Description
With her signature blend of magical and heartfelt storytelling, USA TODAY bestselling author Jennifer Moorman returns with The Charmed Library, a love letter to libraries, favorite childhood stories, and readers who have fallen for fictional heroes.
Like many other public libraries, the one in Blue Sky Valley, North Carolina, is a haven for readers. But it's also unlike any other. In this library, fictional characters step off the page into real life. Assistant librarian Stella Parker has no idea. Still reeling from her father's death and--more recently--a breakup, she hasn't noticed. All she knows is she's stuck in a job she's overqualified for and stumped about what to do with her life.
Everything changes when she burns her beloved journal.
Words matter to Stella. For as long as she can remember, she's seen them. Words appear--in varying colors and fonts--rising from surfaces, bouncing over objects, and even wiggling out of people. Words give her insight into emotions and untold stories. But the words change for Stella after she burns her journal. Suddenly they're demanding, urgent--and painful.
Then Stella stumbles upon strange characters in the library after hours. One is an oddly familiar World War II soldier who introduces himself as Jack--Jack Mathis, the main character from her favorite book. A fictional hero and Stella's first crush. Standing in front of her in the flesh.
Jack tells Stella about the magic hidden in the library. Skeptical, Stella rashly invites a villain to visit, and chaos ensues. As she discovers the importance of protecting the library's secret and gets to know the real Jack, words continue to appear. What are they trying to tell her?
Much too quickly, Stella is faced with the reality that all stories must end, and magic comes at a price. The characters who visit the library can only stay for fourteen days. And Jack's time is almost up.
A cozy, Hallmark-esque rom-com, The Charmed Library invites readers to escape to a world where words come alive and book boyfriends leap off the page.

Thanks for the advanced copy! This book was really good and is similar to a couple other books I have read but with a new twist. Good for readers who love the thought of bringing book characters to life and how cool it would be to hangout with them.

So many great things to love about this book. I have never read Jennifer Moorman before but I enjoyed this book a lot. I agree with other reviewers who said that romance developed too quickly however, there was a lot to love about this book as well!
I loved that the librarians were not portrayed stereotypically and that the main character stood up for the profession. Loved the different characters that appeared over the course of the book. Loved the main characters development over the course of the book. I would definitely recommend it and will buy it for the library.
I receive complimentary books from various sources, including NetGalley, authors, and others. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received any compensation.

Absolutely incredible and nothing like anything I have ever read before! Think night at the museum but if it was book characters! but like amped up with more romance! It was so refreshing not predictable and just kept you turning page after page! The characters were so well written the author completely outdid themselves. The flow the plot the building of the story was fantastic and the pace was absolutely perfect! 100% would recommend! -Kerin
The cover drew me in. A book about books, yes please. The atmospheric opening lines captivated me and had me wanting to know more about Stella It was nostalgic magical and beyond beautiful
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC.
Who doesn't love a book about books?
This book has such an interesting and unique magic system, I've never seen anything quite like it.
The guy does take a third of the book to finally show up, but who wouldn't want their book boyfriends come to life and courting them?
This is for all the lovers of words, books, libraries and book boyfriends.
This book is a hit! The romance gives Hallmark vibes and the magical system was perfectly written. The fan-favorite characters coming to life was truly the highlight but the entire book was pure perfection!

I am writing this due to the fact I could not finish the book its not because I didn't like it. I absolutely loved what I could read. I have an eye condition where 25% of my vision in my left eye is blocked by a blood vessel growing in the wrong spot. When I request for your book I did not realize it was not going to be in kindle form. With kindle I can zoom the font up super big and can read comfortably but the way your book was sent to me it made it hard. I am so sorry I was unable to finish the book. But I will definitely get it if it comes out on kindle/audible. With what I did read I absolutely loved it. You have done a really good job with this book. I am going to give you 5 stars now cause I know I'm going to love it when it comes out. Again I am so sorry for not being able to finish your book. And thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to receive your ARC.

Another magical book by Moorman. A library comes alive with all kinds of characters.
Stella, is a librarian assistant who has gone through a painful breakup and she is feeling stuck.
She has a unique ability which adds to her life and the library is the perfect place as it comes alive magically. Her gift adds to her life and hopefully let her move forward.
I discovered this author last year with my bookclub and am working my way through her books. I have enjoyed all that I have read and she is an auto-buy for me.

This was a outstanding tv movie like novel. I love the MCs and I was enchanted by the magic. Wouldn't it be great to see words scrolling out of everyday objects or appearing on peoples shirts helping you understand them? I love the romance of books and readers and our main characters. With a time clock hovering over them and a mystery to figure out/foes to vanquish, this was a charming novel.

Who wouldn't like to meet their favourite literary characters? I can think of a few!
Stella Parker works in a library because she loves it there and enjoys the company of the head librarian Arnie. But after a series of painful losses—the death of her father, a devastating breakup, and a complicated family past—Stella finds herself emotionally stuck, clinging to memories that no longer sustain her. Struggling to find a purpose she simply lives day to day. But one day, while the library is closed, she stumbles upon a group of unusual people in the archives section of the library.
I'm not really into fantasy stories but this one was so unique and unexpected that I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book.
This book set in Blue Sky Valley, North Carolina in a public library is so heartwarming! In this public library, the fictional characters come to life. As a public librarian, this book just made me happy. The story is charming and I loved every minute of reading it! Highly recommend!!!

The Charmed Library is a quirky love letter to libraries and readers everywhere. How many of us have ever wished that characters from our favorite fictional stories could be transported into the real world? Well, at the library in Blue Sky Valley, NC, they can. It's magic! But magic always comes with a price, and in this case, part of that price is that characters can only stay in the real world for two weeks before they return to their own stories. That's a problem for Stella Parker, assistant librarian, who learns about this magic at a turbulent time in her own life. Although she has her own magic, she sees floating words everywhere, she doesn't quite know how to handle these literary heroes and villains that now populate her beloved library especially when one of them is her dream guy come to life straight out of her favorite book.
This story is so fun to read. First, Stella is a hot mess, which I don't normally love in an MC, but she's also just endearing enough that I found myself cheering for her and wishing for her to have a happily ever after. Second, the literary characters that populate this story are great! The author made perfect choices of well-known characters from a wide variety of genres, and I think almost all of them will be known to most people whether they are lovers of literature or not. Finally, Jack, our love interest is perfect. No, I mean, he's perfect. That's maybe my only complaint here is that he doesn't seem to have any character flaws, well, except the whole thing where he's going to disappear soon, and, I suppose, that's a big one.
We have an abundance of small town charm, a magic library, a sweet romance, nods to classic literature, and random words literally popping up all over the place. What's not to love? I recommend this to anyone who has ever dreamed of their favorite book crush coming to life. There's hope for you yet, if only you can find your own charmed library.
Another beautiful story by Jennifer Moorman! The power of words and stories and books is the center of the magic that happens in the library where Stella works. I absolutely loved everything about this story. Jennifer’s gorgeous writing makes this book an absolute joy to read.
If you love libraries, books and words with a little magic sprinkled in then this is the book for you. Don’t question the why the magic happens…just enjoy it and savor this story!!!!!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Muse for the honor to read and review this amazing book!

I absolutely loved the Charmed Library. I loved Stella and entering her world where she was stuck - no relationship, working at the library. Then she found her words and she met characters from books. This really opened her eyes and she saw that there was so much more for her out there! Will she be able to stay with Jack? Read and see.
I adored this book.
This was quite the curious read... if a little bit more confusing than something I would normally pick up myself.
And while I am all for the idea of magic and real life blending together like they would in my ideal sort of fantasy... this felt off. Maybe it was the fact that I didn't seem to feel like the magic system was entirely developed... that it felt rather incomplete...it seems almost as if the magic system was shifting and adapting like some form of living, intelligent being... instead of forming a solid set of ideas that got more complex as the story developed...
Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic idea, and it would've made an amazing novel, but the execution here fell flat... While it does have that sort of whimsical, soft Hallmark-sort of vibe, there were a lot of instances where I felt like the whole moment, or that particular point in the plot... felt dead. There could've been so much more emotional depth, and so much more to make this stand out more... to make it more magical... but I had questions and desires that just were left hanging at the end of the book.
Overall, this is still quite a fantastical tale of embracing your challenges head-on and not to be discouraged by your fears or by your mind trying to tell you to give up. It is a little romance heavy, but that didn't bother me quite as much as the lack of the fully developed and thought-out magic system...and I will still be recommending The Charmed Library to anyone looking for something like this to read.

I loved this book and the way the words flowed from her. Who hasn’t wished to bring to life their favorite book characters to have a conversation with or fall in love with. This book was the epitome of magical escapism and it was perfect. A little romance, magic, and a library. Perfect.

This book was fricking amazing! It has this feel-good, cosy fantasy vibe and it's every book lovers dream come true. I feel in love with it from the first page and couldn't put it down. The characters was just perfection. I was about to plot a murder at the ending, but was saved in the last moment.
Cozy and sweet, THE CHARMED LIBRARY is sure to appeal to a wide variety of readers. In this magical book about books, Stella is a librarian dealing with a series of painful losses. The fantasy element is beautifully incorporated into the narrative -- and of course there is a charming love story. Heartwarming and fun, this is a light and enjoyable read.

Bewitching. Bewitching is the first word which springs to mind when thinking about this book. Jennifer Moorman again delivers a beautiful tale of magical realism.Stella Parker is reeling from her relationship breakup and is stuck. Stuck in her hurt. Stuck staying in her old childhood bedroom in her hometown. Stuck between staying safe in her work in the library or choosing a different path entirely.

Jennifer Moorman once again weaves magic in this stunning tale of love, the power of words and how to be true to yourself and follow your heart.
This book! I loved the library setting and all the magic…so endearing! I enjoyed Stella and Jack’s story, but loved the use of (and magic within) the words. Jennifer did an amazing job crafting this world…the imagery! I felt like I was there with a front row seat watching the story unfold real time. 5 magical stars!
A mystical, magical charming story of love, trust, and believing in the unbelievable! Jennifer Moorman is a heartfelt storyteller who spins a beautiful tale reminiscent of our favorite childhood fairy tales, literary classics, and book boyfriends as she weaves them into a real-life adult story featuring characters from books such as The Wizard of Oz and Pride & Prejudice.
In a Blue Sky, North Carolina, library we find ourselves enmeshed in the lives of Arnie, the head librarian, and Stella his second in command. Stella is reeling from a heartbreaking end to a relationship with a man she thought of as "Mr. Right" as well as the death of her father. Her deep depression has her barely participating in life, other than going to work and seeing her best friend Ariel. Words and writing have always been important in Stella's life, but everything drastically changes when she burns her journal in the library furnace! Now, the words that have always been a comfort to Stella come to life as purple words suddenly swirling around her. As she struggles to make sense of this new occurrence, Stella stumbles across a huge secret of Arnie's - there is truly magic all around her in the library!
Moorman masterfully draws the readers into the magic in this ode to the powers of books, reading, and libraries with swoon-worthy Mr. Darcy, nasty Captain Hook, and many other beloved and familiar characters. Minor characters stand out, all characters are memorable, the writing beautiful as well as quite clever, making the unbelievable quite believable!

Thank you to Net Galley and Harper Muse for the ARC.
This was such a treat to read. Most of us have dreamed at least once of what it would be like to meet your favourite fictional character, and this book portrays exactly how that would feel. Was it self indulgent? Absolutely, but I loved it anyway!
As someone who works in a library as well, I really appreciated how the profession was actually treated with respect and how Stella was adamant in sticking up for it!
The Charmed Library is an absolute delight—a love letter to books, libraries, and the readers who find themselves inside them. From the very first page, I was enchanted by Stella, a tender and relatable heroine who is grieving, searching, and stumbling her way toward rediscovering joy. The magic of this story sparkles in the most unexpected ways—floating words, beloved characters stepping off the page, and a library that feels like the coziest, most sacred place in the world.
This book reminded me why I fell in love with stories in the first place. It’s perfect for anyone who adores libraries, believes in everyday magic, or has ever secretly wished their favorite fictional hero might step into real life. I closed the last page feeling uplifted, enchanted, and ready to hug all my favorite books.

What a wonderful premise--that characters could be brought out of books for a limited time! But fictional characters only, not any who were actually real people...
There was always something mysterious and magical about Stella, about how she could see words form in the air. The library where she worked was an enchanted place for her. Then fictional characters started to appear in the library--Robinson Crusoe, Captain Hook (still a jerk), and Jack, who was a character she had adored in a book of her father's. Soon she and Jack began to grow close to each other, but he had to return to his book.
I loved this story with its original ideas. Now I must sit and think about who I would bring out of a book if I could choose one...

The Charmed Library is a magical and heartwarming story that feels like a love letter to books and libraries. Jennifer Moorman combines cozy fantasy with romance and emotion in a way that’s easy to get lost in.
The main character, Stella Parker, is an assistant librarian in a small town. She’s still grieving her father’s death and healing from a breakup. Stella has a special gift—she sees words floating around people and objects, revealing their emotions and hidden truths. But when she burns her journal, the words start acting strangely.
Everything changes when she meets Jack Mathis, a World War II soldier who just happens to be the main character from her favorite book. Yes, fictional characters can come to life in this library! Jack is charming, brave, and familiar in a way that touches Stella’s heart.
As Stella uncovers the library’s secret magic, she also learns how powerful stories can be and how crucial it is to protect them. The book is full of whimsy, warmth, and just the right touch of romance.
If you love cozy, magical reads with a hint of nostalgia and a lot of heart, this one is perfect for you.

What a charming magical story! I love Stella! Wow! Read the book to find out what happens to her in the library! What a great read!
Reviewer 1576523
Stella is working in a library. She loves stories and has been able to see words floating around her whole life. Her mother disappeared when she was a kid. Her father died recently. And her boyfriend broke up with her. She's stuck. Her best friend, brother, and the head librarian (father figure) can't seem to help her move on.
After she burns a journal stranger things start to happen. The story tells the story of Stella learning about her magical words and the magical library she works in as she finds her place and way forward.
Stella loves stories and helping people find the perfect book. This is a great book for anyway who believes in the magic of books, the power of a book finding it's way to the right person, or ever wondered about spending time with your favorite story friends.
Thank you Jennifer Moorman and NetGalley for the ARC. This is my honest review of the book.
