detroit man who shot himself and his wife. He believed he had Lyme disease and there was no hope. The tests showed negative. This disease isn’t contagious and it isn’t fatal.
She begins the book by looking at the binding shame that we face and how this is tied with us believing we must be perfect. It can make us feel worthless. She opened up about how her father was a bigamist and embezzler. He tried to make her end her pregnancy either with an abortion or miscarriage. He even tried to kill her with a gun before the authorities arrested him. She remarried an alcoholic and he became her step dad. She experienced sexually abuse from a stranger, family friends, and a step-uncle. In the book, she looked at how to get help from our hurts such as from liars and thieves, childhood fantasies, childhood choices. There are tons of helpful charts to covey the messages and help you get healing. She approaches a Biblical stance on how God can help us to heal from our hurts.
I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is struggling with their past and hurts. I really liked how this God was very well written covering our shame and how hurting people hurt others. There is a special appendix showing how we can find our true identity in Christ. These include we are God’s child, we are forgiven, our chosen, can have peace, and much more.

I will update when I finished but I like this book so far! Good read so far.. hurt people hurt people is a good read for everyone who are hurt. 😔 I will finish this book after I have finished more arc books. Thanks so much for the opportunity to arc for this book!!
A good tool and guide for bringing healing, hope and understanding into relationships that have been strained by hurtful people. Really eye opening on how unintentionally hurtful people can be and some tools and knowledge that can help move relationships forward. I really liked how scripture was utilized in tandem with her teaching.

A great book on reflecting on hurt and pain from a Christian worldview.
The “Pause to Ponder and Pray” section is great with key points and a relevant prayer after each chapter.
It’s solid and straightforward. I’d recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
