Description
Mya Holloway avoids commitment like Regina George avoids carbs–until she turns the dreaded thirty and her sister reminds her that she’s anything but flirty and thriving. Convinced she’ll have to settle if she wants to settle down, Mya decides to stick it out with her live-in boyfriend—that is, until their Valentine’s date gets ruined by a stranger.
Kace Levitt’s priority in life is security—it’s literally his job. So when he discovers that his long-time girlfriend has been cheating, the blow sends him spiraling. Add in a holiday focused solely on love, and his control slips enough to play a game of misery loves company.
When Kace’s sense of safety comes back into focus, his guilt convinces him there’s only one solution: offer his couch to the freshly homeless girl he feels responsible for. Will Mya’s chaos disrupt his rigid routine? Will Kace’s distrust discourage Mya from living an authentic life she’s convinced no one understands? Or will they learn that sometimes two is better than one?
Written by a millennial, for millennials, Unhitched is a spicy rom-com full of nostalgia of growing up in the 2000s.
A Note From the Publisher
Wassup peeps?!
I’m so hyped you picked up this book and can’t wait to take this trip down memory lane with you. Nostalgia ties us to a simpler era, and I, for one, am way too stressed all the damn time to not vacation there once in a while.
Mya and Kace might not have a strong grasp on relationships, but they do share a love for the 2000s. While touching on all too real depth that comes with turning thirty for many people, their story is jam packed full of memories to whisk millennials back to better days.
This book is for the person who has struggled with the dilemma of whether or not to settle for less because you feel like you’re running out of time and frustrated that adulting isn’t as black and white as the quiz you took in Seventeen with your feet kicked up as you lie on your zebra comforter.
It’s for the millennial who loves the ridiculousness of a 2000s rom-com–those who think TV shows and movies just don’t hit like they used to.
It’s for anyone who misses the days where you’d meet your friend at the mall or chat on AIM until your mom made you go to bed.
For the ones who wish we could go back to playing neighborhood Ghost in the Graveyard (safely) when the street lights came on in place of mindless midnight scrolling.
It’s for the millennials who miss the hours it took to make a perfect mixed CD, the ultimate love letter to someone, moreso because we were willing to risk a LimeWire virus on the family computer.
Most importantly, it's for anyone who wants to grow up without completely growing up.
If this is you, I hope you enjoy the blasts from the past. I hope a reference sends a jolt of joy through you at a memory you’d forgotten, and you relive moments the way you did when you picked up your disposable camera pictures after forgetting what you photographed. I hope you dust off your N64 or DVD collection and have an epic date night. I hope you message me to share a story that will always be a core memory for you. And if you’re still able, I hope you call your mom and thank her for giving you a childhood full of all the little things that we had no idea we’d miss so much.
Happy reading,
Tisa
P.S. Kace is pronounced like Case or Jace with a K.
Advance Praise
I refuse to ever shut up about Kace, Mya, or Unhitched. This is one I don’t think I’ll ever take criticism on. Arianna, Goodreads
Mya Holloway is the human equivalent of a glitter bomb in a world full of beige—hot pink, early 2000s references, craft supplies everywhere, and a heart the size of Texas. She’s loud, lovable, and refuses to tone herself down for anyone (as she shouldn’t). Honestly? Iconic. Nicole, Goodreads
The way that Tisa wrote out this love story gave me so much hope for the future and what to look forward to. will I still make all the millennial references? duh, because the limit does not exist. but this story definitely made me want to keep one foot in the present, too. Sarah, Goodreads
I CANNOT recommend this book enough. If you love all Millennial or Nostalgic things - if you want a little reminder that you can still live life like back in the simpler days at times - if you want to go through all the feels and not be able to put a book down - PICK THIS UP! You will have no regrets! It was such a reprieve from my usual genre and a huge push to change it up a little bit. Kenia, Goodreads
Honestly, this book was a love letter to all millennials who don't feel old enough to be in the 30s, but yet here we are, just trying to survive. Kat, Goodreads
Are comfort books a thing? If so I think I just found mine. And of course much like a 2000s rom-com, as soon as I finished the story, I couldn’t wait to start it all over again. Gracelyn, Goodreads
If you’re an older millennial like me, the Y2K vibes will hit you like a Lisa Frank sticker to the face. I was practically bathing in dial-up tones and butterfly clips, and I loved every second of it. Nicole, Goodreads
