Description

Livia Chadwick is a photographer by day and a self-proclaimed rock slut by night.

Her dating life is a lackluster parade of evasive jerks and

her boss is an unrelenting nightmare of a human being.

What else can a girl do but rent a beach house with her girlfriends

And blow off a little steam every weekend?

But hey, she’s from Jersey. Barhopping down the shore all season is sort of mandatory.

All is going according to plan… until she meets Jack.

Jack Tanner is a contractor-turned-musician in a small-town cover band

suddenly thrust into the limelight.

He’s already had enough of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, and groupies have never been his thing.

Then again… there’s a gorgeous brunette in the audience tonight, checking him out with the most incredible green eyes he’s ever seen.

She's looking for a fling.

He's looking for forever.

It’s gonna be one helluva summer.

Set in the summer of 1995, DOWN THE SHORE takes the reader on a tour through some of the Jersey shore’s hottest hot spots over one, sleepless, flannel-clad summer.

It’s a look back to a time when the music was groundbreaking, the rock clubs were king,

and bar bands ruled the world.

Other people who should walk away from this book immediately: Readers who have sticks up their butts about offensive language, those who don't like detailed sex scenes in their stories, idiots who think "Jersey Shore" has anything to do with actual New Jerseyans, and anyone who can't appreciate the mother-effing nineties.***

3.5- 4 stars.

This is the perfect day at the beach read. It takes place during the mid 90's in New Jersey during the summer. We have Livia who loves rock stars and loves to pretty much bang them once and move on. Until she meets Jack. He's in a local band that are in the process of making a name for themselves. She meets him at one of his gigs. They really hit it off. Jack is trying to show her he doesn't want to be just a fling for her. He proposes they have 10 dates before they even think about sleeping together. Livia hates that idea and pretty much ignores him for a while after that but Jack doesn't give up. He finally wears her down and they start dating. Music is very much a part of this book and there is even a playlist via a spotify link the author has provided the reader to listen to as you read.

I enjoyed this book. I liked Jack a lot. He was goofy, laidback and only had eyes for Livia. I had trouble connecting to Livia at times. Jack was in the process of making it fairly big in the music business and she just assumed he would ask her to go on tour with them. I didn't understand that. She was willing to leave everything behind at home for a guy she had only been with a short time. And with all her trust issues she had with guys, I didn't think it went with her character.

There is a huge misunderstanding towards the end that made me stabby. Anyone that knows me, knows I can't stand miscommunication in my books. It's just my personal preference. I know not all couples have great communication but this one could have saved lots of time with a simple conversation.

I liked the musical aspect in this book. I listened to the playlist while reading and I must say, I had forgotten a ton of great songs from the 90's. This has a great summer vibe to it. I thought it was perfect as it's currently warming up where I live and made me feel like I was on the beach with the characters.

5 Rock God Stars!

I absolutely love how Miss Torrest can take me back in time... not too far back but back to my teenage years or in this case my early 20's. I highlighted so many catch phrases in this one that were AWESOME for instance "I am more excited than Jessie Spano on a caffeine pill bender" insert song here, "I'm So Excited". This book is just wonderful!

Liv is a rocker chic. She is a tad bit on the loose side and her morals are a tad bit skewed but hey it's the 90's and if I could get any part of my body on a rock god I probably would do the same thing.

Enter Jack Tanner, as Right Said Fred says "He's to sexy for his clothes" and Liv's goal is to get him out of them immediately. But Jack has recently adopted Jermaine Stewarts philosophy of "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes of for a good time" so she gets shot down. But Jack has other plans and he plans on taking Liv with him for the ride.

Come along with Jack, Liv, friends and family and enjoy the summer of 1995. I was pregnant with my first son, born in August of 1995 so my summer wasn't nearly as fun as Liv's. This is a book that you just must experience for yourself. It has it all...humor, love, a little drama, heat and fun.

Another wonderful creation from T. Torrest.

Down the Shore is a spin-off of author T. Torrest's much loved Remember When trilogy, though I'm not a hundred percent sure if this is meant to be a standalone or the beginning of a series, especially since there are a few memorable supporting characters whose stories I wouldn't mind reading. This is the first T. Torrest book I've had the pleasure of reading and what a pleasure it was indeedy! Set in the mid-1990s, this is a book that any romance fan may appreciate, but if you happen to be a lover of '90s music or were about the same age as the characters, just like me, then this will be a difficult book for you to pass up.

Livia and Jack were a joy to get to know, as were their motley crew of misfits plus their respective families. There were moments that I found myself laughing at the antics these guys would find themselves in. Then there were times that I would get all nostalgic, remembering what it was like to be in twenty-one (Yes, I know. I just revealed my age. I'm pretty sure you guys don't really care.) in 1995 and how I was more like Jack, ready to find my happily-ever-after but told by friends to simply enjoy being young and free (like Livia). Change can come at any age and in Livia's case, she just needed the right incentive (i.e. Jack).

If you're looking for a wonderfully written and witty novel about taking chances and falling in love, I highly recommend this novel by T. Torrest. I have already added her other books to my to-be-read list, but while there's a loose connection to the author's previous work, this can be totally be read on its own, which I did in one sitting. This book's tagline states: "It's gonna be one helluva summer." Suffice it to say, Down the Shore is one helluva book and one you should read while listening to the songs mentioned in the story. Without a doubt, this is now on my list of favorites for 2015. Can you say "five-plus-star rating"? ^.^

I so enjoyed my trip to the nineties! Thanks to T. Torrest for a fun, flirty, sexy and fast easy read. When the subtitle says "Rock and Roll Romantic Comedy" and the setting is the Jersey Shore, that alone moved it up on my to be read pile. I had not read the Remember When series, but I will certainly pick those up as I am impressed by the author. This book is fast paced, and the dialogue is so crisp and witty it makes the time fly by. There were definite laugh out loud moments, but what I really appreciated was the richness of the characters, they were definitely fully dimensional and spoke with clear voices. If you like sexy musicians, feisty women and a fast satisfying romance, this one's for you.

Another new author to me and another pleasant surprise. T Torrest tells a wonderful story in Down The Shore which was both captivating and entertaining and re-awakened memories through it’s soundtrack to life in the 90s.

This book tells the story of Liv and her friends who head to the Jersey shore to enjoy the delights of summer. What she didn’t expect to find there was Jack Tanner. Jack is in a band and is immediately attracted to Liv. Liv is a groupie who doesn’t hesitate to get together with band members but Jack feels something immediately for Liv and won’t allow her to throw herself in his direction. Instead of offers her abstinence and a new experience of relationships and their ups and downs.

Their relationship progresses with each getting to know each other better and before long Jack realises that Liv is the girl for him, but does Liv feel the same way?

This was a fun read which had comical moments alongside the inevitable pull on your heartstrings. It was a well written and balanced story set alongside music of the 90s. I would recommend this as a great summer read although it would easily be enjoyed any time of the year.

I was insanely excited for this book. I love T. Torrest Remember series and I will read anything this woman writes! When I first started this book, I had the hugest smile on my face. I loved most everything about the first half. It was funny, sexy and fresh.

Livia is not looking for love. She’s looking for a good time. She’s a young carefree girl who loves music and tends to go after musicians. When she meets Jack, she knows she wants him, but he has other plans…

Liv and Jack have a bargain of sorts, an arrangement. They go on a certain amount of dates before they go all the way. Jack likes Liv. He actually wants to get to know her. He doesn’t want a one time fun thing and never see her again. This is new to Liv. She’s not sure what to think of Jack. He’s gorgeous, talented, everything she’s ever wanted in a man. But is he enough to change her mind about love? About dating a musician?

The sexual chemistry and tension in this book was off the charts high. And I love the writing, the spunk of the main character and the sexy/swoony-ness of the other. So why not 5 stars? Well, I did have some difficulty with the last 30%. That being said, it could have just been me. And it didn’t complete take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. If you’re looking for a fun read about friendship, music and love that takes place in seedy bars and sandy beaches this might just be the read for you. It was highly entertaining.

This book has been a long time in the making. I feel like I've been waiting to read this book forever. I read my first book by T. Torrest a little over a year ago. Since then, I've been following *ahem stalking* her on social media to find out when this book would be available. In the mean time I devoured the four books she'd published and as any good fan will tell you, it's the wait that kills you as publication day draws near.

Down the Shore was worth the long wait and everything I was hoping it to be. I loved meeting Livia and Jack and everyone else who made up their crew. Both Livia and Jack had strong personalities and were used to getting their way. It made for a very interesting courtship seeing them battle down their first instincts to jump into bed and instead get to know one another first. I, like Livia, hoped Jack would cave at the first temptation, but instead came to respect him as more than the talented, hot, gorgeous, rock star he was. Jack was a good man too.

This story is told from Livia's point of view and I absolutely loved being in her head. Livia is honest, sincere, and funny. She goes for what she wants and makes no excuses about it. However, she's also an amazing friend and someone who has principles to make sure her having fun doesn't hurt anyone else. I loved that about her. I completely understood her reticence at being in any relationship, especially one with a musician. She was just protecting herself from past lessons. I wish I could've gotten into Jack's head a little more, although I think that would've only made him more delicious some how. I was really impressed with him for the most part. He did do some boneheaded things, but then again, what guy doesn't? He was upfront for the most part about what he wanted from Livia and I really appreciated that.

Like all T. Torrest novels, this one was a page turner. I was hooked from the very first page. I loved how the book was set up. Each chapter had the location, time, and year on it. It was very easy to keep track of what was going on and while there wasn't a lot of jumping around, it really helped me create a mental image in my head about what was going on. Of course this book wasn't just about Livia and Jack. I loved their motley crew and being able to spend time with them. They were hilarious and yet supportive as well. I can't wait to read Shana's story and I sincerely hope to read more about Vix, Tess and Ronnie. Oh and I would absolutely love to read about Jack's brothers. Those hot Tanner boys! One of my favorite scenes in this book was a little cameo from Layla. Anyone whose read a book by T. Torrest will recognize who I'm talking about. I loved the way music was incorporated into the story. It was wonderful to relive a slice of my childhood and remember all the good times associated with those songs.

If I had to summarize this book in a couple of words I'd use nostalgic, hilarious, hot, funny, sexy, and sweet. I loved visiting the Jersey Shore in the 90s without ever leaving my home. I do wish I'd gotten to experience a single summer on the Shore growing up because it sounds like it was a blast. T. Torrest really delivered on the teasers on the promise she gave readers with the teasers she shared leading up to the release of this book. I can't wait to see how she out does herself next.

Wow! What a fantastic ride this book has been. As long as you remember, while reading, that you're in 1995, it's amazing. I understand Livia's penchant for rock stars. I mean really, look at Jack! I particularly loved those moments where he would get carried away with Livia and forget their "arrangement". Talk about sexy! I think the problem between Jack and Livia was communication and Sadie. Exes can really be mean and vindictive. He didn't really act like Sadie was a problem and that was his first mistake. Look at all that she cost him. Anyway, this was a great story from a very talented author. The friendships, family, music and love were totally worth the journey. I highly recommend reading this very sexy entertaining story from back when people were still using pagers.

The Remember When series by T Torrest is one of my favorite series and this book is loosely connected to those books. I would gladly read anything that T Torrest writes and devoured Down the Shore in one sitting.

Livia is a refreshing heroine – she loves ‘em and leaves ‘em and is not at all interested in settling down or committing to a serious relationship. She spends her summer nights going to local bars and listening to bands with her friends, having flings with hot musicians and partying on the weekends.

Just to be clear: If the band sucks…we don’t.

Jack is a local musician by night and contractor by day. He’s sexy and irresistible and is actually looking for a lasting relationship. Livia is wildly attracted to him and is somewhat confused by his attitude but agrees to play along with his way of doing things. What follows next is a light, funny, sexy, fast-paced book that is unexpected and filled with great banter and a nostalgic look back at the 90’s.

Livia has her reasons for not getting involved with musicians, which made her actions believable. She is a very likable heroine and I loved the the fact that she was the one looking for a one-night stand. Jack isn’t like most rock star characters, and I fell in love with him from the very beginning. The chemistry between these two is fantastic and the supporting characters are hilarious. There are tons of funny one-liners in this book and the author perfectly captured the feelings of nostalgia, friendship and falling in love.

The ending felt a little rushed for me but did not detract from my overall enjoyment of this book and my love for this author! Pick this one up when you are looking for a funny, warm, sexy and fast-paced rock-star book that’s packed with tons of pop-culture references and loads of nostalgia.

Livia is a groupie - she loves music and loves to show her appreciation for a good musical performance by having sex with musicians. Jack is a band but isn't looking for a groupie and when he meets Liv, he knows he wants something more. This book was laugh-out-loud funny, had great 90's references and had a fun group of supporting characters. I really enjoyed this story. There was a little drama but mostly, I found this book to be light-hearted and fun. This is the first book I have read by this author and can't wait to read more.

Readers longing for summer will find themselves drawn to this nostalgic read that is full of fun and flirtiness, along with numerous references to the '90s. With its outspoken heroine who loves to have fun and flits from man to man to the sexy yet sweet hero on the cusp of fame this is a read full of witty banter and sizzling interactions. It all makes for a good read from a new-to-me author.

Livia's a young girl who lives her life in a carefree way full of fun and friends. She's not into commitment but after seeing a hot new singer she might be changing her tune. Throughout the early stages of the story I was torn by my feelings for Livia. While I admired her strength and ability to tell it like it is, I also found her a bit abrasive and demanding. Her fears of commitment were due to past trust issues and I saw this permeating many aspects of her life and made for a rocky road to romance with Jack. I enjoyed her interactions with her friends that were believable and relatable and happy that her friend time was nicely balanced with her couple time.

Jack was a delicious hero who came from an ordinary background but was now heading for stardom. I loved that his impending fame hasn't changed him, in fact it has made him an even better person. From the start he's clearly more mature than Livia. He's tired of partying and meaningless relationships. He sees something in Livia that calls to him but it will be a difficult journey to get her to commit to what they could be together. Her attraction to him has her agreeing to their ten-date policy before going further which leads to palpable sexual tension but will deepen their relationship ultimately. Jack was the king of dirty talk which made their agreement even more fun to watch as the temptations increased. He's a drool-worthy guy who lit up every scene he was in!

The relationship was a sensual journey full of flirtiness but with a big hiccup towards the end that luckily was resolved quickly. This hiccup once again left me frustrated by Livia and her demanding nature but happy with the promise of where the conclusion takes us. With lead characters that are larger than life, particularly the heroine, I was happy that the secondary characters were just as engaging. Livia's friends especially intrigued me and hopefully the author will explore their lives further. This book was a bit draggy early on but the '90s references put a smile on my face and kept me turning the pages with remembrances of my own teen years. This time period was vividly depicted to further enhance the nostalgia and immerse readers even more and I applaud the author for these seamless inclusions. This was my first time reading Ms. Torrest but her breezy style will have me coming back for more.

I have a blogger friend who adores this author so I decided to take a chance on this book despite not knowing much about this book. I soon found myself to enjoying this book as T Torrest has a distinct style and a beautiful storyteller . Down to the Shores is set in the90’s and the author doesn’t disappoint. With the obvious reference to a bygone era, I was instantly take back to my childhood and was loving every moment of it .

From the moment I picked up this book I knew I was intrigued and I was quickly hooked the story of Livia and Jake. Livia Chadwick is a 90’s groupies to say the least. Spending her days a photographer and her free time at rock concerts show her love and appreciate for them , the only way a groupie can. Her life isn’t any special, this is the beauty of the book, Livia’s passion for music that drives this book as we spend a beautiful carefree summer with Livia and her friends.

Every summer they rent a house on the beach were they can escape from mundane lives and let their hair down and act like the young adults they are. However this summer is marked different when Livia meets Jake Turner a friend of friend who is exactly the guy who she goes for appreciation purposes, a rock star.

Jake is a humble contractor who garage band has taken off when a song of theirs thrust them into the limelight. He just wants to play his music and have fun, sick of the groupies ad everything else that comes with being a rockstar. So when he sees Livia, at his band’s gig one night , he immediately is attracted to her and hopes that Livia isn’t what seems. A groupie who is just looking for some fun as Jake wants something that seems foreign in a rock lifestyle, a girl that he can settle down with. And Livia is exactly what he doesn’t want and he is exactly the guy she goes for….

Told over one summer and more Down by the Shore is a story that embodies the 90’s in every single way and will give you the feels. I loved every moment of this book. It is the perfect blend of music and romance with a difference. I love Livia’s and Jake’s story as whilst the author had written what seemed cliché roles, they we far from what you would expect. Livia a girl who going through the motions not stopping to question and determined what she really wants and Jake the man who wants anything bar the rockstar lifestyle that he is expected to have because he is in the spotlight . These characters are what makes the book special. The fact that you can connect to them and this book is pretty realistic made me enjoyed this book a lot and that why I give it

4.5 couples

This review is for Down the Shore by T. Torrest.

I had a lot of fun reading this story, it took me back to the 90s (never thought I'd use those words in my lifetime).

Liv is a great character, being the daughter of a musician she doesn't put any trust in faithfulness and isn't big on commitments when it comes to relationships.

Jack is an unexpected surprise: yes he plays music and does it well, but his first love is building homes. And he is looking for the forever relationship instead of how many chicks he can bang.

The chemistry between Jack and Liv is great, and while she just wants to hook up, he wants to get to know her and I love the compromise they come up with.

It was great watching their relationship blossom, I really enjoyed this story. Kudos to T. Torrest!

I first discovered T. Torrest as one of my best book friends was like “OMGAWD you need to read Remember When… you have too!!!!” Then one of my best author friends was telling me same thing!! I was able to read all three books back to back to back and now T. Torrest has me as a fan for life!! She is just one of those authors that is automatic!! When I heard she was releasing Down the Shore, another love story set back in the day I was giddy with excitement! She has an amazing ability to throw me back to the good ole days and give me a phenomenal story with it! I love her writing style and devoured this book! I would highly recommend this one as it one of my favorites of the year so far!!
Livia loves the rock and roll and going back stage and meeting up with the musicians. Her specialty is properly thanking them for an amazing show! Love and leave em… she is not your normal groupie. She knows her place and doesn’t expect anything further. She was looking forward to an amazing summer on the Jersey Shore (not the Jersey Shore you watch on TV people!) with her friends when she a night out she meets Jack Turner. Sure he is your typical hot as sin musician but Jack is looking for something more. He’s been in a long term relationship and has never been the type of guy to have a one night stand. Livia and Jack hit it off but Jack convinces Livia to go on a date with him, ten dates to be exact before they decide to have sex or not.
When it looks like things are going all rosey and peachy Jack says those three little words Livia never expected to hear. Jack is crushed that she does not reciprocate with their band about ready to go on tour, he forces Livia hand, either she says it or he’s out, never to return. This was the most frustrated part for me! I wanted to slap both of them!!! Livia for not being able to say it back because it was oblivious she did love him! And Jack because you can’t back someone into a corner and expect things to go your way!
Days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months and neither will reach out to the other. They both receive word the other has moved on. With a mutual friend’s wedding coming up, they are forced to make amends with and come face to face with each other. Will that same amazing spark still be there? Has too much time passed for them? Have they both moved on to other relationships? This is a definite one click as you need to find out what happens!!! I’ll just leave you will this… so just sums it all up!

“We were both wrong. But maybe together, we can find a way to make it right.”
